This was really a vindication for the women of 1994 who came so close to gold! Nancy defeated Oksana for the bronze medal, while Surya won the gold and Yuka settled for silver. It was special because you could tell all of the women took this event VERY seriously and trained hard.
One of best pro skates. Ive always loved N.K...I always loved her running stars into a sit spin and if u can turn a simple move into an elegant one it's iconic
Nancy is always in my thoughts, as well as her oldest brother, Mark. I am sure what he did wasn't intentional, though heart disease can definitely run in the family. Nancy needs to have time to heal especially when the tragedy that befell on both member of her family... her beloved father, Daniel Kerrigan, and especially to her older brother who probably can't get over the trauma of what happened between him and his father. My prayers are still with the Kerrigan family.
When Nancy was competing, spirals were not done the same way as skaters like Michelle, Sarah or Sasha and were rarely held for more than a couple seconds at a time.
Nancy wasn't particularly flexible, but what she did was bring centerpiece importance to the spiral by holding an attractive position with, most importantly, a long and steady edge.
It might not seem like much to some now, but she paved the way for making the spiral emotional and iconic in American women's skating.
That was absolutely beautiful! I truly enjoyed the video. She still could shine and I always have adored her lovely personality on the ice. I missed seeing her skating so much.
She really lights up when she skates well. If only she had trained like this more often as a professional, she would've done this well every week and really gained the confidence from the success. I guess she was burnt out and needed a bit of a break after the Olympics. She was really going through the motions for a while.
Yeah, she really continued to progress artstically after she went pro. If you like this, I posted another video from that same year to Queen's Who Wants to Live Forever. It's hardly the same style, but she's very fluid in that program as well, it's one of my favorites

What's so iconic about having to hold your leg with your hand, because you can't hold the spiral otherwise?

Agree... I don't like it. It looks like she can't hold it up on her own. Otherwise, I like her skating.

I remember watching this. Great job from Nancy. The music is gorgeous and I am surprised not many skaters have used this soundtrack.

I have been looking for this program for a long time! Haven't seen it since the first airing. Thank you soooo much!
Without a doubt, one of Nancy's best programs ever. The choreography, the music, the feeling she conveys, everything is just brilliant.
If I remember correctly, she held off a strong performance by Oksana Baiul to earn the bronze medal here.
