Sonic could have been so great in my opinion. If they just studied what made sonic so great in the first place they could have had a successful transition to 3D. Such as the physics and ball mechanics, a stage that flows well but allows the player to have some sort of control over its character. None of these are present in the game, and if they are it's very subtle

i think what makes a game adventure has absolutely nothing with quality but the themes of the game play

such multiple characters and several interlinking stories and each character having their own style

the choas and adventure feilds arnt exactly what makes a adventure game but are typically related to

Sonic 06 isn't bad it has some rough points (like glitches and loading time which the glitches are fun to play with) but the music is good and the speed levels are good I think overall it was a great game
