  • i wish gwen sang more in this song

  • check that place out! what a wonderful song for a wonderful band.

  • @tillyandthepoo That's Fender's Ballroom in Long Beach, California. That place and The Marina Palace were the places to be in the 70's and 80's. I was there that night a LONG time ago.

  • they were just starting by that time :O

  • I love his faux British accent!

  • Y'ALL BETTER SKANK!

  • there was like 80 people on that stage. i wuld have loved to have been up there with them but i was a tiny infant!

  • ha! i was at this show! thanks for posting the video!

  • No doubt were great, but Madness cannot be covered well, by anyone...

  • Awful cover.

  • you dnt know shit! nodoubt did a bad ass cover =)

  • true true

  • utter madness.

  • who wore the baggy pants?

  • Why John? Why?

    Hopefully you rest in peace.

John R.I.P. Hopefully you feel good now.:,/

  • Oh my god.... Rest in fucking peace..... *tears up* Such rare and amazing footage.

    Xxx

  • R.I.P JOHN SPENCE....

  • WOW, footage with john spence! he really does have stage presence and nows how to work the crowd. The audience are manic!

It's ashame tho that he killed himself...he had alot going for him and was so young and talented. He must of had alot probelms to deal with...

I think no doubt would have evolved into a very different band if he was still in it tho.

    RIP john

  • @angiespangie you really think he killed himself???? i saw on here on youtube about hollywood blood sacrifices....hummm

  • This is an amazing vid!

  • BAGGY TROUSERS DIRTY SHIRT!!!

  • Great vid. This is why youtube is such a great thing...rare stuff that would never have seen the light of day.

No Doubt singing about chaotic London schools in the 70's seems odd to me. But fair play to them, they do love their Madness. I've read Gwen cried for a week when she heard Suggsy was married ;)

  • now this is kick ass to see john spence up there the original lead singer of nodoubt rest in peace john spence

  • I wish I was born in the early 70's....

  • man this is the no doubt i remember. i saw them at fenders ball room many moons ago before John Spence commited suicide. rest in peace John Spence.

  • Holy shit, that's amazing! Cool Madness tune, I didn't know that much video with John & ND even existed.

  • wwoww

    soo cool!!

    ^^^^

    LOVE IT!

  • Skins ruled the scene back in the day when it came to SKA gigs......Long live the memories..

  • British Ska was pretty big here in San Diego and especially in LA. I was a "RUDY" from jr. high through high school (80-86). Anybody that was into 2 Tone followed the Specials, Bad Manners, Madness, the Selecter, the English Beat, the Bodysnatchers, etc. who all hailed from England. Local bands like Fishbone and the Untouchables were also popular (pre-No Doubt). LONG LIVE SKA.

  • damn i wish i alive and over in Southern Cali in the 80's

  • They were big in the US in the early 80s. Our House and to a lesser degree It Must Be Love were hit singles in the US. No Doubt was on the leading edge of the ska revival in the late 80s early 90s. Mainly because Gwens brother was into Madness.

  • what are you guys talking about.2 tone had a huge following in america.

  • madness was the influence that started no doubt, love madness anyway, but more now because of it.

  • Eric skooled ya!

  • only no doubt (eric and gwen) really knew about ska, before madness gained popularity in america. they rule.

  • madness is popular in america?

  • they love madness!

  • Gwen looks soooooo Belinda Carlysle! LOLOL

Her brother was in the band too.

Just think: it will be another 9 years before they hit it big! Wow...

  • Fucking Beautiful! some ND fans weren't even born yet! HA!

  • Haha!! I was born in the year they played this!!!!

  • lol i wasnt born!!! but i am a huge fan! hehe

    i love these videos

  • OMG!

This is one of the most incredible document I have ever seen...

    :O

  • Okay correction : Tony wasn't even in the band at this point. He was watching the show, and then tried out a little while later....before Spence's suicide, though.

  • Tony's playing on the right.

  • exactly he wasnt checking gwen at this point tho coz he was scared eric would mind. Btw does anyone else find it wierd how there covering a Madness song, i didnt even think they were big outside england

  • They werent in America.
