  • 0:28 COLORADO FTW!

  • I have seen a paper about autism at my psychologist today. What is autism? I don't understand.

  • And when you're in school, you don't dare to answer the teacher's questions, even though you exactly know the answers, because you have sort of a mental blockade that hinders you from doing so, trying to get as little attention from others as possible? Or do the social troubles alone not characterize autistics?

  • Is there a possibility of having autism without having special memorizing skills etc. I mean, could it be that you have a minor form of autism just due to the fact that you get very uncomfortable the second you are in the presence of other people - no matter if you like these people or not -, and especially in a crowd of people, so you don't know how to express your emotions and show them with facial expressions and don't know how to act on other people's gestures?

  • "The Neanderthal Theory of Autism". Look it up!! Really REALLY interesting stuff.

  • DNA studies say that Neanderthals were intellectual, extremely curious creatures with mathematical ways of thinking. The studies also say that Neanderthals had poorly developed social skills. Amazing ideas, but inadequate ways of communicating them. Homo Sapiens are gifted socially, with a built in ability to work together(result of survival of the fittest no doubt). The two species meet, mate, and create a kind of perfect balance between the two species, resulting in the world we live in today.

  • girl at 1:50 is smoking hot

  • I'm a father of two sons with autism. Thanks so much Alex for sharing your story!

  • Holy shit this is funny

  • @CheezeTheSmall What's so funny about it?

  • 8:22 "it is not a bad thing or a good thing" So it's like being LGBT, it's a difference.

  • I have aspergers and I am not ashamed of it either.

  • Comment removed

  • I have aspergers syndrome, add me and watch my aspergers video.. Would like to know other aspires out there., sadly, I don't know any

  • I think people should not regret having autism/aspergers. Being different is a gift. People should like someone for what he/she is. Society is so mean, superficial, cruel.I'm not saying everone is like that, but most of them. Poeple with autism see the world in a different beautiful way and they should be proud for their individuallity.I'm sure most of them are.

  • lol assburger

  • @StormingSheep do not make fun of asbergers or any austism syndromes that just isn't right

  • @Kaolrurkr mmmm hot steamin assburgers

  • I just chose "transcribe audio" it gave transcriptions almost completely different of the audio and even changing the meaning of what is being said into something incoherent.. Why is this?

  • @tasneefm The "transcribe audio" feature uses computer-generated speech recognition technology, which is different from and not as accurate as the human-operated technology that provides pre-recorded captions for television programs. (I asked some time ago for the captions for this video to be improved by importing an accurate transcript of the video which another person already created. YouTube provides the ability to synchronize the written words with the spoken words in the video.)

  • i have asperger and in my opionion, asperger is a gift and also a curse,a gift because you see the world as it is,you see how society works, you see everything in patterns, and is a curse because it consumes you.

you(me in my case)get drained of your energy for every task that you do,you understand and get obssessed by science, cars, music etc but you stop at simple things such as talking with a stranger, get paranoic from small things and many more

but still i thank God for being like this

  • Ive seen a movie about temple grandin i think the actor portrayed her perfectly.

  • Wow! Too *many people* in the opening shot!

  • im doing a school report on autism and this helped a lot!! thanks (:

  • Film can give individuals hope

  • This was a good short piece. Bring me more of these!

  • Asperger's isn't autsim, it's higer fuctioning of social issues, Autism is a lower functioning of social issues.

  • @9SuperMonkeyBall0 Austism is known as a spectrum due to it being so different with each person, Aspergers comes under this spectrum, but it is a less "severe" part of the spectrum as people with aspergers often have average/high intelligance as well as more 'normal' communication skills :)

  • @CrazyDramaGirl1 o'h I see.

  • i have autism and sometimes it really bothers me that i cant talk with people and stuff and those classes i have rarely have girls and stuff and sometimes i feel like a vulcan from star trek which i think is good because theyre my favorite race from star trek XD autism can be good too though

  • what does it take to be diagnosed with autism?

  • autism is veri beutifil yet cmplex an yet has unpleasnt moments -processin an tryin tu liv in the world outsdes a challinge everydae made harder by traffik an ppl interactions yets produces great artism by giftin uy wth an bilities in drawing an makin thngs tht ar worth somthing i nt tu the normal world

  • tu me autism gifts me wth mi artism wch alowes me tu spreade mi truths out tu thos whm want tu lern an understnsd mi limitsd world

  • I could never go to that convention. I get really scared of crowds. You have a lot of courage Alex. The weird thing is I am reading the Bible in front of 90 people later today. I am relying on Jehovah to help me through it. I just hope I don't pass-out or become too nervous.

  • Great Documentary. I have Autism, I was diagnosed when I was 3 and this video is a video all should see.

  • I'd like to ask everyone who makes a video about autism to activate YouTube's automated transcription or to caption the video in other ways. Captions are useful for many people who are autistic as well as for the 15% of the population with hearing loss. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to understand this video due to the lack of captions. All videos can now be captioned through YouTube's automated transcription process, but it needs to be turned on by the accountholder.

  • @dmulvany You can activate YouTube's audio translation service on this video. I made sure it worked and I just tested it again.

  • @theWrongPlanet I actually prepared a proper subtitle file for this a while back which is far more comprehensible than the auto-captions - do you want me to send it to you again?

  • @theWrongPlanet Codeman38 offered to provide you a subtitle file he had developed for this video, which you can upload through YouTube to be synchronized automatically with your video. Can you work with him on this? (The automatic captions aren't good enough to make the video intelligible.)

  • @dmulvany I'm just continually astounded that anyone could ever think something like "partisan issue to continue nichols always from release of the year where charles the remain on for awhile" (actual quote from the auto-captions, folks!) is anywhere in the neighborhood of comprehensibility.

  • @codeman38 If there's any noise in the audio or if the person's speech isn't perfect, YouTube's automated speech recognition software can't work well. Sometimes the incorrect captions combined with lipreading can help me figure out what was said, but I gave up on watching this video because the audio and captions were too poor and I couldn't understand enough of it. Thanks for creating the subtitle file, codeman38; I hope that theWrongPlanet will take you up on your offer soon.

  • @dmulvany YouTube captions are always wrong

  • @dmulvany Are you autistic or hearing impaired?

  • @UniverseOffspring Autism can greatly affect people with hearing loss even if they don't have it themselves. I'm hard of hearing and have been trying to learn about autism spectrum disorder because it significantly affects the life of people I know.

The world does. They're responsible for a lot of the inventions people take for granted today, including the computer.

Smart people get smarter, while dumb people get dumber, especially when they use things that smart people invented. Let's see you invent a new Windows.

Thousands of viewers can see how you're acting right now. At least I won't regret my comments a few years later. :)

  • @TheDukeofMania How do you know who I am and what I'm going to do in the future? Who are you?

  • @IAmFromAfghanistan

Someone with a brain, and I'm a proud user of it.

  • this guy sucks ass.

  • Heavy metal poisoning due to mercury in vaccines.

  • oh i love her. i saw the movie. very interesting how minds of any kind work

  • The guy in this video has the exact same thoughts as me. :P

Tearing my energy with social situations...

And when society will see that we are not dumb, it will hopefully get better.

Dumb? Nah.. Diffrent. (Quoted: WhatYouOughtToKnow doing: 'Autism' video)

  • I started to educate myself, and I could finally merge all the pieces of the puzzle into a clear picture - I'm autistic! I'm still "in the closet", though, because most people have preconceived notions about what Aspergers really is. However, many persons with autism/aspergers aren't as lucky as I am; I'm pretty skilled at pretending to be normal (NT).

  • A couple of years ago, I was extremely ignorant. I thought that all autistic people were the same; I had a picture in my head of a mentally disabled child rocking back and forth, living in "another world", not being able to communicate at all. Then I found out that I myself had Aspergers...

  • you're pretty amazing :)!

  • i suffer from autisum, and i'm still finding it hard to change from JSA to DLA alowence since the British Goverment is crap here. noone gives a crap all i asked for is for help what do i get nothing just laughted at and told to go away and pushed to one side

  • People who call autistic, or any child with a "disorder", retards or anything like that are absolutely disgusting. You people have no hearts and should go die in a fucking ditch somewhere. Don't make comments I you have never been through or lived with something like that.

  • Saying Einstein was autistic is really just speculation

  • @N330AA really???

  • @englishscarface1993 Yes, he was never diagnosed. But i'm sure repeating it enough times will make it true.

  • @N330AA

    lol

  • 5:25 Absolutely true, I have autism yet I'm able to completely show my true colours online. I suffer badly in any given social situations, I left high school early because of the bullying along with the pressure of trying to fit in but never succeeding, which depressed for a long time :(

I'm always truly aware of what happens around me. Sometimes people underestimate me based on the way I act. I'm in my own world sometimes, but still aware of what's happening around me. Helpful vid :]

  • this video is so true, i i dont even have autism. btw that princaple is fucked up.

  • I still struggle with the concept that autism is not a disability. Alex talks about difficulties with executive functioning and difficulties with social interaction. If it's not a bad thing and it's not a disability, then why does it make little day-to-day things so difficult? Yes, understanding will help big time, I'm not underestimating that, but it's not going to take away the difficulties outright. I don't see "disability" as a negative term, but I am very wary of being over-optimistic.

  • Comment removed

  • nobody ask for the conditions that happens to themselves, all we got to do is provide them with much understanding and help

  • wow he is smart

  • I finally find the problem that I have, for 20 years I have been searching for why that I'm not like any other people in the society I live in. Thank You

  • 7% of people have a 1% chance of giving birth to RHO-, the exact same statistic for abductions, if having two brain stems is retarded then what the fuck are you ?.

There is a eugenics war against the last real Human beings on Earth and none of you saw it.

Aluminum dimention breaks because when the last one goes, so do all the colors fall.

To understand that you are takes more than a jail of the mind, you have only this time and it is this time that is yours, it is this time NOW, stand up.

  • Wait until after the credits--

  • Alex Plank said it best when he said that autism is neither good nor bad in and of itself. It just IS. I've kind of had suspicions along those lines, myself. Autism isn't exactly ideal, maybe, but it isn't evil, either. It isn't criminal.

  • @1958boomergirl I am almost 50 and there have always been kids that had difficulty communicating or staying on topic or focusing. But we never treated them different and they tried and discovered ways of teaching themselves how to be more focused and improve concentration or force themselves to engage with others. My cousin was painfully shy when he was young and would drive us nutz because he wouldn't engage BUT in the end he became successful in Marketing and is funny as hell now!

  • @chillichomper I don't think you should coddle anyone with a learning disability. Just be patient but DO NOT give them an excuse to hide from life. In the life is about surviving and doing the best you can with the cards you were dealt. If dealing with life means persevering while other make fun of you then find a way to be successful. There are too many excuses given these days to lower expectations for people and that is not doing anyone any good. Everyone has their autistic moments

  • @multisnootyundead I have 2 brothers with Autism and they don't go around posting crap like u do. Saying that Special Needs people need to die? Really? So in my eyes, their more normal than u r. I would really feel bad if your kids turn out to be Special Needs cause their going to have a piece of shit for a parent. The last time I checked, anyone could live on this planet. And if they let shit like u live here, y cant people with Special Needs live here? I'm sorry for being rude, But really? ass

  • It's nigh unto trek, Mother...vigesimal counting = counting by twenties = Lincoln: that vigesimal-counting schizoid! Keep hope alive! Man the buckets and swab the decks! Autism is mercury-poisoning [hydrargyrism n. poisoning with mercury; mercurialism], as prescribed by our pharmaceutical cartels as eugenics is population decimation as granted in granite on the Georgia Guide Stones.

  • What's the melody called in the background? Or the artists name because it sounds great!

  • Autism is a beautiful neurological disorder. I work at Autistic Services. Those who put people down who are MR, who have a LD, or have a ND...is very rude and inconsiderate. Everyone should be loved...everyone has a gift, everyone has their own way to express themselves. Learn from others, even if they communicate in a different type of language that you may not understand. Be patient. Love. Learn. Commute together to make peace in communities no matter who the person is.

  • @thefearofdark I like your overall message :) I wouldn't call any neurological disorder "beautiful" although I would call all people (neurological disorder or not) beautiful.

  • @thefearofdark Beautiful?! What the heck is wrong with you? There is NOTHING beautiful about autism. I work in a special ed department, with autistic kids. I work with one boy who is pretty brilliant in math, and really likes people. He has a great personality-but he can't talk. He just cannot express his thoughts into words. Now, does that sound "beautiful" to you?

  • @wilb6657 - I try not look at the negative- I know it's not all around beautiful- it's a gift and a curse...But nothing is wrong with me, i work in special ed also, and work in an organization for Autism... Instead of looking at what a child can't do- Try to find the good- and any of that good would be beautiful- I look at it that way- I know there are struggles, and can be a curse as one would say But you don't have to put me down. Thank you.

  • @thefearofdark Ya the same goes for any type of disability/disorder. People have a disturbingly negative view of those very words and that's where the problem is... they think we *are* the name of our condition... In autism, I especially hate seeing videos where the parents are interviewed about their child in the room with the child present, and they talk negatively about him/her as if the child was stupid. Just because the kid can't talk doesn't mean he can't hear you :-(

  • My bro has autism so does my sis

  • 7:46 thats horrible !

  • all I have to say on this is unless you have ever been a parent of a child who has Asperger or autism or know someone who has this condition then you need to shut up cause you do not know what you are talking about you are basing your opinion on a just a Video

  • @Ellement90 your'gonna burn in hell!!

  • @Ellement90 i truly hope youre not as coldhearted and ridiculously ignorant as your words suggest. if so, im sorry. hope you wake up and see the joy that youre missing. peace.

  • I met a couple of people with aspergers over the last years, i must say, that even though it's not their fault they're different, i just got tired of them. But it was because they were always talking about themselves in such egocentric ways "you know for me... it's like, in my opinion, i am smart, because I have Aspergers" etc and that is really tiring to bear over with over long times.

The guy in this video however (being autistic though) seems like a really great guy, in his opinions and all.

  • Thanks so much for this honest and realistic discussion on Autism. The subject is complex and riddled with false & unscientific assumptions. Autism is not on the increase, it has been around for millenia. It is the feverish attention given it now by media that inflates its pressence.

  • @auxo1s Lol, I dont think they have youtube in jail ,retard.

  • @Animefestify since when is beating retards to death illegal?

  • @auxo1s since when was being a cruel prick funny?

  • @auxo1s since when was being a cruel prick funny? Oh and you got your tense wrong.

  • @auxo1s go die in a hole, you fucking asshole.

  • @auxo1s Actually people who are mentally challenged seem to be a lot stronger than the average person. Besides, a 5 year old Justin Bieber fan like you wouldn't stand a chance.

  • @auxo1s your comment makes me want to beat you to death

  • sick fucking people

  • This Georgetown neighborhood is where 'The Exorcist' was filmed. The street sign says 3200 Prospect St, which is four blocks up the road from 3600 Prospect St where the house and stairs from 'The Exorcist' were filmed.

  • Why do people have to bring God into everything? He was talking about his brain functioning differently to others. His brain. There's no higher power creating people with messed up minds simply to teach those with 'normal' brains that everyone should be accepted. That premise is ridiculous. We just need to acknowledge that not all people can thrive in social situations and to not be so quick to judge. If you see the signs that someone is autistic, don't treat them like a child, but be fair.

  • This is wonderful and amazing. I have a friend who is a nurse. SHe is also an Epileptic. SHe is hard to get to know face to face, she avoids eye contact, and does not express herself very well. But online and in text she is clever, funny and so much fun. I know people that avoid her because they are not comfortable with her face to face persona. They are missing so much!!!

  • Thank you for this.

  • this video is both beautiful and inspiring Autism speaks and we have to learn to listen

  • This is amazing and inspiring. My little brother is 13 had has sever autism he can't speak or type he still wears dipers and even in our small town where we've lived for over 10 years people still lable him or pick on him they call him and myself cruel harsh names and words because poeple don't understand that yes he is different but he's bot bad he is actually the sweetest kindest person I know I hope that he doesn't understand the cruel things people say..

  • Alex, you a very respectable aspie.

I think autism is one of God's many ways of telling the world that we MUST accept each others differences.

  • @pidgeonexchange I agree with that 100%!!!!!!!!

  • God... Give me a seriouse documentary where its not maid as a movie, i dont care about his classmates. I want to learn about his "condition". Show me facts show me numbers. and show me different kinds of people who have autism.

  • I'd like to know what percent of mother's believe that their child was different from birth. My son was neuro-typical until 17 months. I'd also LOVE to see the topic of genetic-Autism VS Vaccine-induced Autism. I know that within the community of adults with ASD, they do not like to talk about treatments and "cures", however my son is a person who benefits drastically with special diet and therapies. I don't want to "cure" ppl with ASD, I want to make it easier for Braden.

  • do you know what is worse than autisme, autisme and adhd

    (wich i have)

  • @MrGameboy1989 I have Austim, ADHD and Tourettes!

  • im never having kids.

    fuck it

  • @ThatDifferentGuy If you don't mind me asking why are you so adamant about never having kids? I mean no disrespect, I'm only asking since you did post a rather vague comment.

  • @gamelvr1 sorry if i came off offensive. but i personally decided that with the way the world is now a days (pollution, autism, economic instability, easily accesibble drugs, porn and alcohol)

    its not safe anymore.

  • @ThatDifferentGuy Autism shouldn't be included in such a list though.

  • @gamelvr1 depends on the type of autism

  • @ThatDifferentGuy

dont you mean: fuck it not

  • @multisnootyundead Just remember Karmas a bitch. I just hope I will be there to see it when it catches up with you. Or better yet, Karma will let me take care of you.

  • This is a great video!!! Alex really hit the nail on the head when he stated that autism is neither good nor bad but different. Diversity is a great thing!!! I told my doctor this when I was diagnosed a month ago!

  • wow, this is an eye opener for a novice teacher like me. inclusiveness is all that a teacher needs to know--Like Jesus

  • @multisnootyundead YOU ARE THE WORST TYPE OF SCUM DO THE WORLD A FAVOR AND JUMP OFF A VERY HIGH BRIDGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @nabsta05 I'm just curious as to what part of this video offended you? I'm not in any way being judgemental, just wondering is all.

  • @nabsta05 dude honestly autistic and mental ppl dont make good parents, there have been kids of mentally ill parents who regret their child hood and all that, i dont completely agree with multisnootyundead as albert E. was one of the greatest minds of the 20th century

  • Don't feed the troll, they're just here to stir shit.

This short film was handled incredibly well by the filmmakers, kudos.

  • @snes101 Good Point

  • @multisnootyundead . Thanks a Bunch! May your "normal" balls roast in the fires and tongs of the great inferno. Of course, no threat intended.

  • My sister Joanne has Asperger's and I have Pervasive Developmental Disorder

  • I have a good mate who has Asperger's, very mild, but it's Asperger's.

He is a source of fun and laughter for everyone around and I thank God for him.

  • Autism is what happens when too many people in our society are being shot up with mercury in their vaccines...lol

  • @MONSQUEEKY I don't buy that. I have AS, and I didn't get those vaccines.

  • @waltherchemnitz Yeah I know. It's call a joke. thats why I wrote LOL at the end.

  • @MONSQUEEKY and, I didn't say I didn't see the joke... it's called "I'm making my statement here because I think it's important to make it here".

  • Thanks for the video Alex. I have two boys, 1 Aspie and 1 autism.. My family doesn't understand spectrum disorder. I'm going to share.

  • i have found out that since i am a christian Aspie i feel like i have not only jesus in my heart but also a system that i can use to help me with many things most of the time. i usually use it for tasks and also socializing. its working like a charm with socializing but i got to keep working on it since i mis-say some things and also stutter out of nervousness (since i was told that i talk to much)

  • Sounds very similar to social phobia, anxiety disorder or paranoia. It is scientifically proven that people who live in a socially depressed relationship with others, begin to think to themselves, think more than the average person usually has need for(cause their always happy like there's nothing wrong).I don't believe i have autism, but 75% of the people i meet have a difficulty communicating me.I get tremors in my neck and so on,but i'm used to it.I just don't talk to ppl who aren't worth talkn to

  • @DopeVinyl Everyone has their own way of living with it. I have never tried this one; how does it work for you? Do you actually like sounding like a numpty?

  • @Biofishable My dear fellow, If you want to act as a "gigantic douche-bag",then it is your right to do so...I suppose... I of course apologise for any misunderstanding and hope your resolve continues.

  • Mein lieber Freund Biofishable. I think our little sputnik DopeViny is thanking us for our support. See, being amiable has its rewards, does it not.

  • AUTISM DOES NOT EXIST humans are social animals and we want to be part of the group if a stupid doctor tells you that you have autism don't tell anyone because they don't know what it is and they will make a lot of eye contact with you. eye contact is very threatening isn't it? do you feel part of the group when people are looking at you? then stop telling people that you have autism it DOSE NOT EXIST

  • @jelopysloppy ha, our work is done then...

  • @jelopysloppy

    WHAT? that didn't make sense.

  • @krisnsteph I meant if you tell someone that you have a condition they will not trust you. You wont be treated like a normal person trust me i did a social experiment and the results i got were 2 guys on this boat would always be watching what i was doing the truth is people don't have a clue not even most doctors do about conditions. Try and make some new friends and leave the condition out. Just be yourself and let me know what results you get without telling someone you have autism.

  • @jelopysloppy For my son..the "label" helps him get the therapy he needs in order to learn how to interact with people. So he can have a normal social life, you know, have FRIENDS If we went back to not telling people about our Autism and pretending like it doesn't exist they would just stop learning about it and start throwing Autistics in homes and psych wards again. I understand your "point" but please understand that you are speaking for thost who in most cases cannot speak for themselves

  • @jelopysloppy If people automatically "don't trust" someone because they hear they have a condition which makes many incapable of deceit then those people are stupid.

  • @SusanStoHelit It's not that, it's that autistic people are extremely selfish and basically socially retarded. They may not mean to deceive people, but they do and they certainly damage other people.

  • Comment removed

  • @jelopysloppy Uh yeah it does because I have the High Functioning level. And where do you come off telling us 'it doesn't exist." Are you a doctor. How you live you obviously can't see how someone can have Autism. Autism is very real, and I know I had it because when I was a kid I couldn't look people in the eye until I was 17, I couldn't socialize when my peers and it wasn't because I was anti-social its because I just didn't click to want to talk to people. Now I can because I had help.

  • Einstein, van gogh, and mozart were not autistic. I'm not trying to be offensive or anything, it's just the truth.

  • @CoastHD Your right! we don't have to justify ourselves, its the truth.

  • Autistic 4 lyfe.
