I remember watching the original films back in the early 90's on cable. Before the movies were altered. I now own the original trilogy on DVD w/ the original theatrical versions on separate discs. Seeing the making of these epic films was very fun and informative. This interview is just plain awesome. Would be cool if it is included in the Blu-Rays of the original trilogy. Thank you for posting this!
@TRE1275 ...and u act like George WAS NOT on the set everyday that Irving was directing, from ideas from George? Well I agree..that TESB is the best of the films...IT IS still George's vision.
It's worth noting that it wasn't so much Lucas on set everyday as it was Gary Kurtz, the producer who was overseeing the film.. Lucas apparently disliked that Kurtz wasn't reigning Kershner in as he was slowing down production & running the film over budget because he insisted on doing multiple takes & giving the film a slower, more thoughtful feel. At one point Lucas even tried to cut the film with a faster pace, wanting Empire to have a quick, adventurous tone like A New Hope.
@UFOSPACE1999 Nope becaue when he first showed it to Copolla and Spielberg everyone liked it EXCEPT George Lucas who threw a hissy fit and went to the editing room and showed them a new cut..and principally got laughed at by everyone and ws then forced, to save his money, to show the original version made by Irvin keshner.
@Vertigo2903 I always thought that Empire Strikes Back was the best Star Wars film and that's tough to say because Return of the Jedi and A New Hope were so amazing. A New Hope to me was to Story-Driven and ROTJ is very much an Action-Driven films; Empire Strikes Back is driven by both Story and Action
Wouldn't it be great if George would come up with one story on how Star Wars was made and then stick with it. I'm a huge fan of SW and I have the highest of respect for George but his constant "revisionist history" take on the story is just too much to take sometimes. These 3 interview totally contradict what he is saying now (2010) about how the movies came into being and what the story was. Sorry George, great movies but I can't stomach your BS.
Ahh the Days back before Lenny Maltin had that awfull review show on CBS. This is on my 1995 copy of the Star Wars Triliogy. Very Cool upload. 5 stars.
A lot of fans hate his guts now but we wouldn't have Star Wars without him. Thanks Mr. Lucas.

Imagine Yoda with Kermit's voice instead of a Grover/Fozzie voice! That's pretty funny!

Empire was the best and Lucas didn't direct it. That says everything.
