I used to go to this theater a lot in my early chilldhood when my family and I used to live in Frankfort. Saw a lot of good movies! Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Batman Forever, Austin Powers to name a few that I remember. I think the last movie I ever saw there was the first Spiderman movie in 2002 right before we moved out of Frankfort. I have fond memories of that theater, but Frankfort went downhill and the school system is horrible. I really just honestly hate that town...
If you were here in 1961 the theater at that time would have been the Roxy Theater which was located on south main st. downtown. There was also another one at that time I believe it was called the Clinton Theater. I am not for sure when the Clinton Theater was torn down but the Roxy was torn down in 1974 shortly after the Jerry Lewis Cinema opened which of course now is demolished.
Now Frankfort has no theaters, it is a dying town.
I lived there when I was 11, back in 1961-What was the name of the original movie theater in Franfort-It was only open Friday,Sat., and Sun. I thought I was going to go nuts downthere!
I am sure you will notice a lot of things different when you come back. Frankfort has a lot of problems right now. You will see for yourself once you get here.
I've been here 1000 times, I'm going to miss it...
The last couple that ran it (for the last 5 years or so) never smiled. We used to have a contest when we went to see if we could be VERY friendly and try to get them to smile or be friendly back. They NEVER did!!!
I wonder why it went out of business?
They run the drive in in Mechanicsburg and they are just as stoned face out there... too bad.
That's funny! I have heard other people say the same thing about the owners. I believe they closed the doors because their lease was up and the property management company raised their lease and the owners weren't going to pay it.
Basically greed is the reason it was closed. The property management company would rather let it set and rot than to let Frankfort have a theater.
