@sclausi30 Your are right, if Earth's translation velocity was slow. But it isn't, at least it is enough to stay away from the Sun. Using your analogy of a rubber sheet, given a right velocity to the small ball and it will stay in its orbit.
BTW, were do you saw that the Earth is moving away from the Sun?
