On June 22, 1969, an oil slick and debris in the Cuyahoga River caught fire in Cleveland, Ohio, drawing national attention to environmental problems in Ohio and elsewhere in the United States.
It is unclear what caused the fire, but most people believe sparks from a passing train ignited an oil slick in the Cuyahoga River. This was not the first time that the river had caught on fire. Fires occurred on the Cuyahoga River in 1868, 1883, 1887, 1912, 1922, 1936, 1941, 1948, and in 1952.
haha - i love that "the name of this band is REM" bit. gave me a chuckle - like it's 1981 and they are playing some small beerhall in raleigh. classic.
. . . if not one of the greatest. However, because of the band''s "all for one" philosophy, which I've otherwise always admired, he isn't recognized as such. I wish that he'd have begun a second career as a songwriter after his retirement. Bill, as a songwriter, was in a league with Jimmy Webb.
Has it really been over 20 years since we've all heard this beautiful song for the first time? Life's Rich Pageant really demonstrated this bands true musical talents. Most musically and lyrically, REM struck a nerve with many music lovers!
Dude, this is seriously the shit. VERY NICE JOB recording this. This is some excellent camera work done by someone who knew what they were doing (even though it's obviously done w/o a tripod). The sound is great, the zoom and focus are adjusted correctly, and you get all the best shots. 5 stars!
don't be thick!!!! obviously its kettle drums. bill berry was irreplaceable, a band is what the component parts bring to it and the hole he left has never been filled
Awesome version of a great old song. Im with you on missing Bill Berry but I think more in the song writing, when he left they had a big dropoff in consistency
This song is about a river that caught fire. I row it every summer~!

It was a great concert in front of the cathedral in Cologne, and 50.000 people...
Germanarchie 3 years ago
that is awesome.
I've been to the cathedral.
I just wanted to make sure that when he said Colne he meant Koeln but I feel sheepish now.
