  • Hey Dan, I actually have this same bike in blue I believe it's a 95 would you be able to do pretty much the same thing to it? I can drive it down and pay you. its my first bike and I'd really love to Bob it out. If your interested please let me know vgunedge@gmail.com

  • No problem man!! Really nice bike though!!!

  • Sounds bitchin!!! The exact style i woulda went for if i had an intruder.. Would have put ape hangers on it though!!! :-)

  • @Kierandar1234 thanks for the comment, can never go wrong with ape hangers.............

  • Nice job! I'm looking for something like that till I get a harley.. How did it ride with those struts? thanks

  • @SanEverett thanks for the comment, it didnt ride as rough as it looks. The most I rode it in one day was 400 miles and my back felt it the next day.

  • @SanEverett

I have a 2003 1400 Suzuki intruder (Stock) and a beautiful 2005 customized Harley. I love them both but the Suzuki probably gets more compliments and it never has had to be taken to the shop. Love them both for what they are and enjoy the ride.

  • got a question for you did you reaplace the rear airbox with a cone filter and what about the front airbox? im wondering what to do with the rear airbox any tips? i have a 97 800, nice bike btw

  • @vaspan123 thanks for the comment. because everything was so tight, i installed open element foam air cleaners on the front and the rear. the bike ran ok, but really needed to be jetted richer at this point, a lot more air was flowing into it than before, but i sold the bike and told the new owner he should jet the bike richer.

  • @InfinityDan yea that is exactly my problem need the room because of that ignition box that was under the passenger seat needs to be relocated. was wondering if i could just have a open element on the rear only?

  • @vaspan123 i didnt remove the front neck covers in the initial job, so the front carb still had the air box with the rear having the foam cleaner, it still ran strong, but did backfire some times. in my second video, the neck covers are removed and the front carb has a foam cleaner. if you ride it a lot and have a foam cleaner just in the rear, the rear carb probably should be rejetted richer. i have a vulcan 2000 and didnt ride this much, was more of a project than anything.

  • Hi Dan. I have a buddy who is looking at Intruders and I didnt get too excited till I saw yours, its really sharp. I admire the work youve done. He has his eye on a 1400, and I have to say, that kind of motor on a bobber would make for one badass little scoot, no doubt. I hope he goes for it, I think hes got the vision and love of bikes to make a real nice ride for himself.

  • @toobie11 thanks for the comment, people either love it or hate it. i sold it last year for the $2500.00 i had into it. the intruder 1400 is an awesome motorcycle.

  • tough to do work on an intruder as far as I can tell I had an 805... now a days you can buy fork extentions for the front to stretch out the stock rake that it already has, I never thought anyone would mess with the rear end of an intruder just for the trouble that you had here with this one...good job

  • @dscott333 yes, it was a good 10 hour day of welding

  • Very nice work,i just got a 700 intruder I'm planing to do the same

  • Nice Project . Great bike to use aswell

  • @terence20001 thanks for the comment

  • Why make it a hardtail???

  • absolutelly cool, great job, where is a seat for FEMALE admirer ???

  • @mauipetr Thanks for the comment. This bike was designed with only the rider in mind, no passengers allowed!

  • so why have a sissy bar?

  • @pnh6999 brake light and plate mount, just for looks

  • @InfinityDan Hey buddy nice bike! I'm dying to get an intruder period, anything above 500cc. Im down here in Ft. Lauderdale. Where and how did you get a 1400 Intruder in Florida? I just really want one, I love the tank shapes on these Suzukis better than the Honda Shadows. Thank you!

  • @TheMichaelCollazo Thanks for the comment, I found this at a local dealer, I sold it last year. If I wanted to buy another I would look on craigslist. It shouldn't be too hard to find one. I have owned 2, a 805 and 1400, the 805 was my wife's bike. Both are the same bike with different motors.

  • nice! I have a 99 that for some reason the battery goes dead, where should i start? new battery already.

  • @bmetstud thanks for the comment, the next step you should look at is a bad alternator/stator, the battery may not be getting charged while you are riding.

  • @InfinityDan sure will, thanks.

  • Very good job, I admire people who do this sort of thing.

Since my power I'd like to know about it and get a bike to my liking.

    Congratulations

  • @Orceus thanks for the comment

  • @Orceus

When my Harley has 40% Japanese parts, what's the difference. . other than the Japanese bikes are well made, they are fast in comparison and can be bought used for a lot less. A great way to go, unless you are so hung up on having to have the Harley name. . which does not mean as much to me as it used too!

  • @74LesPaul you are so right buddy i love bikes from everywhere else in the world it is important who you are and what you are doing i am not a poser to need to get a dresser harley and show the public here i got money and i am a fucked up poser no i am riding two bikes a yamaha XS 65 (triumph t 100 clone) AND THE BIG BOMBER A VULCAN 1500 classic in silver/black flames paint both awesome bikes and affordable no need to kill someone or to robber a bank to get a harley sure i love harleys too

  • @aphasia1972

I used to be hung up on the Harley thing having ridden my lowered and hopped up Road King for 7 years. But I cut my teeth on Japanese bikes and always missed the lighter weight bikes. I eventually got to the place where it does not matter what I ride, as long as it fits me. This gives a lot of freedom to ride better made machines with over head cams. Although I will say that Harley Davidson quality has drastically improved after 1984.

  • Where did you get those drag bars

  • @Renner2121 J&P Cycles in Daytona, I don't have a model number, but should be able to find them in the intruder section of the catalog.

  • You did some really great work here. I wonder what I can do with my volusia intruder...

  • @smalltalkingchicken thanks for the comment, keep me posted on your project

  • got a new video up of the marauder check it out!!!!

  • good work but i dont like the sound from the intruder that much but nice ride buddy

  • very awsome idea with the fender to cover the ugly hole in the frame. where did you pick up a fender that wide though

  • @andrew0901280 I'm not sure I understand the question, I removed the fenders, do you mean the springer seat?

  • @InfinityDan ya my bad i commented way before the video got goin. i was comenting on the original fender and how it covered the ends of the frame. i later in the vid relized it was factory. but very nice end result. ps try drilling out the secondaries to get it to run better thats what i had to do with mine

  • @andrew0901280 Hopefully the new owner will read your suggestion, he has the video link, I sold this last month for lack of use, I didn't want stuff to start dry rotting, so I sold it.

  • fajnie gadasz

  • thats cool, a cheap and quick way to get a neat looking bobber ! thnx.

  • awesome bike. i cant believe your budget on this bike!! i am so jealous right now

  • thanks for the comment

  • Looking real good there.

    Nice bike.

  • thanks for the comment

  • I thought I noticed a green Christmas tree stand while the camera was panning around. Want to sell it?

Is that a Walmart brand or something less

    sorry, just kidding

  • I'll sell the tree stand for $3000.00 and throw the bike in for free.

  • @InfinityDan

I don't think the bobber would fit in the tree stand, but if it did you wouldn't have to do it for free, I'd pay at least three dollars to see that

  • should have stopped with the walmart humor, you were ahead of the game at that point, this one was reaching!

  • @InfinityDan

Maybe so. No harm done though

  • you really want to sell it?

  • @sexybps it is for sale. I plan on parking it on Daytona Main Street on Bike Week this year with a for sale sign, unless you want to come pick it up before then.

  • that sounds way better than I thought it would. Sounds like a single pin crank motor. I thought it would sound crappy like the VTX1800 does, but it don't. Good job.

  • thanks, the 1994 1400 motor does use a single pin crank setup, that and the sawed off pipes make the sound.

  • How did you relocate the start button? Do you still have to hold the clutch in?

  • I rerouted the switch wires on the frame under the tank to the side. The clutch safety switch has been eliminated, so the clutch doesn't have to be held to start, but I do it anyway out of habit.

  • Shaft drive rigid?

Are you not afraid of the diff casing cracking under stress from heavy acceleration?

Ive wanted to bob a couple of the shaft drives that I have had, but have always stayed clear.

  • actually got this idea from seeing several other solid intruders, have not heard of any trouble yet.

  • My advise, back wheel cover with plate, whatever serves no purpose. Remove.. Less is more.. nice bike though......

  • i wasn't going for a sissy bar with the original idea, but ended up putting one on there for a place to mount the brake light and plate.

  • thanks man. looks great

  • thanks for the comment

  • what did you use for the rear struts to make it a hardtail?

  • 3/4" steel

  • Nice build. Look's good.That big V twin look'd brill.

  • thanks for the comment

  • No prob's . It can be costly doing a build like this. You done well.

  • Beautiful job

  • thanks for the comment

  • Damn, not bad at all for 2500~

  • thanks for the comment

  • честно говоря не очень получилось....

  • Это определенно не для каждого, но спасибо за комментарий!

  • you need a rear fender

  • good job m8!!! look awesome!

  • sweet pipes. what kind are they

  • that is a jardine exhaust, it comes staggered, but i was wanting a short stubby shotgun look so i cut them even right after the mounting bracket.

  • oh alright. looks good.

  • you did a great job with what you had to work with... better than my Hardly bobber from back in the early 90s (using an 86 Virago). if it weren't for that hideous pipe wrapping around the jugs, it'd be a different matter.

  • thanks for the comment, actually the pipe wrapping ended up coming off in the follow up video, i decided not to wrap them at all, better look.

  • absolutely Godly! I have on 02 intruder 800 that I wanna chop up a little, nothing too much, I just wanna take the bitch seat out, chop the rear fender about half way, I WANTED to put a side mounted plate, didn't know they were illegal in florida though....so I guess I'll have to do something different. also wouldn't mind some extended forks but I'm not sure if I wanna put that much money into it.

  • thanks for the comment, if you need a welder i recommend my friend brian in the video, let me know how it turns out.

  • P.S. i love your bike it looks great

  • thanks, don't know frame head tube size, either way sounds like some welding will come into play, metalman111111 is on my friends list, he was the welder in the video, he could answer welding questions for you, or if you live in florida, he could do the job.

  • iam about to start a bober project and i was wondering if you knew what size head tube intruders have also i was wondering if i could convert my swing arm (1990 750 intruder) to a 1400 swing arm for the disc brakes and 170 tire?

  • don't know the size of the tube, bought mine with a jardine exhaust installed on it. i'm sure you could convert a swing arm from a 1400 on a 750, but probably wouldn't be cost effective, like the previous comment, you could probably buy a late 80's 1400 for as much money as a swing arm conversion might be, could be wrong. keep me updated on your project. dan.

  • i ment the frame head tube (sorry i should have clarified) i want to add a DNA springer but i dunno what size will fit hey thanks for all the info man!!!

  • i picked up a 1986 intruder 700 with 8k miels that runs great for $1000 .....good or bad deal for me?

  • i think it's a good deal, that's the thing with these metric cruisers, that 86 has for the most part bottomed out on depreciation, you could ride it for 5 years or so, keep it in good shape, and probably sell it for what you paid for it, unless you do something crazy like cut it up and weld the hell out of it..........................

  • or throw a rod threw the crankscase like i did today..............took the engine apart and the rod is the size of a twig....i've owned every type of motorcycle make suzuki kawasaki honda yamaha etc and yamaha is the only one that has given me no problems.........tip for everyone only get yamahas

  • that would be enough to ruin your day

  • Hey man, just a quick question since I'm reall y new to all this...

Why swap it over to a hard tail? Is it just for the lower stance? Would it take away from the ride or handling at all?

  • a hard frame setup gives it an old bobber look with the springer seat and also lower stance, that is as low as a intruder will go without really cutting up the frame, the lowest shocks available are still higher than our struts we welded in. it does take away from the ride, handling not so much. thanks for the comment.

  • Thanks

  • Lovely bike! :o)

  • thanks for the comment

  • Howdy all

this is Brian the guy who did the welding modifications on the intruder

    the comments are appreciated

not a bike guy but 31 yrs fabrication and Dan's directions with some of my own

    and it's a hard tail!!

    Good luck all ride safe!

    B

  • Hey man. I've got a 94 intruder and looked everywhere for those bars. No luck though. Can you help me out. I went on J & P like you said still nothing.

  • I live in near J&P in Daytona, so I was able to buy them on site, don't know what they are, but from the website I found bars called Baron Radius Drag Bar, these look like the bars on my bike, comments won't let me post a link, so I'll send it in email.

  • Whats it like riding that thing with no rear fender? oh and how easy was it changing your bars, all the controls and shit run inside em

  • no fender sucks when you get stuck in surprise rain, other than that its cool, the bars bolted right on and i used the stock controls, the horn and turn signals are gone so the only wire i fed through was for the brake lights, it was a bitch to feed through.

  • One of the coolest looking Intruder 1400 Ive ever seen! Many thumbs up! I would've been mighty proud if that bike was mine!

  • thanks for the comment, i'm making a final video probably post soon, added an oil tank under the seat and opened up more frame work.

  • Nice! Gonna check it out. You know, we have the same gastank. It the special edition =) I have a vid on my bike as well. Gonna make better ones this summer!

  • i was wondering how you slam the ass end you take out the springs and put a solid pipe on it awesome

  • thanks, i've seen people bolt in pipe in place of shocks, we went a step further and welded it. we put a 1/8" spacer inbetween the top and bottom frames and made with pipe lengths off that.

  • Sharp lookin bike, the only thing I'd do different is use and Inline 4, like a Maxim or something close to it. Anyway, good job!

  • thanks, there actually are a few inline 4 bobbers on youtube, can't go wrong either way.

  • Nice bike man good job..

  • thanks

  • I have a '93 Intruder that I have been building since the fall of last year. It is completely custom. The only things used from the original bike are the engine, driveshaft, wheels and radiator. We just got it running last week and will be following up with some video soon here on you tube. Stay tuned....

  • cool, post a video response of your bike when it's done. seems like intruders were made to be customized, the yamaha virago is a good project bike also. both bikes already have a good rake angle for being a stock bike.

  • Your right. Intruders were already nice looking bikes but with just a little customizing they really are sharp. I think mine was the last year they had the 21" front tire and the 15" rear tire if I'm not mistaken. I'm using a head light from a '32 Ford and a tombstone tailight from an early model Harley. We have custom fabricated the exhaust and plan to heat wrap them for looks and performance.

  • Finally got some video posted of bike in the rough rolling and running stage. We still have to build a few misc. parts and break it back down for finish welding etc. It's under 93' Suzuki Intruder Bobber project bike 1,2,and 3, so far.

  • Great job,I will try to do this on my intruder, only with ape handlebar and still thinking where to put the back turnsignals.

Where did you get the handlebar grips?

  • thanks, got the grips ,sissy bar and handlebars from j&p cycles in daytona beach. post a video response with your bike when it is done.

  • How long are your rear struts?

  • The left side is 8 1/2" and the right side is 10 1/4", the shock mounts are at offset lengths. We put a 1/4" spacer inbetween the top and bottom frame, dropped it without shocks and measured the struts off that. Without the 1/4" space, the bike bottomed out easy over small bumps.

  • Damn, I have a stupid bad lower back, so a rigid is probably not the best idea. Do you know where to get one of these lowering kits for an 800, the only ones i could find are ones for volusias. thanks!

  • How did you make it a rigid? Is the ride significantly bumpier on shitty roads? I would like to do that with mine. Also, could you lower the back and still keep it a softail without a lowering kit, and if so how?

  • we removed the entire rear suspension and welded in steel to make it rigid, it is actually comfortable, but a hard ride, riding over a recessed manhole hits hard. it's an in-town motorcycle. after about 60 miles you have to rest your ass for 15-30 minutes. but i did it for a cool look, not for comfort. there are short shock kits out there that would lower it from stock, but not close to how lower this bike is. keep me posted on your project.

  • Very very cheap

  • Where in Florida do you live? I would love to see this in person on the road.

  • orlando, a group of us are going to biketoberfest this weekend, plan on being at the olsteen diner at 9-9:30am for breakfast then to daytona, let me know if you will be there.

  • I thought JP cycles sounded familiar (used to live in Apopka). Naw, I don't think i'll be there. I have nothing going on, so i'll see.

  • Hey I sent a comment on the other bike in responce to the one you sent me. All jokes aside thats a good job. the bike looks good. I just aded struts to my Sportster like the ones you put on.

  • thanks, yeah the vulcan is mine also, loud pipes aren't for everyone, but i like them.

  • NICE JOB ! she turned out well!

  • thanks

  • Most excellent video! It really answered a lot of questions for me so I don't have any for you. I'm at the starting point on a 79 GS425. It isn't much but all I have. I've seen guys bob a 350 and 400 so I figure what the heck. Love the forward controls. I do think I'm gonna have to manufacture most of what I need though.

  • Sounds like a good project bike, let me know how it turns out.

  • Wow First off super nice video! The step by step photos with the talking at the end was perfect. Im actually new to all of the bike world. Im finally at the age where im responsable enough to own a "toy" like this one. I was planning on buying a sportster but my cousin who lives on bike said to buy a honda or a suzuki to learn on first. IM thinking he's right but my question is was this something you planned on doing or was it a build as you go project.

  • Thanks for the comment, it will be cheaper to learn on a used honda then a harley just in case you go down. A sportster is a top heavy bike, might not be good to learn on, but everyone is different. I have a friend who modified a vulcan 1500, not this far, but it made me want to do the same thing. I had the idea in my head with the solid rear suspension and springer seat, and we made it up as we went along. I'm doing some more stuff to it now, I'm going to post those pics when I'm done.

  • beautiful job i just got my hands on a 86 800cc intruder and i am going to do almost the same thing but with drag bars

  • thanks, send some pictures when its done. the wife had a 800 intruder once, the bikes are the same frame wise so the exact thing i did with my 1400 could be done to a 800.

  • I'd like to do a 1400 like that they are real torque monsters I want to go a little more extreme though but nice job

  • i've seen alot of more extreme versions, good thing about an intruder is the front forks already have a good 'chopper' angle to begin with.
