  • I assume this is a tribute in ways to Sister Rosetta Tharpe. Great song, beautiful vocals.

  • This song is totally different from any other songs that I listen to. That's why I love it so much.

  • Damn her vocals on this song(and every other song)are incredible.

  • Viva SAM PHILLIPS,

    the composer.

  • Alison has the voice of an angel looks like an angel too

  • This song was written by Sam Phillips who may be one of the most underappreciated singer songwriters in music today.

  • i agree

  • cjoye09, this is my favorite song from the CD too. I think it's my favorite song ever! besides Kashmir. Not so much for the high quality music, but for the lyrics. and, no better folk to sing it than these two. Thanks for sharing.

  • I love this song...and Alison and Robert, I recently came across that they duet together. They're amazing! This song tho sounds like Tom Waits playing the musical, his type of of instrumental. Alison you need to get with Tom Waits for a duet, his lyric's are a bit crazy at times...but his instrumentals are of this nature of this song. Love your voice and music Alison and Robert....keep doing more.

  • heard this song for the first time the other day. Terrific stuff

  • What a great and odd way to commemorate Sister Rosetta Tharpe. Listen to "Up Above my Head" by Sister Rosetta Tharpe. She is one bad woman.

  • My great uncle runs a bluegrass festival. About 20 years ago, we had Allison Kraus at our festival. My uncle told my sister (then about five and clueless) to ask for an autograph that says "Thanks for last night" on her album. She wrote, "Nice try" and signed it.

  • Beautiful! Btw, those pictures are incredible (don't envision Venice when hearing the song, but pretty nonetheless!).

  • The music is very Italian.

  • me too cjoye09, but I think this might be the purdiest song ever written, when you need a song like this. It's got a strong undertow.

  • "Strong undertow"

    Well put.

  • I discovered Alison Krauss when the movie cold mountain came out and I think she just has a fantastic voice!!!

    I really like this song!

Does anybody know, where I can download it???

  • Raising Sand is the most beautiful album I've ever heard in my life. The only good project Plant has done after Zeppelin.

  • I love love love this! I never tire of listening to this. It's magical.

  • And love Venice too..

  • Just discovered Alison Krauss and Robert Plant's collaboration.. like it .. much! .. I'm in love with Alison.. I know.. I'm a sad old git.. but I don't care no more..

  • Nobody can tell the river where to run.

  • Very true..I just know that Blue grass is where her roots are..

  • Absolutely, but 'grassers understand vertical intensity SO WELL that when they branch out they always add more to other styles...look at her cover of The Boxer with Shawn Colvin, for instance.

  • Someone should really make a vid with this song and pictures of the diff. ren faires!!! TRF and Scarbie and all the diff charactures would be awesome!!!

  • .... beautiful music and photos all very nice, shame that there is NOT also some photographs of Verona ...

    Ciao , ciao to everyone.

  • Yes - it reminds me of Cirque du Soleil too! And the arrangement has a quality of French or German caberet or of gypsy music. So interesting and haunting. And how wonderful to have a reminder of Sister Rosetta Tharpe!

  • This song is enchanting, a definite close your eyes and listen song. It will be in a movie soundtrack very soon, mark my words.

  • she inspires me...mmmmm!!!

    yummy!

  • I just attended the AK/RP concert this week. This song in real-time is just mesmerizing and haunting. It has a great gypsy, spell casting quality. I love to hear Alison stretching her vocals - simply enchanting.

  • Nice song Sam! I actually dig your version every bit as much as Alison's and that's saying something..

  • This is the best Alison has ever sounded. This song and the others are captivating.

  • Thank you!

  • Alison has one of the most beautiful voices that I have ever heard.

  • I agree

  • such a lovely and marvellous song....mmmm!

  • You have great artistic talent! The song has a shade of a gypsy sound at first.. but the images go beautifully well with this strange music, which sounds as if they're using non traditional instruments in the background..

  • Thank you so much! I browsed your channel and I love your favorites and just your general philosophy :-) You can tell you and I would get along pretty well! Stay hippie and hopeful!

  • well... I have admired yours as well. Feel free to check things out anytime!

  • Beautiful song, no doubt about that. Maybe would have looked even more fab with pics of Sister Rosetta herself, the legend. Rosetta Tharpe pioneering Gospel singer, songwriter and recording artist greatly popular in the 1930s and 1940s with a unique mixture of spiritual lyrics and early rock accompaniment. She played the mandolin.

This song, pays homage to several of her songs including "Strange Things Happening Everyday" and "Up Above My Head".

May we all continue to enjoy this gorgeous song.

  • mysterious and reminds me of Italian music i dont know why....

  • Yeah, it reminded me of Italy so that's why I incorporated pictures of Italy in the video :-)

  • cjoye, kudos for all the plant/krauss. i literally bought tickets to see them about 10 minutes ago. two greats indeed

  • Thank you very much! :-)

  • Love this song. It's on repeat on my playlist...

  • Great song with a glass of merlot....

  • ahh i love this song so muchh!!

  • umm...what a great song. i keep watching this over and over

  • Truly mystical sound. Though totally unconnected I am drawn to Cher "Dark Lady" every tine I hear this.....

  • I *dearly* love this song ! I've been listening to it over and over. The best thing on 'Raising Sand', IMO. Something oddly haunting about it. The lyrics are nothing short of mystical.

  • I would have to agree with everything you said... I LOVE this song (then again I love the whole album). Their voices go so well together (she has a BEAUTIFUL voice).

  • There's something magical about this song, beyond every "raising sand" song. It doesn't sound like anything out there. For a while, I listened to it all day every day. Beautiful chords and vocal patterns. I hope more music like this is made.

  • I love this album and my girlfriend and I went all over Italy right before we broke up so this is heartbreaking and great at the same time.

  • It's a beautiful place :-)

  • I have seen all these places.... just this past fall... seeing this set to one of my favorite songs form the raising sand cd is a little ironic! Love it.

  • :-) That's so cool to hear!

  • I wanna go to all these places.

  • this cover is basically equal with the original, im suprised

  • what's the original?

  • Lekker nummer.

  • An even more wonderous Alison Kraus.

  • Great images but the transitions are a bit too harsh - could do with some fading to soften the visual experience.

  • Thanks for the recommendation, I didn't think of that. :-)

  • Hey, great job on this. Beautiful song, beautiful pics. Nicely done.

  • Thank you :-)

  • One of my faves too! i also love fortune teller :)
