The banjo included in this song just made it sound that much more enticing.......I LOVE banjo music........:D I really want this entire album, too......
I think i've listen to this song over 60 times, and i can't get it out of my head. OMG..... are there any other songs like this? if so, please recommend

By far the best song on the album sorry Robert Plant but you almost ruined it. Alison Saved this Album from being cheesy. Alison Krauss could sing the phonebook and it would be beautiful.
cjoye09, this is my favorite song from the CD too. I think it's my favorite song ever! besides Kashmir. Not so much for the high quality music, but for the lyrics. and, no better folk to sing it than these two. Thanks for sharing.
I love this song...and Alison and Robert, I recently came across that they duet together. They're amazing! This song tho sounds like Tom Waits playing the musical, his type of of instrumental. Alison you need to get with Tom Waits for a duet, his lyric's are a bit crazy at times...but his instrumentals are of this nature of this song. Love your voice and music Alison and Robert....keep doing more.
My great uncle runs a bluegrass festival. About 20 years ago, we had Allison Kraus at our festival. My uncle told my sister (then about five and clueless) to ask for an autograph that says "Thanks for last night" on her album. She wrote, "Nice try" and signed it.
Just discovered Alison Krauss and Robert Plant's collaboration.. like it .. much! .. I'm in love with Alison.. I know.. I'm a sad old git.. but I don't care no more..
Absolutely, but 'grassers understand vertical intensity SO WELL that when they branch out they always add more to other styles...look at her cover of The Boxer with Shawn Colvin, for instance.
Someone should really make a vid with this song and pictures of the diff. ren faires!!! TRF and Scarbie and all the diff charactures would be awesome!!!
this song would be perfect at the beginning of a great and terrible beauty movie (of they make one) a Gemma rides to Spence and sees the gypsy camp...great song
does anybody know what song would be good for a funny dance.. i need one for my senior peice in April and i cant find much.. it cant be crude ya know?
Yes - it reminds me of Cirque du Soleil too! And the arrangement has a quality of French or German caberet or of gypsy music. So interesting and haunting. And how wonderful to have a reminder of Sister Rosetta Tharpe!
What song exatly is it this reminds you of? Do you have a source where you could look it up? I think this sounds familiar too but I cant find any information on it. It would be much appreciated if you could find the song.
lol, me and my friends in english class have an interesting story about this song. Our teacher plays it in class, and it makes us think of mountain goats!
I just attended the AK/RP concert this week. This song in real-time is just mesmerizing and haunting. It has a great gypsy, spell casting quality. I love to hear Alison stretching her vocals - simply enchanting.
Saw her in concert in Brussels, lovely tiny lady on stage, incredible, with her fiddle, it was splendid..and the concert too, go if you can...great great great concert....
You have great artistic talent! The song has a shade of a gypsy sound at first.. but the images go beautifully well with this strange music, which sounds as if they're using non traditional instruments in the background..
Thank you so much! I browsed your channel and I love your favorites and just your general philosophy :-) You can tell you and I would get along pretty well! Stay hippie and hopeful!
Beautiful song, no doubt about that. Maybe would have looked even more fab with pics of Sister Rosetta herself, the legend. Rosetta Tharpe pioneering Gospel singer, songwriter and recording artist greatly popular in the 1930s and 1940s with a unique mixture of spiritual lyrics and early rock accompaniment. She played the mandolin.
This song, pays homage to several of her songs including "Strange Things Happening Everyday" and "Up Above My Head".
I *dearly* love this song ! I've been listening to it over and over. The best thing on 'Raising Sand', IMO. Something oddly haunting about it. The lyrics are nothing short of mystical.
I would have to agree with everything you said... I LOVE this song (then again I love the whole album). Their voices go so well together (she has a BEAUTIFUL voice).
There's something magical about this song, beyond every "raising sand" song. It doesn't sound like anything out there. For a while, I listened to it all day every day. Beautiful chords and vocal patterns. I hope more music like this is made.
I have seen all these places.... just this past fall... seeing this set to one of my favorite songs form the raising sand cd is a little ironic! Love it.
impresionante, I feel with this song a strange nostalgic, like Pessoa says a SAUDADE...WONDERFUL...
