Pierce with a fork or knife tip. I boil it about 30 min or so. One year I had extras and carved them like Jack-O-lanterns. You have to lean them against a wall or step cause they don't stand on their own.

It is also nice because the squash stores well if you keep it in a cool place. You can be eating them and dreaming about summer, long into the winter.

This is the most under rated vegetable of all, I boil the whole thing. Slice in half. Remove seeds. Finally, scrape out the pulp. I put a white sauce over it but I must try the spaghetti sauce.
