@XLearnyourabcsX It will be refreshing to see this team playing in fron of a raucous crowd in Quebec City. The Coyotes are a good team, and they need to play someplace where fans will appreciate that. They've never gotten that in Phoenix.
@nyanfalcon I saw 5 Islanders fans at the Coyotes game yesterday, and the game looked pretty filled up, even when the Islander arent a good team! Go Coyotes!!
Oh and another thing, It'd be nice to have people stop talking like they know Phoenix when they have never even been here. Okay, now that that's off my chest :)
we dont need to go there to know its a hot, dry, miserable shithole where you'll die if you're not in air conditioning at all times. hockey in the desert, it just doesn't make sense.
@anonanon556 That's what I'm talking about. It's not hot everywhere and I can spend a couple hours outside without air conditioning in the summer. Obviously you haven't been here. If someone has lived in Arizona for 13 years like I have then you get used to the heat.
@anonanon556 "we dont need to go there to know its a cold, wet, miserable shithole where you'll die if you're not by a heater at all times." Fixed it for ya ;)
Okay, for you who aren't from here, I'm from PHX and I am IN LOVE with hockey (And I know a lot of people IN ARIZONA who love hockey too) and I am not Canadian nor do I know any Canadians. And I'm sick and tired of people making comments about how empty Jobing.com Arena is. If I could go to every game I would but there's this thing called money and Arizona doesn't have a crap load of that. And like rockerseven said, we keep hearing that their moving so that kind of puts a damper on things.
@AHHHHHCHOOOOOO So then you just made the case for moving the franchise. If the city doesnt have the financial means to support a team, then why keep it there? Cities like Hartford and Winnipeg (where the Coyotes came from) lost their teams because of a lack of an arena deal, even though they had the attendance and ratings. Lack of attendance shows lack of interest whether you think it does or not. Its a 1:1 correlation.
and to answer the question of "where did everyone go?"
people didnt buy tix to the games, because all summer, the ONLY thing anyone ever heard in the media about the team was "coyotes bankrupt, might move to canada"
that does alot to stop ticket sales...dont believe me? just look at pittsburgh back in 07 when everyone thought they were going to move
or winnipeg in 96 when everyone knew they would move
but then the last few games of that season were sell outs after the team did so well
@rockerseven I attendance this year, is way better than the past couple of years, because Fans are hearing nothing of the team leaving. The Coyotes will stay in Phoenix, GO COYOTES!!
@Cardsgirl13 With what money? It's an embarrassment to see home games there. Road fans outdraw the Coyotes fans at home games. Even with tickets at cutthroat prices, fans don't bother to show up. And attendance is better this year? They still rank dead last in the league. And they've made the playoffs back to back years. The Oilers draw more fans, and they haven't made the playoffs for 5 straight seasons.
Great, now move them to Portland Oregon! Our Junior team can shit 8,500 fans a game and at least 2 games a month that sell out! I repeat this is a junior team!!
I'm a huge coyotes fan, I go to as many games as I can, but with the financial world the way it is, it's hard sometimes. As for how far Jobing.com Arena is, it's not 60 miles you dumb asses, have you ever even seen or been there? It's 16 miles from downtown Phoenix. The excuse of "it's too far" is so freakin annoying. If your a fan that can afford to go, you'd be there. I can barely afford to buy tickets at times, but I still do, I find a way.
@katycarlson todd walsh once brought up the very good point that no one ever complains to drive out that way to go to cardinals games
at times, its actually easier to drive to glendale than it is to navigate through down town phoenix to get to america west arena
the last couple seasons for the yotes have just been a lot of different things all happening at the same time...bad economy (phx being one of the worst hit), the media not paying any attention to the team, the ownership crisis, etc.
@slurpeecrush not true im from nc and the hurricanes have pretty good attendance because theres more northerners in raleigh and charlotte nowadays than there are natives
Winnipeg Jets back!! So awesome, I being to 2 Coyotes games, but so happy Jets back, I already went to home opener and will go to many more ahead!! Go Jets Go!
@auxarmesFCK1900 if you do that then you will kill all hockey in Arizona. I dont know for sure but im guessing that Quebec or Hartford still has hockey despite losing their professional teams.
I think it'd be pretty cool to move them to Las Vegas, I bet they'd get a lot more media attention there and the phoenix fans that are left aren't too far away
Dear NHL commissioner, you are a dumbass for insisting on keeping the coyotes in Arizona, it is a waste of money and until this year Winnipeg was wronged by not having a team. This video shows how stupid you really are,
@nucklehead2 nope, theyre actually supported very well. they just have a rink thats way out in the boonies that is impossible to get to weekday nights for anyone who lives in south phoenix (which is most people)
@soulevs i didn't know that the city of Scottsdale was the "boonies," and i also didn't know that supporting a hockey team "very well" meant losing at least 25 million dollars every season and going bankrupt. Answer me this....how far away is South Phoenix from the rink??
@soulevs so glandale is the boonies?? then i really really live out in the boonies hahahaha. 60 miles thats it?? i live 2 hours away from Sharks games and that doesn't stop me
@nucklehead2 Yeah, not California....not even sure how many miles away that would be....
I live 2 hours away as well, I made it to probably about 25 games last year. But most people work until 5, downtown Phoenix traffic is hell (and necessary to make it to the rink), and on weekdays is just isnt feasible to go to games.
Your Sharks have the benefit of a decent team. If they lost for a decade, they would have a fairly empty arena too
HOCKEY DOESN'T BELONG IN THE DESERT WITH REDNECKS WHO DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT HOCKEY. THE COYOTES HAVE NEVER BEEN PLAYOFF BOUND. yeah they been selling out...when a real team plays there all the snowbirds from michigan and minnesota come and watch hockey in the desert is a lost cause
shit being the armpit of canada is better than living in a crime infested gang ridden hell hole ..you fucks in phoenix wanna keep your team ? then get off your lazy asses and go to games...it takes a game maybe being the last one for you to realize you have a hockey team in town..fuck my nephews midget team draws better crowds than that sorry ass team
@savageMETISguy OUR city uses tax dollars? Winnipeg has to ask the government to borrow money for the MTS to get rehabbed and to bring a team back! Whats that called??? THE SAME THING. I was hoping to be laughing my ass off when the peggers are the first in NHL history to lose a team TWICE....but they'll have to settle being the second, I guess. What a joke. I give them 2 years tops before that shithole sinks AGAIN
@savageMETISguy 5000 fans my ass....they've been selling out buddy...as for your "team"...MTS may get the support the first season, but as usual, the winnipeckers will fail. That city will fail over and over just because its the armpit of Canada. You still have the Thrashers...a team thats destined to fail.
@savageMETISguy Please do...I'm all ears. Again, you are another misinformed troll, just like the rest. There werent ANY playoff tickets given away. As a matter of fact, the Winnipeg Sun just reported needing a government loan just to get a team up there! OUR council is a joke? YOUR council is doing the exact same thing, except trying to sponge off a different source. The only difference is we still have a team....and you DONT.
@BustinBeaver Like I said...Low attendance? We had a 74% capacity overall in 2010 and 77% in 2011. You are also comparing attendance numbers when the economy crashed. Coyotes games were almost full capacity games about halfway through the season, and sold out to standing room only for the playoffs. Let me remind you, Winnipeg already lost their team once. Sinkhole? I think Winnipeg already knows what a sinkhole is.
@BustinBeaver Well your news is wrong. My facts come from the city council, the NHL and from being a STH at the arena. Things aren't different now. Winnipeg is not just a sinkhole, but probably the worst city to live in Canada. Even the players dont want to live there. Wanna talk numbers? Winnipegs arena cant even hold what our arena avereges per game....so how do you think that THEY are not going to lose money?
@BustinBeaver My bad..."probably" was a bad use of the phrase. Winnipeg is a shithole. DEFINITELY. The players that dont live there arent "hypocrites" either....please explain that? NONE of the Coyotes wanted to go there because the weather sucks, and theres absolutely no social life to be had out there. You can look up vids on youtube of them explaining for themselves! That doesnt make them hypocrites, that makes them SMART. Winnipeg is a lose-lose situation.
@BustinBeaver As a matter of fact, I have been to Winnipeg, and many other cities in Canada....so, youre saying the ice is colder in the arena there? I seriously doubt it. And the "support"? Your city is trying to get government loans to get the team financially stable! NO different than whats going on in Az. I would rather live in Arizona (and so would most people who have been to Winnipeg compared to here), any day of the week.
@BustinBeaver A city that doesnt seem to like hockey? I dont know whats worse....people up there thinking they are the only ones who like hockey? You are so misinformed its pathetic. Obviously you havent kept up with any info on the Coyotes, because once this deal is done, they will be here PERMANENTLY. There is no 1 year or two year agreement! Get your facts straight, read up a little about whats going on...look at some numbers before you try bashing our city about "not liking hockey".
@BustinBeaver Many (not a few) of the games were sold out arena. When the economy crashed here, what can you expect but to take some loss? The Coyotes have a SOLID fan base. Take a look at STH sales for 2011...they are already up over 50% compared to 2010, which had very substantial sales. I'm not interested in living in Winnipeg. I enjoy my nice weather here. Why do you think half of your country migrates here in the winter? Its not rocket science. " :D "
@BustinBeaver You keep bringing up social life...that not for me, thats what the players said. I personally dont care about whats up there (neither do they) and the 1 year you are talking about is the time the council gave the franchise to get the ownership deal settled NOT the time glendale will be given support for the team. You really do need to do some more research on what you are talking about. You really think a salary cap solves everything dont you? Good luck on that.
@savageMETISguy Obviously you havent been to a coyotes game? 7000 fans? REALLY? Hmmmm......Its been over 12000 if not sold out most of this season! Since 1996? REALLY? You better get your facts straight. Youre just as bad as the pegger trolls or the winnipeg sun.
@savageMETISguy Does it make sense basing your facts on 1 season when the economy crashed? I think not. I dont know whats worse....hearing the pegger trolls cry about how we "stole" everthing from them....or knowing its never going to stop when the yotes stay here.
@savageMETISguy HAHAHAHAHA! Winnipeckers fail again. Nothing was "stolen"...you lost the team because Winnipeg couldnt support it. You think they are going to come back? Even the whole city council up there says they arent!
The Vancouver Canucks blanked the Phoenix Coyotes 7-0 on the Coyotes own home ice. There seemed to be more people cheering on the Canucks than the Coyotes in that game. If it weren't for those hundreds of Canuck fans making a lot of noise whenever the Vancouver team scored a goal, that arena would have been dead quiet. I know I'll annoy some viewers with my next comments. But looking at the number of empty seats in Phoenix, I think this team should return to Winnipeg.
@nonamebrand0 they were going to build their arena right in the middle of their fanbase (over in scottsdale)
but unfortunately that deal fell through, and glendale stepped up
but the ironic thing (as was mentioned by todd walsh on fox sports arizona) is that you never hear people complain about driving out to glendale for cardinals games
that arena has seen an avg. of 14k-15k fans...during the losing seasons
if not for this ownership crisis, attendance would proabably be alot higher

I remember as watching hockey as a kid. I watch hockey now, and it makes me want to cry. The only way I will become an avid fan like I was as a kid is if the NHL and Gary Betman comes to it's senses. I mean it really makes me want to cry. The Americans took something priceless and made it into a cheese burger from Mcdonalds. The NHL reminds me of a cheeseburger meal from Mcdonalds now days. I have hardly any interest any more because of this ridiculous wet dream that Gary Betman has.
I will tell you where all the fans whent from the home openers Back to Detroit If u where at the game u would know. I love the coyotes we get people the people that go know stuff about hockey( usually ) but az just not a hockey state cuz it always so hot
arizona not a hockey town come to san jose $ for a ticked up in the $45 for a ticked in the nose bleeds ahahhaa shure u can get a seat in the lower bowl for a round 800-$ $1000 bucks a pop yea sanjose huge hovkey town
The only reason why Phoenix Coyotes attendance increased was cause the NFL and The Cardinals arnt playing. Not cause of playoffs or them doing good. I mean look they went on a 10 Home Game Winning Streak and they only got 8000 fans through the whole thing.
Apparently, half the tickets were given for free for the Coyotes' home opener. If it wasn't for that, we're looking at a home opener with less than 9 000 fans!
@lasda13 The team wanted to relocate? I think not. Every member of the team wants to stay in Phx. Get your facts straight and quit trying to troll. FAIL.
@jonnoel1 lol when i mention the team wanted to relocate, i meant about the organization... Even if every member of the team wanted to play for Phoenix, they've got nothing to do if the management wanted to play elsewhere. Ur the one who needs to do more research, or i think ur laptop fails u
@lasda13 The organization never wanted to relocate either! My laptop fails? WTF? Makes no sense....I'd like you to show me where you found the organization wanted to relocate...please, enlighten me. The organization has wanted the team to stay since day one. NOBODY wanted relocation. Prove me wrong with a link where you saw that (other than the Winnipeg Sun) God knows their whole staff is a bunch of rumor mongers and trolls.
@jonnoel1 Ok dawg, i might be wrong with thought about this relocation issue, but still shame on Coyotes fans... U gotta admit it, less than 7,000 fans showed up out of a 17,500+ seat arena, shame on that... Juz think about this, the Coyotes are in the playoffs yet 50% of the arena are bein occupied by the fans of the opposing team??!! 2 years in a row???!!! WTF was that supposed to mean?? Now enlighten me with that.
@lasda13 Sorry, youre wrong again. I was at all of the playoff games, and the arena probably had 1/4 wings fans...and most of those fans wear yotes jerseys during the regular season. You are talking about a time when the economy crashed too. This wasnt the only team that had empty seats. I saw teams all throughout the NHL with empty seats. The stars, the av's, thrashers, oilers, rangers and canes,ALL have had games with a lot of empty seats. I'd even email pics to prove it wasnt 50% wings fans
the first night they sold tickets for $25 in lower bowl and $15 in upper bowl with free white t-shirts. Else, I'm sure it would have been more around 14000-15000 and not a lot of white
Actually ESPN estimated the real attendance to around 5000, because most NHL teams includes unused season tickets in game attendance numbers. For example, Toronto has been sold out for years, yet 3 years ago I saw some games highlights and one of them had full of empty seats
Toronto's lower bowl is usually pretty empty because of the Platinum Lounge. It's a restaurant under the seats for the people who can afford the $400 tickets. Most just stay in there for most of the game enjoying their $38 burgers. All the tickets are sold in Toronto though. The upper bowl (which is never shown) is where the real fans sit and is always packed. There's a reason the Leafs have the hardest ticket to come by in the NHL.
I am looking forward to buying season tickets for this team next year... when they're in Seattle!

Youre just as bad as the pegger trolls or the winnipeg sun.
jonnoel1 9 months ago
@savageMETISguy Does it make sense basing your facts on 1 season when the economy crashed? I think not. I dont know whats worse....hearing the pegger trolls cry about how we "stole" everthing from them....or knowing its never going to stop when the yotes stay here.
jonnoel1 9 months ago

But looking at the number of empty seats in Phoenix, I think this team should return to Winnipeg.

forget Winnipeg, they should never have left Phoenix for Glendale.
nonamebrand0 1 year ago

Shame on Coyotes fan... Lack of support thats why the team wanted to relocate... Once again shame on u Phoenix fans!!!
lasda13 2 years ago 9
@lasda13 no, bad management and under the table deals by the owner were the reason the yotes were about to move
the lack of attendence was because all summer all news was "coyotes will move"
no one is going to buy tix to a team that is going to be gone the next year
rockerseven 1 year ago
@lasda13 The team wanted to relocate? I think not. Every member of the team wants to stay in Phx. Get your facts straight and quit trying to troll. FAIL.
jonnoel1 10 months ago
@jonnoel1 lol when i mention the team wanted to relocate, i meant about the organization... Even if every member of the team wanted to play for Phoenix, they've got nothing to do if the management wanted to play elsewhere. Ur the one who needs to do more research, or i think ur laptop fails u
lasda13 10 months ago
@lasda13 The organization never wanted to relocate either! My laptop fails? WTF? Makes no sense....I'd like you to show me where you found the organization wanted to relocate...please, enlighten me. The organization has wanted the team to stay since day one. NOBODY wanted relocation. Prove me wrong with a link where you saw that (other than the Winnipeg Sun) God knows their whole staff is a bunch of rumor mongers and trolls.
jonnoel1 9 months ago
@jonnoel1 Ok dawg, i might be wrong with thought about this relocation issue, but still shame on Coyotes fans... U gotta admit it, less than 7,000 fans showed up out of a 17,500+ seat arena, shame on that... Juz think about this, the Coyotes are in the playoffs yet 50% of the arena are bein occupied by the fans of the opposing team??!! 2 years in a row???!!! WTF was that supposed to mean?? Now enlighten me with that.
lasda13 9 months ago
@lasda13 Sorry, youre wrong again. I was at all of the playoff games, and the arena probably had 1/4 wings fans...and most of those fans wear yotes jerseys during the regular season. You are talking about a time when the economy crashed too. This wasnt the only team that had empty seats. I saw teams all throughout the NHL with empty seats. The stars, the av's, thrashers, oilers, rangers and canes,ALL have had games with a lot of empty seats. I'd even email pics to prove it wasnt 50% wings fans

What is that goddamn noise coming out of my speakers? Oh... it's supposed to be music.
ubbecykelkedja 2 years ago
the first night they sold tickets for $25 in lower bowl and $15 in upper bowl with free white t-shirts. Else, I'm sure it would have been more around 14000-15000 and not a lot of white
DJOmnimaga 2 years ago 9
Actually ESPN estimated the real attendance to around 5000, because most NHL teams includes unused season tickets in game attendance numbers. For example, Toronto has been sold out for years, yet 3 years ago I saw some games highlights and one of them had full of empty seats
DJOmnimaga 2 years ago 3
Toronto's lower bowl is usually pretty empty because of the Platinum Lounge. It's a restaurant under the seats for the people who can afford the $400 tickets. Most just stay in there for most of the game enjoying their $38 burgers. All the tickets are sold in Toronto though. The upper bowl (which is never shown) is where the real fans sit and is always packed. There's a reason the Leafs have the hardest ticket to come by in the NHL.

Fantastic game. I watched it online. Was hard to tell if Jovo scored with his stick or glove.
I just hope the fans in Phoenix show up because as you said MP, this is a very exciting team to watch.
