If you can find the recorded version they did of this classic, it may very well change your mind. If not that's the great thing about music, we all like and loathe different things. Me....I just don't get Nirvana, Michael Jackson and The Doors.....all awful in their own way !
Originally by Magazine in 1980, then covered by MFTCC in 1994 on 'Brood', then by Morrisey in 2006.. I must say I like the original too, quite different to this version..not sure about Morrisey's yet! ;P
gday its thommo and all i can say is that i have loved this group of... well .... all i can say is my idols since circa 1993 and they in all honesty probably saved my life, sounds cliche i know but we played MFTCK at my soul mates funeral in 1995 & in 3 weeks in hobart on 17 th october we're playing them in all their glory at our wedding in hobart Tasmania. thank you so much as ive only just got on a computer ( not very savvy!) but my beatiful bride to be sent me here!
Methinks the Magazine purists need to get over themselves and realise a well-played and sung cover is actually a tribute. This clip has been put up specifically for Chocolate Cake fanatics and completists, and goes down a treat when played at live shows.
i gotta say, i've just been on a YoutTube Magazine bender, and you purists need to lighten up! Its not a good look to be so precious. I mean, I'm no fan of Aus folky gimmicky stuff, but this was actually a good cover
These musicians are obviously competent enough to do an OK cover of this song ( although the material does not suit this singer )- unfortunately for some reason only apparent to themselves they take a great song and turn it into a farce. just awful. Yea JMcG+ RIP

JemmaHaemorage read Dostoevsky and consider the original songs lyrical content. This is awful- some dullard on iTunes thinks that this is the original song which was covered by Magazine(!) (Oh Howard the ignominy of Australians really knows no bounds.....RIP JMcG)
They are still together and on tour around Australia currently. The only thing this clip has in common with The Big Gig is Flacco. Different network. It's from the Jimeoin show on 7, Big Gig was ABC.
fuck off!!

the original gets the foot tapping, this one's good for chillin' to - except for the person with the trumpet - a complete irritant

That's Flacco.. he is the epitome of ridiculousness.. he's not supposed to be a musician!!!!

I actually like the Morrissey version best. He's got a lovely voice, it gives the song a depth that other versions lack.
The original version is really snarly and sarcastic in contrast...which is great, in a different way
This version doesn't have either quality,,, so it's kinda boring.

I love this song! Even if it means absoloutley nothing lyric wise... How funny is the trumpet 'player' who never plays a thing! So hillarious!

Was this the Big Gig? The set looks REALLY familiar. I think TBG might have finished by the time this song came out though.
My Friend was an awesome band.

Compared to Morissey's cover, this version of the song seems a lot closer to Magazine's.

Why is Flacco carrying on like a tool during the song?... where's the funnies from that routine?

Howard Devoto should stop playing the trumpet and wrestle the singing duties back from Josh Homme.
