Glen A. Larson said that he wanted Knight Rider to be like The Lone Ranger with a car in a sci-fi setting with the soul of a Western. You can see Larson's Lone Ranger inspiration in this scene. Both characters were shot in the face, both had their faces mended (or changed), and both Michael Long (Knight Rider) and John Francis Reed (Lone Ranger) were believed to be dead or considered dead.
That was actually David Hasselhoff, even thought you couldn't see his face because it was dark, but how did they make it look like he was shot in the face in this scene? Just wondering about that. :)
@saints093 You never even saw what he looked like after he got shot- just when he was bandaged before his new face was revealed. Wilton Knight said something about them never knowing what he looked like before they found him- but that does not make sense because he would have had a driver's license on him. Also- I think they had been watching him while he was doing his investigating as Michael Long because they knew he would be the right person to send after Tanya Walker for revenge.
Michael Knight, born Michael Arthur Long is the best TV-actionhero-figure ever created, along with the Knight Industries TwoTousand's microprocessor (K.I.T.T.).
Does anyone here remeber a vid about Knight Rider that is just about as old as this one. I think it was named Knight Of The Flying Phoenix and it had a song that related to the relationship between KITT and Michael???
GM & Pontiac could've capitalized more off KnightRider like they did with Smokey & the Bandit..If they could've just made a "KnightRider" edition TransAm with a digital dash in the 1983 to 1992 & made it an option in the other Firebird. Instead Pontiac hired David Hasslehoff to appear at certain car shows as well as awarded him and his then wife Catherine Hickland with his & her TransAm's both in black
They tried to, but there lawyers told them that people would try to do stupid stunts, as in the show. In the long term, it would have been dangerous and resulted in lawsuits.
The Foundation found Michael Long half-dead and they operated on him but Michael only agreed to the face op due to the wish of the Foundation's president who was dying.
There is no way that the guy who played Michael Long could have been Knight in the series. Too flaky. And, this was blatantly David H in this scene; the voice, the mouth, the big hair! hahaha!
@ajam27 Wilton graphed the face from his supposedly dead estranged son Garthe to Michael Long aka Michael Knight. Garthe appeared in season 2 of Knight Rider.
What I noticed in the first few episodes was bad guys referring to KITT as a Trans Am. But later on that was never said again as if there were no Trans Am's on the planet.
That was because Pontiac told the producers to quit referring the car as a "Trans Am". This was because people were going to the dealers asking for a Knight Rider Trans Am model. Car dealers were swamped!!!
Do you guys even know how the show began? The best I remember this is the very first episode of Knight Rider. Michael Long get shot in this scene (and thought to have been killed) somehow he gets recovered by the foundation for law and government. The change his identity to Micheal Knight, give him a load of plastic surgery to change his face. Micheal Long was given a death certificate. The car in this scene could have been a Trans Am.
Could've been a Trans Am it was a Trans Am. Leading up to this scene Tanya and Michael get into his Trans Am of the parking lot of the casino after his buddy was shot.
I remember watching this for the first time in 1988. It was billed as Knight Rider - The Movie. The pilot episode was quite dark and gritty, compared to the rest of the series.
@drlee2 Me, too. It had a script that balanced the humorous and serious stuff, lots of fast action and a concept that was original at the time. Glen Larson once again hit the jackpot.
I believe you can view the pilot on DVD. I know you can rent it. If you are a netflix member you can view it for free online. You can see Larry Anderson as Michael Long in the begining though a lot of it gets darker and darker towards the switch point. Also David Hassolhof voice was dubbed. Larry Anderson is not credited and said he didnt want it since his voice wasnt used. You can find his credits for other work at imdb
When Michael Long was shotted in hes face, he was actually dead, but FLAG (Foundation for Law And Gouverment) rescued him. They gave Michael an new face that looks like that from Garthe Knight, the son from Wilton Knight. He wasn't Michael Long anymore.. He was from now on: Michael Knight. They made from Michaels Trans Am the newest Knight Industries two-thousand (KITT). Wilton died and Michael became the newest Knight Rider and Devon Miles was hes boss.
After getting shot in the face, he was picked up by Knight Industries who gave him plastic surgery on his face (this is where David Hasselhoff comes in) and gave him KITT etc.

This show seems silly and outdated for today's standards- but it is much more interesting than the crap they have for ideas on TV shows now.

That car is definitely a Trans-Am or a Firebird. You can tell by the headlights. They were trying to keep it in the dark until KITT was revealed.

GM were idiots. They NEEDED to sell cars and they went the other way around. No wonder why they went bankrupt:
1. They care only about Chevys.
2. They screwed Pontiac.
3. Crapmaro sucks Trans Am kicks ass.
4. They wanted to avoid publicity.
Epic fail.
