Well...each to their own I suppose but Musicpriestess ....I wonder what you are using for ears. Joni Mitchell was an absolute original, a huge talent (all these songs are her songs, composed by her, played by her and based on her own life). The Hoffman version is junk in comparison (her 'Hey Jude' cover is even worse!). An 'also ran' in the world of music, soon to be forgotten (unlike Joni who is one of the immortals!). No offence intended...but I find such statements hard to comprehend!!

This song is about drugs, but "Cold Blue Steel" is about heroin addiction. Joni

writes and plays songs that are pertinent in her life....probably the best songwriter and female performer we have seen yet. These songs from the 60s and 70s appeal to so many people today which is evidence her talents are extraordinary

I heard this was written about the conclusion of the 60s, her reflection upon the dying Hippy movement ("Acid, booze and ass, needles, guns and grass, lots of laughs"), sort of an internal dialogue with her depression over the end of an era that had so much promise. Whichever way around, it's a beautiful song that's perfectly executed. Thank you Joni.
