last week i bought an new hp pavilion dv6-6170sl (one of the latest ones) and i'm already planning to give it back because of the damn noise coming from the fans, people this is a common problem with the hp laptops mine is high performance but they haven't improve those damn fans i felt like shit today while my friends asus was running autocad and a lot of heavy designs programs at the same time (just as mine in termsof speed and graphics) but with a tomb silence coming from the fans...oh god!!
It's all junk. most of their desktop stuff uses pc-chips and other low end boards re-bios-ed for theier product. I hate when someone brings one of these POS things into my shop. I as a rule NEVER fix compaqs. Best to leave that lame horse shot. It always ends in tears... :) I, like you, have a dell that is older than dirt and it still runs as good as the day it was bought.
This Video is absolutely correct. I have my HP Pavilion DV 4 and I already send it 3 times in the service center of HP. Current status of my poor laptop is I cant even start it exactly as shown in Video. Fucking HP people made this laptops just to stay in there service station. Don't even get me started on their all in one printer.

Stay away from hp. HP was never an excellent company to begin with. They had a woman CEO some years back. Investors thought they can push her buttons, but no. HP stocks was at all time low, but business practice can be called ethical. She was fired. The new guy cut budget for R&D, customer service, QA dramatically. Products are intended to fail prematurely. Tech support people were trained as sales people.

I had a HP laptop (actually Compaq) ones, biggest piece of shit I've ever had. Just over a year of ownership screws have fallen off, laptop overheating and randomly crashing, the power pack broke, a error when i turn on the laptop that "SMART Disk Failure Imminent on Hard Disk", battery has lost it charge completely and I cannot use it unless connected to power and so slow even for the speck it should be this slow. Thank god now I got a dell laptop and it been great no problems at all Fuck HP
Screw tech support and screw a replacement. Lol, I'm getting a new desktop from Dell. $40 a month (about) and a 20" screen, 4GB RAM, 512 MB video card, 500 MB Hard Drive, 1 DVD RW and 1 DVD ROM drive, and 5.1. surround sound. All for a pretty good deal.
Also, my dad and I determined that it may be the power supply cause the hard drive in it is actually brand new.
Not a hard drive, bad chipset, motherboard needs to be replaced. Many HP's have this same problem. HP Knows about the problem but refuses to do anything about it
I'm on one now! But it is the last HP that I buy!

I have the same laptop for 1 year now. Broken battery, broken adapter, HP assistent get's me angry. Touch sound button always makes my laptop strand.
And now im looking for a solution why he suddently doesn't regonize my external monitor. Working on it for 4 hours now!
