I remember this song at a Kevin Ayers concert an older flatmate of mine took me too in 1981 as a young teenager in Venlo Holland. "Then" i had no idea who the hell Kevin Ayers was but it was a free concert and changed me overnight into a fan (and of Softmachine)
I think Ollie was far and away the besr guitarist ever, there is also a good version of "Town drunk" on an album called Fatsticks by Terry Stamp with Ollie doing some great work, might also be worth trying a listen to Fresh liver by Scaffold and Where did I go right by John Otway
Absolutely, one of the best guitar solos of all time. Nice to see it performed, with some great variations. Why is this stuff languishing in oblivion?
