OMG that is the cutest cute puppy ever!! i recently adopted a 3 year old blue heeler from someone who has passed and im enjoying his company greatly! i was just looking to see what he may have looked like as a puppy... OH they r soo cute!!!
your right there is nothing wrong with bringing home a 5week old puppy (health wise) the only thing that is a problem will be dog socializing the puppy. Puppies learn alot from there litter mates and how to play with other dogs when they are with them it makes a dog more confident around other dogs and not dog agressive. A good dog breeder ACD or not will not let a puppy go till at least 8-9weeks. Again im not saying what you did was wrong just the breeder who sold the pup to you.
aw such a fat puppy. I remember when my heeler was a pup, and had that baby fat- we called her 'pig dog'. She's a voracious eater now so she lived up to her nickname.
I love my dog Roxi, who loves me and keeps me company after losing my 15 1/2 year old dalmatian who died this past july(bless her heart),blue heelers are loyal and will stay with you to the ends of the earth.
"too smart for his own good. Definitely a "velcro" breed. Always stick with you. " SOOOOOOOOOO True. Great Dogs, can't see myself going for another breed!
We had a blue heeler (smithfield) for 13 years. Se passed away at 13, but she was such a good dog. We are gettig a pup of te same breed of a breeder in qld. Cant wait
Australian Cattle Dogs I believe are the best breed of dog ever, so loyal and loving. But I hate it when the Yanks dock their tails!!!! Like what the hell for??? They use their tails for balance! Plus they have awesome looking bushy tails
@cheekywun True, but I used to own a blue cattle dog when I was very young, and his tail used to wqrap around toward his food when he used to eat, and he one day caught it and chewed a quarter of it off. Sometimes it's good to get their tails stumped
@skatingsetmestraight I agree that there are some circumstances where tails need to be dock (injuries to the tail etc) but there is absolutely no other reason to dock a dogs tail especially a Australian Cattle Dog.
these dogs are so cute, even when they r full grown but i have had two and im getting a puppy this summer and i have to admitt i miss the cute puppy stages! :)
ACDs are the best breed ever! My bitch, Shelby was almost human-like in her actions. Do yourself a favor and get to know this breed. But be warned, they aren't for shy, timid dog owners. This is a man's dog and require a consistent, strong alpha presence.
aww he's so cute x3 I just recently got two blue heeler puppies, Jaxx and Dingo XD but I find this little guy a bit cuter then them, but I still love 'em
aww I got my blue heeler when she was that old too! Except she didn't chase a ball, she liked to chase the lambs every time she got. Her name is Zelda.
I got an acd and she is a crazy little ball of fur and energy! She is a great little puppy that listens to me and is incrediby smart, I love these dogs!
aww he is adorable! i have a blue heeler we rescued from the humane society and she is a year old now and a BUNDLE of energy! haha but she is a sweetheart wouldnt trade her for anything
What a nice puppy! How is the dog doing today? Do you practice any sport or obedience training with the dog? And how come that you could take a FIVE week old puppy home???
Since I have a home office, and this is a very smart breed, he was ready to go home as soon as he was weened. Never cried once. Matter of fact I can't remember a time he's cried period. Tough breed. Great frisbee dog, working steers occasionally, sometimes too smart for his own good. Definitely a "velcro" breed. Always stick with you.
That pup is as cute as a hamster. ACD dogs can be very useful for all sorts of things, everyone knows like herding, but they can also be used as tracking dogs, for that reason, to track down escaped convicts and fugitives.
If you can spend every day with your blue heeler as a puppy, there is nothing better than making him your companion as soon as they are weened onto solid food. Heeler's are extremely intelligent, bonding members of the family and clearly understand their role away from the litter and as part of your home and companion from day one.
He never looked back & he has never cried, even till now. These aren't labs or boxers, these are Blue Heeler's.
Don't get one & don't comment if you don't understand cattle dogs or owners who can more than accomodate a fully weened puppy.
An arbitrary 8 weeks ignores differences in breeds, owners, & dogs.
Personally, I always get my dogs as soon as they are on solid food. These are not labradoodles. Heeler's are very accomodating to this, especially compared to non working breeds.
Then again I worked at home and the dog could spend every hour with me. He has never been caged, ever.
In my lifetime, ive owned 4 cattle dogs and i hardly think they are a danger to me or you-ya just gotta find the one that youoverlook more than the others you want to choose
Just a heads up, these dogs do like to nip at peoples ankels especially. Thats my personal experience with them. I had an incident where mine nipped a cheerleader on the leg at a football game. cost me a medical bill. LOL
I did mean healing. Sorry for the misunderstanding. However, in the hands of an inexperienced owner, this can develop into a serious issue. This is where my comments were aimed, as many people will see your cute puppy and fall in love.
You know... I have to tell you that this is the most energetic 5 weeks old pup that I've seen so far.... Very Very active... look at him how he runs after the big ball... LOL!
cute puppy.. i have one of my own.. Lily, gorgeous lil' things blue heelers are.. the ones here in australia look better than the american ones coz most of the american ones aren't purebred..
Of course, 8 weeks is the standard, and you can get away with 7(which I believe to be the PERFECT time to aquire one and start training).....but 5 weeks? Wow. Hope everything went o.k. for you. That's a cute lil poochy ya got there btw. Peace.
Very cute puppy! That ball is in for it in a few weeks, though! Make sure you train the' "Bite 'Em" outta him, or your guests will be Heeled through the house!
I just adopted a 10 month old cattle dog from the humane society and he does the same thing with a soccer ball. Makes me really want a real baby dog watching this though.
They are called heelers for a reason, and that also means they don't "bite" hard. You don't have to train a dog to cut a herd, you train the breed to not hurt the livestock (unlike a wolf). "Gumming" my hand doesn't mean he will be poorly trained like your dogs. The breed has nothing to do w/ biting.

theholytoast 4 years ago
Funny, but not when he gets older....
Cattles are already very mouthy, its not such a great idea to let them chew on people. The younger they start, the harder it is to stop.
Very cute though, but 5 weeks is very young! Hopefully they have the mother with the other puppies as well...
nomadofthehills 4 years ago
They are called heelers for a reason, and that also means they don't "bite" hard. You don't have to train a dog to cut a herd, you train the breed to not hurt the livestock (unlike a wolf).
