@sneakypower my apologies i guess its just a little lagged then by the end and/or your using a rly good mic. which reminds me, what mic are you using?
ive been working on short acoustic versions of a handful of long phish tunes to throw in my live set......guyute, the divided sky (basically the white tape version is what we do), pebbles and marbles and tela. we do a full electric jam on dirt and a reggae-ish faster version of waste. cheers!
Of course it's intimidating...it's Guyute. The good news is, a year from now you'll probably have your version on You Tube and it'll probably be better than mine!!!! Let me know when its up.
Hey there I love your work! You guys are awesome and try to send your videos to all my Phish/Dead fan friends.
That being said I have one request. I know you like tackling the compositional technical songs so I propose to you to play It's Ice. A personal favorite of mine with a great groove, great lyrics, and awesome composed section.
Anyways I hope you guys got tickets to a couple Phish and Dead shows this coming Spring/Summer!
Thanks for the comment. It's Ice is a great song. I will give it a listen with guitar in hand and see if it's doable for me on the acoulstic. Believe me, it's a compliment in itself that you think we should attempt it. On another note, we should have a couple of new videos up in the next month...one Phish, one Bob Dylan.
hey man, i just found you on youtube. all i can say is wow. you cover all 3 of my favorite bands, and do it amazingly. Just started playing guitar myself (acoustic). I am 27 got a late start, but I cant put it down. You are great man... id comment on every video but i dont wanna seem like some crazy creeper stalker dude. Anyways, more Phish, GD, and Panic covers. where do i make requests, see ya. play on!
Ahhh...bit by the guitar bug. Good for you!!! Here's to a life of joy and the insatiable thirst for guitar knowledge. Request away! I'm always curious to know what people'd like to hear. Keep in touch.
Well...The first few seconds of that time period includes a few trills based off of a major scale. The remainder of that are the arpeggios of about 9 different chords--no scale to speak of.
Love it, man. I'm going to Phil & Friends/Allman Brothers on Tuesday. I'll be thinking about you guys. Glad to hear Phish will reunite for a few more shows, though I can't make it over to Hampton.
I kind of doubt it- but if you'd like to take up a collection for me, that'd be great. I'm kind of hoping for a west coast summer tour where I (or maybe Hugh and I) could get on the open road and catch 5 or 6. It's been 10 years since I've done anything like that! What part of the country do you live in?
Thanks. Rarely do I (or "we" in the case of HMG) make the effort to tune up to concert pitch. We just pick up our guitars, make sure we're in tune with each other and play. That was probably the case here.
omg amazing man....im a fan of all the good jam bands and i watched ur other videos man....all i have to say is completely amazing. ill subscribe... have you head of the disco biscuits?? u should do one of
I have the bass to play along on my home recordings. I love to play bass and jam with people but I'm not exceptional! What is it you want to hear on the bass?
You're killing me. Weekapaugh? Not likely (my slapping is awful) but I'll get crackin' and see what I can do. Why don't you post it and I'll learn it form you! Keep in touch,
ahhh ya hit that f instead of the d at about 8:50 after you nailed all the other sections including that sweeping part at about 4:20. nah im just kiddin, that was sick. best cover ive seen on here, especially for such a complex song.
damn...on an acoustic no less! i'm in the process of tackling this one myself, so thanks a bunch man! i'd say you're the 53% and the other guy is the 47% haha.
after this i've just about had it with the technical numbers...i was considering making a vid of stash or divided sky though. i know a little bit of reba, but probably nothing you don't already know.
I think this was the best of four. It's a really long song and I was messing up around 7 minutes. Eventually I just said, "Just let it go and take the best one you've got..." I could have been there all day!
WOw, I just got back from basic training because I joined the Natioal Guard so I was gone for 5 months. Before that I followed sneakypower and couldn't wait to here your latest entry. I am thoroughly impressed at all the new stuff. Great material for learning this one is. I do belive i requested it too a while ago thanks and it's good to be home!!!
Good to hear from you, old friend. I'm so glad you like our new postings (some of which are now old) and I hope the training was worthwhile. I also hope that you stay stateside!!! Please keep in touch.
I found the chords for Gyute on the internet. Thought I was pretty good whistling and stumming my little chords for my wife and phello phriends (skipping any picking or solos of course). Then I saw this. This takes it to a whole new level. Your fingers are amazing. I couldn't believe the fretwork! Seriously good! Keep it up! I now have a new goal to strive for.
that first sentence you said about finding the chords and playing for wife rings so true to me at this moment cuz i was just strumming away the chords and the begining fingerwork but as i watch our bro here I am reminded just how intricate and difficult it would be to actually get the whole thing down. lots of time it would take a non jedi to try and become one.some of these dudes are excellent and seem to be morphing into young-jedi.
"Genius" is such a relative term. I believe that people consider Trey to be a genius because of his talents in composition and guitar playing in comparison to their own. Would Trey consider himself a genius? Does he stand beside Bach, Stravinsky, Paganini, Rachmaninoff, Charlie Parker and John Coltrane? Devil's advocacy aside, I love the man!
You don't have to be a "fucking genious" to learn something like guyute or YEM by ear. You just need to know what your hearing and understand music. You have to be a fucking genious to WRITE something like guyute or YEM. Anyway. Solid job man. I should have some new vids up pretty soon you should check em out. David Bowie and Foam. And I found some mistakes in my Reba I think I'm going to redo it as well.
ok sorry for the triple post, but i used to drive a yellow 1980 volkswagen bus, which i'd named guyute. too long a story for here. over beers someday. p.s. thanks, again you drive me towards a nicer acoustic this much faster. do you work for martin?
speaking of trey, i must say that because you played this so meticulously to its form, trey's genius comes through. i was more mesmerized by the melody than by your fretboard work, though i'll go back and watch that eighty times. genius song, geniusly rendered.
