All countries should import things only if it is not available, not because it is made in other country cheaper. For 1 direct job loss there me upto 100 's of indirect job losses. Americans make the best products in the world And are watched and policed by all American citizens to make sure products are made safely as can be Or they are fined or sued. Companys that leave USA in make products elsewhere is for low standers ,slave wages,ect Other countries have much more closed markets. In japan only 5% of there cars are foreign made because of there gov. and there more patroitic. Many Americans used to be, lets be again. Go on line to USA MADE. Fair decent jobs USA MADE

No I don't like the Govt. to interfere with everything, but then how do we compete with China Slave Labor? Do we also put the children in factories to work so we can compete? Where does the desire for the lowest price end? Back 50 years ago products would be built to last; now products are built to throw in a dump after a year. I know thing cannot continue this way. If Americans want to 'buy American' then just do it when you go shopping. But the reason any of those buy American (or Australian or British or whatever country you live in) campaigns don't work is that people will buy goods that are the cheapest or most efficient and a lot of those come from other countries. If you want to have the gov interfere with the production and pricing of goods, you start moving towards an inefficient state (or even a communist one!).

Free trade allows all countries to prosper. If we impose tariffs on imports from china that leaves, china with less money to buy things from us and us less money to buy other things because we have to pay such high prices.

Also lets say we buy things from china, now china has allot of money, what are they going to do with it? buy stuff from our country. Also think about all the companys that buy things from china and sell them here. Furniture stores, clothing companies. who would want to pay allot of money for something you can get for 40% cheaper ?

Stop subsidizing shipping, and almost all production will become smaller in scale and far more local. If you cant find a USA product in the store, let the company know your not okay with that. Than go on line to American made or USA made and you can find products there. Spread the word . And maybe stores will wise up again and companies. And make and sell American again.

Yeah increase import tax and all countries will do the same and you end up having all goods more expensive and the difference will be swallowed by the state. That is all you get.

Don't forget not that long ago we were self suffienct.. We cannot keep on buying forien stuff and not sell the same amount back to them, this is what is destroying the country. Notice from 1970 how we went downhill because things started to be made in Japan
