  • IVE BEEN RAPEING THE REPLAY BUTTON

  • so beautiful...

  • My blog on the subject thehouseofbastet. wordpress. com /2011/09/23/ religion-in-america/

  • <3 Jay Brannan <3

  • This was so emotional...it set shocks down my spine and made me shiver.

  • @TheDebatingAggie I am a Christian too, I believe that Modern religion can only be stretched so far until faith gives way to lies.

  • I feel really bad for Jay Brennan, for all the family members that probably disowned him after hearing this song. Other than that this song is brilliant

  • After months I still come back to this song. <3

  • im a christian and i agree with almost everything in this song, its main point is to stop this retarded fighting and that modern religion is taken too far

  • Comment removed

  • @scorp45750 Expand the poster comments. :3

  • It is amazing and kind of scary how Jay Brannan was capable of putting all my thoughts about religion into this one song.

  • So damn good.

  • I don't mean any disrespect, but this song clearly talks about not fighting over religion yet people are fighting over the exact meaning of the words of the song. Isn't that a little ironic?

  • @Jax197 Hehe good point. :D

  • WoW! He just said everything I wish I could tell my religious freak of a mother, what i cry at church for because i hate being in that place, what I've come to realize after being raised in such a hypocritical building i use to call my church

  • I agree with Jay Brannan. It is ridiculous bout some things people believe in, no offense to anyone, its just my opinion.

  • I've always thought the same thing as he has

  • This song makes me cream my panties, great message!

  • very beautiful. i love this.

  • @mydogateitfilms i believe he's talking about religion in general

  • Its so poignant

  • this song is amazing. i love his voice.

  • Damned pretty song!

  • I LOVE THIS SONG AND JAY BRANNAN.

i think this song makes sense because peoples beliefs are strange. no offense to ANYONE. its just an opinion.

  • Zeus was afraid of his girlfriend so he swallowed her in bed ? i dont get that part

  • It's the story of the birth of Athena. The girlfriend in question is the titan Metis.

  • thanks

  • @Mb3th4321 it has to do with the birth of Athena. her mother was Metis and there are two main different stories revolving around her birth. The first being that Metis was mortal who Zeus cheated on Hera with. Hera then convinced Metis to make Zeus let her see him in all his glory, since he promised he could never refuse her, which ended up incinerating her and so he swallowed her fetus which was Athena who later burst out of his head.

  • yeah thanks but i still dnt fully understand but its probbaly cause im blonde,,, lol but all i can say is i love jay brannen! :)

  • The first verse is about how Jerusalem is supposed to be a holy City but its ruined,

the second is the worship everyone puts in items

the third is the corus where he points out the ridiculousness of the testiment and we should lay our firearms down and stop hating eachother,

the fourth kind explains itself that its all bullshit and we need to learn to save ourselves instead of leaning on a god everyone fights over.

  • i dont want to know people just smile and move on

  • @wingz1206 you are wrong about the firearms thing.

Hes talking about not being ignorant anymore.

"rip your bigot roots up from the earth and salt the goddamned ground."

It has nothing to do with weapons.

Hes talking about how we need to stop the cycle of bogotry and hate by 'ripping our bigot roots up from the earth.'

  • @RachelG1995 You are talking about the chorus not the verse.... "No one will lay down their life or start a war for it

So throw your stones and pray"

  • @wingz1206 You don't make sense.

  • @wingz1206 You don't make sense. he isn't talking about firearms at all.

  • @RachelG1995 Hahaha I don't make any sense.... thats why my comment has 15 likes.... erm let me simplify this more for your naive mind. he said...

"No one will lay down their life or start a war for it

So throw your stones and pray"

if you make it a literal then he says no one should fight a war over a religion so throw down you stones/weapons.firearms and pray instead.... and btw when he say throw your goddamned arms down he means weapons... hences the saying to take up arms

  • @wingz1206 No, you are wrong. Throwing rocks is something that some religions do when they pray, or they use rocks in the praying ceremony, sometimes shells. Although this is mostly in African culture.

    And you didn't finish,

"So throw your stones and pray, you'll be rewarded someday, I hope it all goes your way, But something tells me,

No one's coming to save you,

No one's coming to save you

No one's coming to save you

Save yourselves, from turning earth into hell.

  • @wingz1206 And that isn't making it literal. You are taking it and making it into a metaphor, it is what it says.

  • @wingz1206 He says "mary and mahommad are screaming through the clouds,

For you to lay your goddamned arms down, rip your bigot roots up from the earth, and salt the goddamned ground.

He isn't talking about firearms. He's literally saying, " Mary and Mahommad (holy beings) don't want you to be a bigot so you should Lay your arms down,

and rip the roots of bigotry up from the earth.

Because the roots of bigotry are deep, it is obviously not a new thing.

  • @wingz1206 He isn't talking about guns, whatso ever.

All that he is saying is, that IF there is a God, she wouldn't be hateful. And how it is silly to say that the bible teaches hate.

'No one would lay down their life, or start a war for it"

is referencing the Greek Mythology he mentioned.

  • @wingz1206 Don't call me naive. Please. Because you are wrong. I'm not saying you are stupid, but your logic on the meaning of this song does not make sense. Some songs have many meanings, but this is the only way this song can be interpreted correctly.

  • @Mb3th4321 The second was that Metis was a titan and Gaea (the mother of all aka mother earth) said if Metis bore a son he would overthrow Zeus like he overthrew Cronus. So then he started to lay with Metis but instead he opened his mouth wide and swallowed her whole and after a long time his head began to ache and so he asked Hephaestus to split open his head.

  • @Mb3th4321 He did and that was how Athena, the goddess of wisdom(b/c Metis was extremely smart and because she was born from the brain) was born fully grown and in her armor! P.S I love Jay Brannan!! He is soo fucking awesome!!

  • This song has so much emotion. Just listen the words and their meanings.
