We now have over 100 vaginismus patients who were treated with Botox injections and progressive dilation under anesthesia with a continued cure rate well in excess of 90%. This program is the only program in the US to have received FDA approval for the continued study of this approach.
More information can be found in my book "When Sex Seems Impossible. Stories of Vaginismus & How You Can Achieve Intimacy".
Many patients have gotten pregnant and delivered healthy children.
Kelsie who featured her journey in the YouTube "My Vagina Doesn't Work" is now more than one year post Botox injections and progressive dilation under anesthesia. She is cured!
She is courageous and has counseled many of my patients. She is responsible for the new Lamont 5 classification indicating to me that a level 4 did no go far enough.
She is also featured in the book "When Sex Seems Impossible: Stories of Vaginismus & How You Can Achieve Intimacy" available through my office or Amazon.com
FDA approval was received August 2010 to continue our studies using vaginal Botox injections and progressive dilation under anesthesia to treat vaginismus. The protocol, which is well established, includes 3 days of post procedure counseling and includes advice of how to transition from dilators to intercourse and also includes sex counseling to better understand one's sexuality. We continue to have a 90+% permanent cure rate. FDA approval is very important to make vaginismus more well known.
I'm not quite to this step yet (It will be 2 weeks since my procedure tomorrow) but have a much brighter light at the end of my tunnel thanks to Dr. Pacik and his wonderful and caring staff!!
At this point you are doing what you need to be doing with the dilators. Once you are comfortable with this it wil be much easier for you to progress to intercourse.
One of the new tricks we started teaching (Ellen's idea) is that because you are comfortable inserting the dilators you should take control in the woman on top position and "insert" the penis. To avoid the associated fear, simply think of it as a dilator. Remeber to start with minimal penetrration so it remains comfortable.
