created by Nazi's for the Nazi's. LEt's not forget where this all started 1942 and why. We are not stupid, we will never give in, it will inevitably end in war
EU has ben nothing but crap for my country which is the reason for people to get more and more against our membership. I hope we will leave EU as soon as possible.
Yeah right, like it's that easy... the politicians in Sweden doesnt work for the Swedish people, they are working for the EU which is very clear. They've sold out Sweden to that undemocratic project called EU. I hope us, the people, will take the power back and get the hell out of that shitty union. It's not worth it as we lose more than we gain from it.
@Jasminewynja your politicians are elected by you. elect a party that has a "lets leave the EU" policy. Cant be that hard if so many of your people believe what you believe [IF you are in the majority]. And yes, it is that easy. As for the EU being "undemocratic", well, if you want it to be totally democratic, i hope you are then in favour of a Federal European government because that is what you will be creating by electing all the politicians.
Ehh... you know Holland? Do you know how the Dutch people voted last ellection? It was against EU. Now, did the Dutch politicians respect the voice of the people? Nope. The Lissabon treaty as another example. The people in Sweden was agaisnt it. Our politicians knew it and denied us, the poeple, to vote about it. And our politicians voted yes agaisnt our will. In other words, EU gave us less democracy in Sweden. I am pro-democracy and there fore against EU
@Jasminewynja So lets take your comment one step further. Who's fault is it .. the EU's or the national politicians? Based on your argument, the fault [if there is any] rests with the national politicians. So why are you blaming the EU for the "shortcomings" of your own politicians?
The national politicians at first because they sold out our democracy. But they are a part of EU. They are representing EU more than they are representing the voters. They work for EU more than they are working for Sweden. So why am I blaming EU? I thought it was obvious since we are a member of it. But do not do the mistake and think that I'm not blaming "our" politicians because i am. I am blaming them for siding with EU instead of the people
@Jasminewynja okay. so what you are really trying to say is that the fault lies not with the EU itself but with the national politicians who, in your view, are focusing more on the EU than on the national interests. The EU is nothing more than the umbrella body for the 27 member states. Any decisions made by the EU requires the member states' approval.
The reality is that a decision which is good for our southern members as France, Italy, Spain etc. regarding agricultural politics for example are often bad for us living here up in the north. Like the last decision about what seeds EU will allow. Seeds that grow and are great to use France will hardly survive here in Sweden. The Swedish votes mean nothing there as we're just 9 mil people, 1 land, and we cant compete in an ellection against France (just an example).
@Jasminewynja Sweden can block ANY EU legislation it does not agree with. EU legislations require the approval of the member states. You seem to either ignore or not know this. :(
The democratic problems begun when we became a member of the EU. Suddenly all our politician parties agreed to have a common base for how to think about EU. They got rid of basicly all the politicians who was critical regarding EU. So it does not matter if we vote left or right, they will all say the same lies that EU is the salvation. So no, there is no such thing you are talking about.
@Jasminewynja Really? So you had the ideal political system prior to joining the EU? Wow!! Amazed actually. As I said in my previous posts, your country is a democratic one. IF the veiws you express are those of the majority of Swedes, then it wont be too hard to elect a anti-EU party into power, with a majority of the seats, and leave the EU. But somehow, I believe your views are actually a minority view.
You're simplifying the democratic process and are talking about it from a quite naive perspective. If party X, party Y and party Z says the same thing when it comes to EU you have nothing to vote about as it wont mean a single change regardless how you vote. We never had that before we entered the membership of EU. That is a result of our membership.
@Jasminewynja No, i am not talking about it from a "quite naive perspective". I am simply outlining the situation to you. If you have Parties X, Y and Z who are pro-EU and, as you seem to believe that the majority of Swedes are anti-EU, one would expect the "popular" anti-EU support in your country to lead to the creation of Party W which would then win a majority of seats and thus lead Sweden out of the EU. But this has not happened. Thus the conclusion your views are a minority view.
A lot of our taxmoney is going to EU and it's used as propaganda and lobbying for EU. No taxmoney goes to any of the voices who are critical regarding the EU membership. Which voice do you think is most loud? The one sponsored by EU and multinational companies or the voice of those who has nothing but internet to reach out? Thats why i meant the perspective is quite naive because you are talking as if democracy were simple
@Jasminewynja No, democracy is not simple, nor have i ever claimed that. However democracy is probably the best system around allowing people like you and me to voice our views. Every country in the EU has pro and anti EU media with which you and I can voice our views. And those media outlets do a good job of promoting their views. As for the other matter re "propaganda", its a matter of perspective. The funding is there to show you how your money is being spent. Or dont you want to know that?
Any new party, like Sweden Democrats (SD), that want to leave the EU will get bashed in the news papers, from our government in the TV. Only small independent papers will have a different perspective. Small independent papers who can't compete with the big established papers. SD are pictured as a Nazi party by our EU friendly journalists, government etc. So no. my views are no minority.
@Jasminewynja The SD when it was founded in the late 1980s included Nazis and extreme right wingers in it. So what do you expect? To call them Socialists or Moderates? True, they have got rid of them now, but you can not deny they included some very unsavoury members. They also oppose rights for the Sami, refugees etc. So no, your views are not the majority of the Swedes and nor are the SD party either.
Hehe, we can debate this back and forth and claim to know what the people of Sweden want. The fact is that neither you or I really know. We can however listen to the "hints". We voted no to the Euro. The people were clearly against the Lisabon treaty. We've never been allowed to vote again since the day we voted no to the Euro. We have a massive propaganda for EU financed withour taxmoney. There are no taxmoney going to propganada against EU
@Jasminewynja hahaha yeah we could :) ... what you are raising are not EU matters but national issues. If you wish to call promoting the EU as propaganda, then so be it. I am glad though that you also said "going to propaganda against EU". Hate it when people dont call anti-EU stuff "propaganda" lol. Personally, I think the Lisbon Treaty was a mistake as it is a complex document. The constitution was a better option. But thats life. We'll talk again soon if you wish [real life is calling lol]
Ohh, i agree with you since it's mostly propagande regardless if it's for or against, and i believe in being consequent :)
Just to clarify one thing. I will simplify this, maybe too much. You're living with your parnets. They sell your house to a corporation called XYZ. After they sold your house you can see how much more expensive it became to live there, you can see how little money XYZ invest in repairing the house ETC. Wouldnt you blame both your parents and XYZ?
@Jasminewynja parents. they made the decision not XYZ. So using this , its your politicians that are to be blamed and thus the people who elected them in the first place, and not the EU which has no say on how you run the political system in your country.
@EuropeanUnionRules Or to use another analogy. You see a second hand car and you like it. you buy it. Its got faults. Who do you blame. Yourself for not enquiring more about its "quality" or the car yard which had a sticker on the window outlining the condition of the vehicle which you didnt bother reading?
I agree. But what i meant was this. I blame our politicians for selling out our deomcracy in Sweden. I canät blame EU for that. But i am blaming EU for the decision it makes which are bad for Sweden. But it's our Swedish politicians who are "bought" by EU i really blame.
Why do you think we voted NO to the Euro? Our politicians were sure we would vote yes to the Euro. Why do you think our politicians never let us vote again regarding any EU decision? Why werent we allowed to vote about the Lissabon treaty? Why arent we allowed to vote about our membership in EU? Why did our politicians sneak in the EU membership in our constitution without asking the people which mean we cant leave EU the day we vote for it? Democracy? Bullshit!
@Jasminewynja The people voted No to the euro and do you have the euro? No! Since when do people have a say in treaties? Did you vote for the treaty founding the UN? Or the WHO? or the WTO? or any other body? No. As for the membership matter - you vote on that by the party you elect into the Swedish parliament. You seem to have an axe to grind and blame everyone other than the shortcomings of your own political system and those of the views of the majority of the Swedish people.
You cant compare EU with either the WHO, WTO or UN. You asks since when do people have a say in treaties. Well. other nations in Europe did let their people vote about it. And the people who were allowed to vote were mostly against it. Blaming everyone? Are you kidding or misunderstanding me? I am only blaming our Swedish politicians and the EU parliament for the situation we have in Sweden today.
@Jasminewynja Actually thats not correct. Four countries voted. Spain voted yes, then you had the two No votes and then it was followed by another Yes vote. But due to the fact that the Constitution required a unanimous support from all member states, there was no point proceeding with the voting as it had already failed. And am glad you are only blaming your Swedish politicians and the EU parliament, and not the whole of the EU as such. [note: both elected by the people lol]
I don't think EU can be democratic for a small nation like Sweden with only 9000000 people. Why? Because our voice wont mean a thing when voting together with nations like Germany, UK, France etc who has great populations. I dont care if EU will go federal or not. I dont want to be a part of that extremely expensive idiotic project. I want Sweden out of EU permanently. It has been nothing but a disaster for our democracy.
@Jasminewynja The ONLY way the EU can be a truly 100% democratic body is to elect all the politicians - European Commission, Europarl and the Council of Ministers. But to do that, you are then creating a transnational government [aka federation]. As for how to make it fair to all member states, you'll need a two-chamber parliament. But us Swedes can tell the differense between before the EU and after the EU membership. You can't. And yes, i dont care about what EU will become as long as we leave it. Regarding a big anti EU party, please read what i wrote about SD as one example.

Another good thing about the union is that it has a massive consumer base - 350 million potential customers compared to only 60 million here in the UK. Outside the EU would mean it would be much harder to sell to the other 300 million people and businesses profits would suffer. Joining the euro would make it even easier for British businesses to buy and sell from the mainland, increase profits massively, allow more jobs to be created and pay to rise, and our standard or living to go right up.
