A lot of music stores might have the vocal selections for Bounce or Road Show (the revised version of this show) and I believe this song is in both. If you're anywhere near NYC, I know Colony would have it.
I saw the Goodman production and I have to say that I wasn't very impressed (and I AM a big Sondheim fan)--though this was one of the parts I actually enjoyed. I didn't get to see ROAD SHOW, so not sure if I'd feel differently about the revisions.
Dunno. Can't speak for Bounce myself, but I saw the reincarnation of this (Road Show), and while Sondheim can never be BAD, I didn't think it was his strongest work. A so-so interesting story, and a lot of the music made me think of his far superior previous works. Maybe that's why? Nothing exciting enough to really grab hold of.
"Gavin Creel (98) received a 2002 Tony Award nomination as Best Actor in a Musical for his performance in THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE. LA CAGE AUX FOLLES (Bway), Burt in the London production of MARY POPPINS."
wot an amzing song i have never heard it before! i love gavin creel so frinkin much possible the best musical theatre young male voice ever! closely followed by kris harding!
I thought he was amazing when I heard him on the "Millie" soundtrack, now seeing him actually perfoming . . . he's mind-blowingly great! . . . And hot.
This is AWESOME. Put up the rest of the show, dammit! Someone!!

I find myself coming back to it, too. Gavin Creel makes it sound effortless. A good example of a talented artist committed to his material.

is it just me, or is his hair shiny:D or maybe is is the lighting...
broadwaystar2011 3 years ago
i think he's greased it back or something (just to look the part mind you)
;D so his hair is indeed rather shiny.
BakingAccident 3 years ago 2
you're right.
actordude9393 3 years ago
The shiny hair is all I could focus on through the whole song. Funny that I wasn't the only one.

Except Gavin isn't on the soundtrack of MILIE. He wasn't even born yet when that movie was made. He is on teh original Broadway cast recording.

I don't understand how Sondheim can claim this show to be a cartoon - some of his work is just too creepy to not take seriously.

He's one of my favorite theatre tenors. He's got this most beautiful, amazing voices. It might be the camera angle, but does he have a lazy eye?
