@BrokN9 I thought it takes bad frames away to smooth out the shots. I've never used it but was just wondering. I see it actually takes the image and makes it a little smaller so you can correct the shake.
Hi, i watch many of your tutorials , they are great!
If it is not secret , how fast is your computer?
I just bought quad core i7, 2.93 ghz, with 2x4GB Ram, and it still gives me 15 hours for smoothcam to analyze 1 minute video (((, is it because the video is MOV, or what??? Thanks
@hakob82 It takes so long most likely because you pulled one minute out of a much larger clip in your queue/bin. It automatically smooths out the ENTIRE clip, even if only a small portion is on your timeline...
I can understand why some times it may be nice, but I wish there was an option to choose if you want it to automatically do the WHOLE video or not... (if there is, someone please tell me!)
Great tutorial! But, I'm getting the message "Unanalyzed" and don't know how to get SmoothCam to start! There's nothing I found in FCP help, I've tried rendering, etc. Thanks. I'd appreciate it if you can include this situation, "Unanalyzed".
thank!s! a lot! but i need to get another computer cuz mine says waiting time 5hours jesus!! what is the capacity of ur computer ? can u tell me the specs?
I want to thank you for all of the info and how clean you always make your instructional videos. I hope to continue learning from your teaching. I'm a teacher and I rate you among the best in your field. Thanks again. Burt in Sacramento
Hey every1, just foud a great website with huge file collection (PC And MAC) Just google For Aries-Films and u will find it. You can also watch youtube video in my channel and see how many great programs they got
Awesome tutorial.I have one question though, let me see if I can describe this correctly:
I have a long clip that involves a camera zoom in the last 10-20 seconds to focus on the subject. The focus is a static shot of the subject, but the clip shakes. If I cut the clip around the static shot (so that I have two clips now), how can I smooth the last 10 seconds without the clip jumping in zoom to compensate for the SmoothCam corrections? Or do I need to smoothcam the entire clip without cutting it?

i analyzed my clip, and the clip looks like it jerks even more after using the smoothcam filter. i also do see any black edges, so i didnt turn of the auto scale. I have an sd clip, can anyone help?
@dollilamaa There needs to be a point of reference in the frame that does not move, like a corner in a wall or something. If everything is moving like in a pan shot, it can't lock on to anything.
i've noticed that smoothcam takes quite a bit to analize the clip...can you explain how we can make the piece of the full clip an indipendent clip so it can analize it faster? thx
@ishrihernandez yeah, even though he said it's a fasssst computer but for that little clip it took like 20 seconds, lol on mine it's like 3 sec, is that a MacBook?
i use a 2.8ghz macbook pro with 4 gb of ram, i normaly stop running all other programs before i start editing to help FCP have more available GPU space...
This is super, if you shoot aerial you don't need gyro stabilisator, I am just interested if i shot on Red One and my final product is about to be HD, in what res. should I shot so I use smooth cam? 4K for HD or 2K for HD?
True, you're going to loose res if you zoom in on any clip that's the same res as the sequence - this is part of what SmoothCam's doing.
I've found that as long as you don't go over about 110% you can normally get away with it.
I also try and shoot at a higher res than the final output if possible - shoot HD/HDV for SD delivery, SD for a 512x288 web vid and so on. That way you can zoom in without these problems, allowing all sorts of pans/re-framing etc whilst maintaining a good image.
You need to export the small clip (10-20secs), then re-import just the small clip, and add smoothcam. Smoothcam analyzes the ENTIRE clip from the browser, not just the small portion you have in your timeline. That will solve your problem.
This is really a great and professional tutorial. Interesting ad well made. You wouldnt know where I could get FCP6 for free ?? In case you know, please let me know too :o)
Hey emeek, now the question is how is the image quality? when you stretch the video out you spread the pixels out which kills the quality, how can you compensate for that now? Thanks for making all these tutorials for everyone, your the best
what the '';']!!? It doesn't work with me??? I can not put it into video filters..???
Why doesn't it work with me??

why does it get blury after using the effect?
missdreamgurl 2 years ago
@missdreamgurl Probbaly cuz it's cropping in (zooming in) to the picture, so you lose a little resolution. Try a light sharpen filter.

I tried sooth cam on a small 15 sec clip on my new macbook pro. It said that the clip would take 9 hours to analyze. What am I doing wrong?
frillington 2 years ago
It's simple.
If you have a big clip with a duration of 1 hour,
you choose only 2 second and this small clip on the timeline. When you apply SmoothCam, it will render all the 1 hour !!
So, export your 2 second in one Quicktime clip, before apply this filter.

Thank you so much for the reply Sbe22 - that is a big help.
frillington 2 years ago
@Sbe22 so right, i like how he says its quick because he has a fast computer, not because it is most likely s 2 second clip.

You need to export the small clip (10-20secs), then re-import just the small clip, and add smoothcam. Smoothcam analyzes the ENTIRE clip from the browser, not just the small portion you have in your timeline. That will solve your problem.
