Where you run into problems is when you have mafia-type entities (e.g. gov'ts) manipulating markets, creating bubbles, recessions, surplues, etc. Free markets simply don't fail. The fact that the action of trade even exists proves it is beneficial to both parties. Where you run into problems is when you have mafia-type entities (e.g. gov'ts) manipulating markets, creating bubbles, recessions, surplues, etc. Free markets simply don't fail. I totally agree. There are people making efforts, getting up in the morning and working hard, and there are people who gamble and play with money at the stock exchange and do it as if it was a board game. But why is it like that? Because people were looking for ways to make profit with their stash of money that wasn't getting big enough. That's it. Simplified version. Maybe the lesson is: live with less and be happy.

Sorry guys, it's not about corruption. It's about pure capitalism. It's the derivatives that were too complex to understand that were sold, with "credit default swaps" to insure them, that had no cash backup that insurance needs. It's the government that bailed out the big guys who went on to give 11 billion dollars in bonuses out of bailout money (our tax dollars), and then last week at Goldman, did it again!!! It's the government not cracking heads when they did it. It's Capitalism at work.

Depends on what kind of Capitalism you are talking about. All governments are a balance of many elements. In some countries, you can earn a whole bunch of money, but only up to a certain point, and after that point you have to give back to society. The major problem we have in the USA is that corporations wield too much control over our government. Read a book called Corporation Nation. And the American west in the 1800s was VERY harsh living. You are idealizing that period.

I don't call Capitalism a "democracy," not at all. All economies are political. As far as the statement "Capitalism and democracy are incompatible" I would say that is highly accurate. No, it's not. It comes from Werner Sombart as a simplification of Marx's "capitalist mode of production." To Marx the definition of capitalism includes nothing about "no interference from the government." You can have full state ownership and still have capitalism under the Marxian definition because the defining relation of capital to labor can still exist.

I suggest you study the correlation of economic freedom with prosperity, if it is not obvious already. Europe, USA, Australia, Japan enjoy economic freedom, are they poor? China, India, South America, Africa have little economic freedom, are they rich? If you want to help the starving kids of Africa, get the bureaucrats off their backs and give them a sound judicial system that protects property rights so that farmers and small businesses can invest and grow.

In my opinion these newscasters are subtly trying to persuade the public to NOT see this film. Why should Micheal Moore have the answer to solving the financial crisis? He's a filmmaker not a financial expert and it's not his responsibility to suggest solutions to the crisis as one of the MSNBC commentators suggests (she suggests that he should have the solutions before making the film). These 4 people really have nothing to say.
