THANK YOU for this excellent clip. its interesting to look at this in a musical history sense. this piece originated after world war one, and has been covered continually ever since. to review it in context, pull up the versions chronologically. bing crosby, louis armstrong, then louis prima who rearranged it into a big band / early rock piece. then david lee roth. seen in this perspective, mr brega spun it latin / mambo and BLEW IT UP with great style and feel, contiuing a great legacy. thanks

Personally I'm not too big on this version. It's heavier on the gigolo part. less on the 'So sad and lonely' part. I thought the original was supposed to be more remorseful that he's a gigolo. But in this one is sound more like he' happy to be a gigolo (Cos' being a 'Pimp' in todays society is 'cool') so the lines "I ain't got nobody," and "I'm so sad and lonely" have no value.

honestly it's not a bad version; and I respect ol' lou bega for sticking to mambo and latin even after the whole big band thing's faded from the 90's. And really; Artemis is right, I highly doubt Lou asks for any real seriousness with this song. He's a party mambo guy, not frickin' John Lennon.

Either way... The best version is by Preservation Hall, not Louis Prima...

David did this song better than ANYONE, except for the original by Louie Prima. Search for Louie Prima on this one. There are several versions of the Louie Prima version and he changes it every time. You'll have to take potluck on it though, because many of his versions are a little crazy.
