The Northern Pakistan region is very safe and it's isolated from the troubles of other provinces like North-West Frontier Province that borders Afghanistan and Punjab. Every year people from Western countries head to Pakistan for climbing and gliding in high mountains, the people of Northern Areas are very hospitable. You can search Google news for climbing expeditions on K2, Nanga Parbat etc

Addendum to my message, I had not watched the documentary when i was typing that message, the area where they filmed the Snow Leopard is near Chitral which is in NWFP but it's still farther North from the trouble region. Like the Pakistani journalist Nisar Malik said, Pakistan has a lot more to offer than what is mostly projected in the news, and those who go to Pakistan can testify how their experience was.

I'm Pakistani who has been living in the U.S for a while. I'm vacationing in Pakistan right now, and I was hoping to travel north to see the Snow Leopards in the national park by the beautiful Saif-ul-Malook lake. Already seen White tigers in a drive-thru safari here.

I've seen plenty of Caucasians here. Latinos look like us anyway. My Mexican friends want to travel to Pakistan with me someday. Travel guides here speak English but you'll have a better experience if you really know a local, imo.
