  • well what else can you expect from a carrick man? but the best,

  • rest in peace liam, even though i was only a small child. then i still remember the weekends in carrick house, carrick on suir, so many years ago, dont stop singing?

  • He was the Best.

    The best.

    The best ever.

    My Best ever.

Can't wait to see him in the next one. I look forward to dying to see him as much as my father. A beautiful person. A real beautiful person. I cannot wait. I cannot wait.

  • He was beautiful. Maybe I think so because I come from Boston. If I were in a bar, this is the guy I'd sit next to. Laugh at jokes. Hold a beer. And uh... well, can't recall an instance in which sex didn't result from this. With Irish guys. It's the British who give you games, grief and insinuate that they're familiar with the most beastly acts of mankind. With the Irish, you got laid and maybe you enjoyed the evening. I married a guy like this, so I know that's a bad idea.

  • top draw stuff

  • Bob Dylan may well have been right about Liam Clancy being the best ballad-singer. Oh, how lovely, mellow and evocative his voice is in this song.

There are so many beautiful versions of "The Water is Wide," that I really cannot choose just one. I've "favorited" a number of them, including this one.

    Thanks for posting.

  • Je comprends pourquoi tu utilises tous ces adjectifs "mellow, evocative..." I am French and don't speak very well English, but I can recognize accents and Liam has this charming irish accent, that's why it's nice to hear to. Sorry for my broken English ; at least, I try !

  • @Rejane83 You're able to make your meaning known in English as I could not in French; kudos to you! Like most Americans, I find it charming to hear a French accent.

And you're right about the charm of an Irish accent; in fact, I am a stone cold fool for a man with an Irish accent. ;)

  • @GuinnevereB That's right, but i think the performs of counterternors like Alfred Deller or Andreas Scholl are great too.

  • @fanchbrezoneg Many, many, many wonderful singers I've never had the pleasure of hearing. Perhaps if we meet in the next world, I can hear them all and even sing along!

  • lyrics are not matching.

    great version.

  • I believe Bob Dylan said Liam Clancy was the best ballad singer he'd heard.

  • Love this. Also love the version by Rhonda Vincent with Keith Urban on her "Good Thing Going" CD.

  • Please listen to "fair isle folk" version sung by Patsy McEvoy who passed away just a short few weeks ago. R.I.P.

  • Lovely song, The Seekers sung this years ago, and that's where I first heard it, it's a great tune.

    Norfolk

    Female 59

  • The only other version of this song that makes me want to cry is by coutnertenor Andreas Scholl. But Liam has a sensitivity to music that is all his own:)

  • and by the other countertenor ALFRED DELLER;

  • great very calming. Reminds me of songs I heard growing up in an old Irish neighborhood in New York.

  • LOVE THIS!

  • we sang this in my school choir!!

  • Along time since Liam sounded so true & fine Never-the`less he's still

    one of Irelands best balladeers

  • brill

  • love it!!!

  • No problem, my friend ;D

  • Great song. Thanks for posting.
