Mesmers were technically support characters in the EARLY stages of Guild Wars. They have always been great characters in the PvP arena. However, I disagree with what was said about Mesmers being disadvantaged in PvE. With the introduction of PvE skills and EotN mesmer skills (along with the changes to Fast Casting), Mesmers have become quite capable characters in the PvE world. Mesmers make up an integral part of high level farming areas like DoA, especially in DoA Speed Clears. Mesmers rock!
@Ihavedamagedhair Yeah I've started to figure out some new ways to play the mesmer and they are quite capable in PVE. The rock indeed. :) Thanks for watching.
Hmm....this would be the first game where I'd be partial to all classes(GW1 not included). I definitely want to roll a thief, but a mesmer too...so the final decision would be which to roll first....
do you guys think that it will be really hard to tell who's the player and who's the clone? i mean, it will look the same and all BUT. 1) it will have less health.. so that's the first clue to look at. 2) it's not like the clone will be casting the same things that the real mesmer.. so probably we'll be able to recognize a clone acording to it's behavior?... and finally... how long do u think that the cooldown for the clones ability will be? D:
@bioteko Well that's the whole trick. If they've been watching other games, they'll see that they need to do something about the health bars and other details like that to make them truly believable. The player can also try to act like a bot in order to further sell the illusion. If they do it right, it can lead to some amazing gameplay. But we'll need to wait and see.
Honestly can't wait to give Mesmer a spin as my first character.. I definitely want to try out Guardian as well, but Mesmer will be the first I think. Reason being:
I played an Illusionist in EQ2 and nothing ever came close to that class in any other MMO. Mesmer seems to have the same type of mechanics (Crowd Control + Damage dealer) and requires that you sacrifice one for the other and try to find a balance for each in every situation. If it fails, I have Guardian to fall back on.
I love how people are qq'ing about classes being OP, and nerfs... This isn't WoW where blizzard fails at everything and people qq to them and blizzard is like, okay... the children can't take down content, lets make it easier... A guy did an interview with Izzy, he explains how he balances, and how they play the game so frequently that they're always tweaking every class so no class isn't stronger than the other. You may now proceed to qq about my post, good day.
So here is a question for you that I have posted to other youtubers. I know it is a little to early as the skills for the Mesmer have not come out yet, but based on what you have seen, if you had to pick just one collar class, what one would you pick in GW2 and why?
@jasondanielis I'd probably lean towards the elementalist at this point. Big flashy effects and tons of gameplay potential with the four attunements. How about you?
@bogotter I am torn between the Necro and Mesmer. Necro for the survivability, be it life stealing abilities and second life bare in death shroud, and Mesmer for its tricky game play and ability to mess with the heads of other players. Thanks for the reply.
Nice job making a fool of yourself. Currently Mesmer are the most OP class in GW1 with armor ignoring damage out of their ass and AoE hexes that can be maintained with ease thanks to the fast casting buff. I'd like to hear other peoples opinions on the two games if they actually took the time to keep informed about their updates.
@nsenger2011 I'm sorry if one comment in a 16:41 minute video invalidates everything else I said. I said tackling the toughest PVE content with a mesmer WAS about as much fun as stapling bagels to your face. Not sure how an opinion like that can be construed as wrong or inaccurate but I also made a point of stating "was" meaning in the past. A lot of research goes into making these videos and I am in fact human. I'm quick to point out mistakes I've made, but I don't think this is one of them.
Mesmer been a flag profession in all GW1 expensions. It was unavoidable to see mesmer in GW2. As mesmer sucked in pve (before latests up-dates), mesmers was everyone's nighmare in pvp... like you see a mesmer; you run away as fast you can xD It's fantastic that they made them strong and easier to use in GW2 :)
@SuperCoraxo I ran a 5 mesmer hero build in pve and i got legendary vanquisher. They are without a doubt the strongest class in pve. Armor ignoring aoe dmg, Aoe interrupts (panic), aoe blind , run a 5 mesmer hero build with some discord necros and you feel liker iding a rollercoaster in pve..
@badkuipx If you played mesmer since years, you'd know what i talked about. Mesmers always been great threats in pvp (backfire, empathy, debuff, degen, interupts etc.), but in pve they was'nt the best class, not enaugh "punch", till "lately". They been boosted fortunatly. Many actual builds working with mesmer skills, it's a proof that mesmers do have a great potential. Before, in GW1, to be a good mesmer needed talent, now it's easy and i think it'll be even easier to play it in GW2. D= and =D
As for the Mesmer I hope Anet doesn't water down the class just for the sake of accessibility. But with the removal of energy from the game and thus proper energy management is no longer a requirement for skilled playing, I'm very doubtful.
@toastisimo The ranger pets are the most permanent type of pet class, but Necros have a number of different minions they can summon and they get skills to control them a bit as well. The interviews made the mesmer's pets seem even more temporary and without the ability to control them much. We'll know more when we see the skills.
i don't think the mesmer will be that hard to play, because all the skills inherently already do something (whether that be damage or conditions) but the high skill ceiling is there because there are a lot of options on how to effectively use them.
Well from what i've seen most of the classes are already like this but i do agree there will be a bigger difference between a good mesmer and a 'noob' mesmer than with the differences that might be seen otherwise.
Great video as always! Relating to what you were saying about the great sword, I remember in an interview that it is actually used for ranged damage strangely enough. Like the damage of the laser in the portal video is based on how far the mesmer is from the target.
The mesmer is no longer a poor choice for PvE in GW1. They have become so effective at shutting entire groups down that some groups will actually Require one! Panic on its own has become a powerful control mechanic and mistrust a powerful damage spell. Along with a few other support skills like Stolen speed which gives a heavy caster team a powerful advantage. I personally use a fragility mesmer with a condition team. its loads of fun.
@DemonOfMyMind It still has a steeper learning curve than many of the other classes in GW1. So I'm going to stick with the whole "Staple French Toast to my face" theory. :P Thanks for watching. What's your mesmer PVE build?
@bogotter My mesmer actually requires a team to preform optimally. If the team isn't build for conditions then she does poor with that build. But I do have others. The line up looks like this though [Necrosis] [Fevered Dreams] [Fragility] [Phantom Pain] ["You move like a dwarf!"] [Drain Delusions] [Ether Feast] [Signet of Corruption]. I have a rather slow internet connection so interruption isn't really an option for me. So a few skills are used for energy. But I have loads of fun with it.
@bogotter I'm also a Magic the Gathering player and my favorite color combo is Blue/black. So the mesmer feels right at home with me. Other builds I use are the ever popular Panic builds, Stolen Speed, Signet builds, Shared burden, Energy Surge and on rare occasions Vision of Regret. Yes I know most these are skills. But they also tell you what the build does.
@DemonOfMyMind I wouldnt solo farm with a mesmer using mesmer skills, but they are realy good for interupting the enemys high damage skills/spells so they are frequently added mercs/heroes. =)
@toastisimo Not usually. But I have seen a few mesmer builds farming builds. They are a bit tricky to use though. You need to be able to manage your energy while maintaining your enchants as well. But its possible. I don't like to farm at all. I did it for a while and after I got what I wanted I tried farming again and asked my self why I was doing it. So I stopped farming because it was no fun. So I only do things on GW that are fun for me. Because that is what a game is for.
@DemonOfMyMind Your absolutly right, its not fun! (something Collin stated in the GW2 manifesto) you just force yourself thru it when you want something special in the end of it, usualy some unique armor.. =)
@toastisimo I got all the elite Necromancer armor in GW1. So that is really all I wanted. I still play GW1. I do some daily quests and some events. I've also been doing some dungeons with WoodenPotatoes. So I still have plenty of fun. :)
