Thank you for this upload! You can hear the John Entwistle Happy Jackesque bass lines Chris Squire plays in this song. They are the 2 greatest bass players of all time.
A curio only. The lyrics are atrocious, even when the era is taken into account, and the tune isn't much either. Has any other song ever included the word "rhododendrons'? Talk about taking "flower power' literally!
@fernald10 or it's entirely perverse/a hilariously metaphorical take on a male escort doing his job for the love of it/ a tongue in cheek play on/reaction to the homophobic/xenophobic notions/slurs in the mainstream that 'hippies'/'long hairs', dandies, what have you are 'gay' for being into everything that they were at the time. or it could just as you present be just about flowers without any subtext occurring. i think my take is more in the spirit though.
@xxDiteljanxx FLOWERMAN The Syn - 1967 Flowerman, a sunshine showerman Oh, and I make a living Yes by giving, a sunshine to those ??? Flowerman I'm a flowerman I'm a flowerman For that is whats I am I'm a flowerman I've got a spade and a watering can And I spend my hours, yes with flowers And devoting to them, my hours I'm a flowerman I'm a flowerman I'm a flowerman Well that is whats I am
@xxDiteljanxx Flowers are like people They get sentimental, all of them From the Daisy to the Rose Flowers are a thing of beauty They need care from somebody like me Someone who knows Yes a flowerman, a sunshine showerman And I make a living, yes by giving attention To those ??? Flowerman I'm a flowerman I'm a flowerman For that is whats I am
That's what I am a man, a fa la la-lower man!

What the hell instrument is making the high chiming noises (you can hear it by itself at :26 and :58)? Plucked piano strings?

@mrJimCharles I'm pretty sure it's a harpsichord. Maybe they tuned it up higher than normal.
