  • Supposedly, there are creatures that are pretty much babies, or baby dolls with spider limbs called Ubu.

  • i laughed when he said it in short hhahahahahahah

  • Hey, this was uploaded on my birthday :D!

  • i thought DV was dodge value, not defensive

  • what's this music from?

  • Is that music from HBO's Rome?

  • great stuff man! i love this game, it takes some commentary skill to make roguelikes be fun to watch. props!

  • horticulturist not horticulturalist

  • best ending ever

  • I looked into a mirror and said "Beetlebum, beetlebum, beetlebum" and my brothers head imploded. I never liked him anyway, looking back at it, I'm not even sure if I said it right.

  • You are just to fucking awesome.

  • I have just started, and rolled 2 characters... actually ahve not "stated" yet... my bad.

    ;)

I have stacked Ego for both.

my first is a Trueman... Primogen, priest of All Suns.

Second: Xepera, an interesting test Apostle. a triple unstable mutation, with ego projection.

The basic guiding principle is kind of like a "Chaos spawn"... Ill probably make a hardcore Artificer named "Nazax", but I am going to cut my teeth a bit, first.

Anyhow, thanks for the "lets play".

I'll let you know how it goes.

  • Joppa sounds like "Ass" in Russian

  • In this lets play, Jef uses what seems to be a world map to quick travel around, how do i open that and use it?

  • @GozaiFTW turn on num lock. press - on number pad to enter world map, press + to exit world map.

  • @MrLeftygod Thank you for this.

  • When I installed it it said that I couldn't run it from Program Files because I am not an administrator...

    I am an adminstrator...

  • @Misterspork57 Not to sound like a wise-ass, but did you right-click & select "Run As Administrator"? I didn't know to do that when I first got Win7.

  • @DaveInOCNJ I asked the same thing to PlumpHelmetPunk and he answered what you just said. It worked.

  • BEST end to a video ever!

  • Thumbs up if you got shoop da woop lazered by the warden when getting your first quest

  • Am I the only one that thinks that you sound like Matt Hardy?.

  • Gotta love them Rougelikes... The very first sort of open-wordlish games...

  • lol epic ending run run run run and its guna go BOOM

  • Jeff, what is the name/artist of the song you have in the background? I am loving the female vocal.

  • Well thanks, Jef, you just got me into another game. First Dwarf Fortress, then Stranded 2, and now this.

  • I've been hearing about this game for quite some time but never tried it myself. Your video finally conviced me to do it and holy crap, I dig the Fallout-y feel so much.

  • Do you get a tutorial with these "Rogue likes" or whatever they're called? Because this looks interesting.

  • @BIGTOAST75

This is probably the most easiest roguelike to play control wise.

The only tutorial you might need would be mutation builds or skill builds, but otherwise it's incredibly easy to play a certain style.

The game does get harder later on, and there are some creatures you REALLY don't want to get close with at all.

  • @BIGTOAST75

Play a game called DoomRL, or ADOM. As soon as you are in the world, press ? and it will tell you the controls.

  • This somehow seems incredibly boring.

Just, unlike dwarf fortress, you get so much crap at you, it's not fun when your just being endlessly besieged, and its not like where you shoot people and it's fun to shoot a billion people randomly appearing.

  • this game is amazing but i died straight away on my first try :(

  • This game is like a 1975 game only more complex. I imagine it would take a lot of playing to understand this game fully. It's fun to watch your let's plays, even though I don't find all the games amusing as Mount and Blade, I LOVED Dwarf Fortress.

I hope you remember meh when you get 100k subs.. which you will! :).

  • @PotatoMyWato Well, it is a roguelike. A game based on Rogue, a game that came out a few years after 1975. :) ASCII is hard to get used to, if you're used to games with graphics. But you should try. Roguelikes are fun.

  • How i rest in this fucking game?

  • Best ending to a video ever. Ever!

  • I laughed really hard at the box of crayons...

"I think these are really rare! Never found these before!"

"Oh, its a box of crayons! damit"

I've been playing this game as well, I really enjoy it. Some great humor.

  • You are now playing my favorite game. Have you found the glowpad merchant yet?

  • my GOD this game is system intensive ! Devs say it requires multicore processor +over 2GB of RAM. Expected nothing less from dotNET garbagecode.

  • if i dont have a numpad how could i play.... i just downloaded the game....

  • @oscarmbp Go to the settings and change the controls there. Not sure if you'll have enough spare keys on your keyboard, however.

  • 4:31 "LETS GET ON WITH IT" could that be a shot at Grimth

  • Yay for a Short Circuit reference! :)

  • You dealt 8 damage becouse the difference between armor and armor penetration counts as another hit dice when it's higher than 1. (I believe)

  • Run run run run run, that gonna go BOOM!

  • and how

  • is there a way to cook meat?

  • @armymanj @jebus99subej A game in the same spirit, game-play wise, as the classic game "Rogue". Hence, "Roguelike". Traditionally, roguelikes are difficult, turn-based, employ perma-death, and randomly generated terrains. For more standard examples, see POWDER or NetHack. Sometimes, like in COQ, the game employs ASCII graphics so the developer can skip worrying about graphics, and leave that up to the player. Other games (like POWDER) use crude tilesets to the same effect.

  • @dorino0net i have know idea what you just said but whatever its ok just nevermined thanks for replying though

  • @Easytoremembermember That is true, yes. It's not a very good roguelike, though.

  • whats rogue like mean :(

  • @armymanj Google knows all.

  • This game seems extremely interesting. I can't help but compare it to dwarf fortress adventure mode, and it's better in a number of ways. Dwarf fortress wins for Being able to hack off baby limbs and jam it into the mother's eye though. Or can this game do that too?

  • Do you have to start over again when you die?

  • I wish I was good with keyborad shortcuts so I could play rougelikes... I can only play Stonesoup successfully...

  • do bogeymen serve the same purpose here?

  • Sweet, a new Roguelike I can get into.

Thanks Jef! Your channel's showing me all the games that you'd never find on Steam. :P

  • YAY!

  • Heh, Bengal died by a bear, and you found bear meat. EAT IT, in revenge of bear eating Bengal!

  • It's great to see someone else's take on this game. Though after watching you and Plump I'm starting to think my insistence on playing multi-appendaged mutants who fart gas clouds, burst into flame for no reason, and die when something sneezes in my direction might not be the best idea.

  • and also YAY YOU BROUGHT BENGAL HAIRYBASEMENTS BACK!

  • jef...you need to play the original tomb raider one day.

  • (1+3)*2=8

  • I enjoy rogue-like games, but I always find the menu interfaces to be confusing.

  • woah, this game is awesome!

  • Who has been stabbing the campfire?

  • sweet! Jef plays Coq!

  • As a complete noob, I concur with the decision of picking Grenade Launcher. AOE Damage > Healing.

  • Comment removed

  • Did you just call Dwarf Fortress a roguelike? I'm ashamed.

  • @dorino0net what exactly is a rougelike?

  • @jebus99subej

Google Rogue like and read the wiki

  • @dorino0net

The adventurer mode of Dwarf Fortress is a roguelike, I thought, and that's the one Jef did a LP last.

  • Would you say this is easier to pick up then DF was? I kept trying DF based off your videos, and I could never get into it even with tilesets to tell me WTF I was looking at.

  • @Hawkster52 It is easier to pick up, but still relatively hard if you're new to the roguelike genre. DF isn't a roguelike, but the interface is in the same vein. If you'de like to try an introductory roguelike to get you familar with the controls and such, try POWDER

  • These rouge likes look like so much fun but I'm too lazy to learn what all the symbols mean and the controls and shit. I really need to get over that though cus, again, it looks fuckin awesome.

  • And im talking about Adventure mode, not Fortress mode :D

  • Im so excited for this LP. I like DF and all, but you did that as a newer LPer. No offense, that was a great LP (s). This one looks so awesome :CD

  • Wow. Wow wow wow. This game looks awesome. Thanks for introducing me to it. I LOVE fallout (the originals, of course, the new ones are teh sux lololol) and from that game I learned about a fantastic game called Wasteland (play it if you haven't! It's a classic!). This looks... damn, like the game I've been searching for for years. A decent, new, Post-Apoc RPG.

    Thank you!

  • Woah Jef, that bracelet looks obscene! I never even considered a job like horticulturist until seeing that. Awesome! Also you're less of a kleptomaniac than me at this. ):

Also, Instaheal injector isn't as GRENADE LAUNCHER as that. Also if you get enough instaheal injectors you can just disassemble them and hope you get lucky to make more of them, unlike grenade launchers, which are really hard to find.

  • no jef, all you have to say is grenade launcher :D

  • Oh you are doing THIS game as well. Very nice. And interesting. And nice. And interesting. You get my drift. My jellyfish drift. Jellyfish drift, don't they? I believe the answer to that question is yes. Or is it? But anyways, yeah, looking forward to seeing this go on.

  • I've never plated a rogue-like game before, but thanks to you I think I may have a newfound love of them.

  • Any texture packs?

  • i shall camp out in this LP in waiting for mass effect!

  • Awesome.

  • This is not the kind of game let's play that would work without commentary lol.

  • Is this like fallout but in dwarf fortress mode

  • Nice video.

I actually had this for a while, but couldn't figure it out, this helped a bit.

  • Yay! Jef already uploaded! Nothing better than watching some lets plays done by one F jef!

  • This game looks awesome!

  • Greenaaadelaauncher!

  • what the hell, i love you ;D this is soo nostalgic to mee :D

  • Drams/drachms were historically both coins and weights in the Greek and Roman empires; attaching "dram" to water is a nice touch to show how valuable water would be in a post-apocalyptic environment.

I've never before seen this game. It looks more user-friendly than Dwarf Fortress, although ASCII games seldom aim for "ease-of-use through-lovely-interface." It took long enough for you to get on with the gameplay, though, jef. Gosh, haven't you heard of how to get on with it!? (rofl rofl rofl)

  • @GrimithR Well it's quite close to ADOM, much closer than to DF :P. But the overworld map and quests in different places as well as stuff like rare wanderers and caravan routes are awesome and remind me of DF or Fallout :).

  • @Deon023 So... you replied to me and refuted nothing I said? That's cool. I like it when people agree with me. Carry on, citizen.

  • @GrimithR Why should I disagree? You just told that you haven't played it and I told you how do I look upon this game :P. Nothing wrong for me.

  • Sounds to me that mutant would be a more interesting choice.

  • @antary90 Mutants are really hard to start. They have much lower stats and they get less skillpoints, so it's mostly LOTS of grind before you become good; so it's actually more interesting to watch true humans because they see more action early.

  • Who was the person that made the videos you watch? Can you tell me his username so I can watch his videos, too?

  • @noobtoob100 Plumphelmetpunk

  • @patq911 Oh, thanks. Couldn't understand him say that.

  • @noobtoob100 PlumpHelmetPunk. I'll put a link in the description! He taught me everything I know. *sniffle*

  • @jefmajor No, Jef, no. Dashing good looks cannot be taught.

  • @jefmajor you really need to learn how to say folk correctly.

  • @jefmajor Represent! What! What? I got lucky and learned about Plump via X3. Added him to my feature list within an hour. I dont add without a ton of deliberation either, he joins the ranks of Yale, movie soundtracks and the mediacommand...

    ;P

That said, Sub's Fav'd FR'd and generally, respected.

    TY4TU

  • @jefmajor U kno whats odd Jef? instead of finding plump by u i found u by plump!

  • @perplemunkeeez it's in the name, a game thats like the game rogue

  • Im sorry for being a pain but could somebody tell me what a roguelike is?

  • @perplemunkeeez

It's a game that takes it's design philosophy from the 80's game rogue, hence roguelikes, they're like the game rogue.

  • @Deeack thanks

  • My god. those roguelikes are so damn entertaining and full of fantastic content. I wish the big industry would strive for that freedome and detail. I'm allways part excited and part sad when I read about or watch content in this format. :(

I wish gaming wouldn't focus so much on months of production for a fifty second FPS intro in a setting you never get to play or visit or even prerendered stuff, and spend their time in developing amazing stories and mindbending worlds. *sigh*

  • hey caves of qud ya livestreamed this!

  • noo! i loaded the whole video and flash crashed.

    dicks!

    DICKS!

    reloading video. :(

  • I don't know about you jef, but I usually associate things reaching out and touching me with paedophiles, not lovers.

  • @matejschejbal Well you see back in the day games used to employ the players "imagination" instead of vomiting thousands of HDR lens flares in your fa-- Uhh, you know what, nevermind. Hey, look, Machinima affiliates just released 10 billion more Black Ops videos! Why don't you go check those out instead, K?

  • @jefmajor

Of course a comment you make gets 69 thumbs up in one day. And that is why we love you.

    -The Baron

  • @jefmajor Oh no, Jef... those Xbox gamers you're always talking about finally found your channel. RUN FOR IT!

  • @jefmajor

it's not like he wasn't interested.. just asked for some explanation. I've got problems understanding these kind of games myself, but it's ok.. got some imagination left somewhere around here.

  • @jefmajor

Jef, I have a sinking feeling all the Mass Effect people DID find your videos. We are doomed!

  • @matejschejbal The game is about a adventurer exploring around. The symbols you see stand in for creatures and items you will find. The @ symbol is Jef's character. it really is hard to get at first.

  • @matejschejbal bengel is the moving @ sign.

  • @matejschejbal you know games, maybe you should play a bigger variety of them, rather than playing blaco ops for your whole life it might help

  • This game is confusing :( I'd like to understand it.

  • @Kangur08 You are a guy who starts in Joppa. Joppa is in Qud, I think. there is a camel-man trader you can give stuff to and get stuff from, a farmer, a mumbling tinkerer, and a leader person, with monsters most everywhere else.

  • Ugh.I have tons of homework,but a Jef's video? can't wait

  • i got the "no disassemble no" quote

  • yay! caves of qud been looking forwards to this since your announcement

  • these games sound look and feel awesome but then i try them and im like, shit this is hard, i really love when you play all those rouguelikes for me

  • lol i thought the same thing about the gonk option the second i saw it :D

  • just downloaded, fucking awensome.

  • Nice music in the background Jef, it's from HBO's Rome isn't it? :-D

  • @LordsOfTheGreenLeaf Some if it is. It's a mixture of Bear McCreary's work on the BSG soundtrack and Jeff Beal's work on the Rome soundtrack mixed with a couple of Loreena McKennit songs. It'll be the playlist I use for the rest of the series.

  • @jefmajor woot for Loreena McKennit! is she still around? i remember it being like 1997 or something when i got a cd of hers... Loved one her songs.. something to do with the highway man!

  • could you find any grafic texture pack thingy so theres not so much black an cant see whats goin on..

  • "Run run run run run run that's gonna go BOOM!"

    -One F Jef

  • @JelLoSnArK One F Jef?! THAT'S WHAT HE SAYS? OH MAN. THANKYOU. Every video I try to hear what he's saying, and could never make out what was said. Onnep jef? One Up jef? Cut up jef?... it all makes sense now

  • Why was 0:08 so funny?

  • I've never played this so I'm not sure, but I would think that a gas mask would make you immune to gas grenades.

  • I wish that games like this had graphics and not symbols... I'm sorry, but it is VERY CONFUSING for me. :(

  • :)

  • :)

  • Ah, I want to play the first two Fallout games now...

Also, this games seems awesome, but I doubt I'd be able to play it. I was absolutely shit at DF. T_T

  • Best 5 bucks I've ever spent.

  • I love CoQ

  • @chungman212

I can stay on with this when jef is commentating it.

  • Lol, this is..unique.. didnt expect this .

  • Caves of CUM! :D

  • 0:09 Yay Jef. I mean, I am sure developers spent endless nights developing a name which would abbreviate to "coq" :). You have to pay them tribute and call the game "coq" in the beginning of each video :).

  • Oh god, take my babies Jef :D
