  • Genius. It might not be as classic as pull ups or push ups, but the only other way I could imagine working biceps without using weights would be doing upside down bicep curls where the bar is stationary and you're lifting your bodyweight. o.O

  • is there a way to exercise lats on the floor like this?

  • Ingenious! Thank you :)

  • thank you

  • No offense, but this is just to complicated. If you want nice biceps, get a pull up bar, a barbell or curl bar, and some dumbells. Do pull ups for biceps, barbell rows, dumbell rows, hammer curls, and seated curls. Resting five minutes after each excercise.

  • @WackyZacky1000 Honestly, it's not that complicated... maybe you say that because of what he said of "focus on the bicep and not the abdomen", which I don't agree. You just have to put EXACTLY in that position and lift yourself up like a side-sit up. What you will get is a composed exercise, you work abdominal muscles AND biceps (try it, you will work biceps even if you try to use your abdomen). IMO this is better, you work more muscles in one exercise, just like push ups (triceps, chest, etc)

  • @WackyZacky1000 I don't think it's complicated at all. I'm lying in bed and managed to do one whilst half asleep. The advantage of this sort of thing is that it requires no equipment so can be done anywhere or by those of us who are genuinely in such a poor financial state that a pull up bar is prohibitively expensive.

  • I've never seen this before. It is a great body weight exercise, thank you!

  • Kudos to you! As I'm getting up there in years (51), I recently decided to switch to bodyweight training to save my joints and focus on functional strength. I have a pullup bar, but I've been searching for a true no-equipment biceps exercise. I was skeptical at first, but this exercise works for me. Thanks!

Another approach would be to try the old Charles Atlas "Dynamic Tension" method, whereby you would use one arm to provide resisrance to the other. Not as effective, but better than nothing.

  • innovative . . .yes, but less effective than the chin up

  • cool. this is the only bicep exercise I've ever seen with no equipment whatsoever. Very creative.

  • rather use weights

  • Been looking for a bicep exercise for years. Amazing. Just you and the floor. Thanks dude.

  • dam this shit works it brns man

  • nice tip, great video, thanks

  • whoah shit. too be honest this is hard to understand to do it correctly. but i felt alot of press on my biceps. thank you so very much!!!!!

  • this is the push up for biceps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 1)For some reason this is not a very enjoyable exercise. It just doesn't feel very good doing it.

2)No matter how much I try NOT to use my obliques, I end up using them somehow anyway, even if only a little. I just cannot see any way to do this 100% using only my biceps.

3)It seems like the muscle is only working on the way up. On the way down, my obliques come into play even if I don't want them to.

4)Maybe part of the problem is that I am just too weak to do this exercise?

  • @ibex333 are you sure your doing it right? cuz i know what you mean i felt this in all ways but i just did it and it felt so right. and trust me im weak too . you cant possibly be much weaker then me.

  • thanks, i've been looking for a bodyweight-based bicep exercise forever.

this may be a silly question but, assuming proper form is maintained, approximately what proportion of one's body weight would the biceps be working against during this exercise?

  • Is there a way to build up to this? I have a hard time doing this. (I am 300 lbs)

  • @Darthzilla99 If you're trying to lose weight, I've always felt like cardio gives better results than strength training.

But anyway, a cheap alternative you could do is buy four 1-gallon jugs of water and do bicep curls with two per hand (probably'll cost $6 at most) and it'll get you about 17 pounds per hand.

At that point though I'd probably spring for actual 10 or 20 pound dumbbells, at least until you're strong enough to the point where you can do the bodyweight exercises.

  • Do this workout build the shoulders?? I mean muscle mass on the shoulders

  • greetz, man, it's the third or fourth video of yours i've seen and i appreciate your creativity:)

  • wouldnt this cause long term damage to the elbow?

  • @1salasi

    No

  • i cannot realy think of a life-situation when i dont have acces at least to something to do pull ups and chin ups on...

  • @Krisznyo I can.

  • am i right? is the tricep in the back and bicep in the front?

  • That is anatomically correct.

  • yes

  • Awesome, tried it out and it works. Very good video. Good explanations. Thanks for posting.

  • why do biceps exercises?

  • Why take protein mixes?

  • Biceps are a Major pulling muscle of the upper body, for many people they fail long before the other muscles of the upper body fail while working out, therefore in order to increase these exercises (Bent Rows, Upright Rows, Power Clean, hang pulls etc.) and to avoide injury it is an extremely smart idea to stengthen the biceps and grip with Biceps exercises.

In doing this, most people find better gains in their pulling exrcises as well as proper push/pull ratio muscle size of the arms.

  • Thank you for your comments.

  • my compliments! just spent a whole month in a remote spot with no access to my weights and this simple & effective exercise has become a valuable addition to my set of bodyweight exercises when in such a situation. won't fully replace weights, but will definitely keep you in shape. as the man said, main thing is to keep your head & neck neutral and keep looking up, avoid coming up fully to a 90 degree elbow angle and to take it sloooow on the way back down in order to feel the stretch. nice one!

  • 2pzgren142,

  • Is he breathing in or out on the exertion?

  • Breath out, when you come up.

  • Really interesting exercise. What percentage of your bodyweight do you lift with this exercise?

  • No idea. Maybe Paul knows. His chanel is ElasticSteel and so is his website. See if he can answer that.

  • Creative exercise.. Brilliant!

  • Thank you sir. We'll pass your props to Paul Zaichik.

  • does it works guys???

  • Believe it or not it does work. Try it.

  • I've recently recovered from a slipped disc problem and even though I've been cleared to workout with weights, I am hesitant to do so. I've turned to body weight exercises instead and I couldn't find anything for biceps except the chin up. Since I'm slightly overweight this was quite a challenge.

This exercise helps a lot...solves my workout problems...do you have any other body weight exercise for the biceps? Thanks for this!!

  • Thank you for your comments. We'll pass your props to Paul Zaichik. Take a look at "Arms of the Sailor" Video from bodyweightculture for more biceps exercises.

    Best of Luck.

  • This is a great biceps exercise, if you don't have equipment.

  • That was the point of the exercise.

  • Wow great! Was looking for a bodyweight biceps exercise but the only I could find was the pull up. Great job it really works!
