If you want to find the notes, search (google?) for Bela Bartok, concerto for violin and orchestra.
Beautiful! I just listened to this piece at a concert this evening by the Mozart Ensemble from Groningen (Netherlands), never heard this before (at home it's all Mendelssohn, Vivaldi, Bach, Beethoven etc.) but i really appreciate this music!
Mabye somebody knows, where can I find notes od\f this piece? I would like to play this with orchestra and I can't find notes anyway. This is so good composition.!
wow. and i was able to play in a masterclass with her? O_o she played for us like an hour before the masterclass and it sounded amazing :) i was on the edge of my sit the whole time... and it wasn't even a very "in-your-face" type of piece. it was very calm. but she played extremely well. i would go to her college just to work under her. she's very sweet too and i'm extremely happy i got a chance to at least work w/ her for about 10 minutes.
yeah it was... i wish we would've had more time.. and that i would've played a little bit better. i got nervous on stage and started shaking -_- but she looked past it. :)
@genmaximus110 it was great... and now i'm actually getting ready to audition for the University of Arizona to go work with her :) i'm just waiting to set up an audition with her.
Wow! I tried listening to this as background music, but couldn't. It's too amazing. Love the style, the sound... sounds like a violin up high! OMG! :D
Yeah, my biggest complaint about most viola works is the fact that the viola is usually scored so high that it might as well be a violin. Luckily, though, a viola still sounds different than a violin in its upper ranges, but I still prefer the low notes.
I am happy to see this video/audio on YouTube. I happen to be Ms. Xiao's manager. I can say that I am planning to produce a video of her hopefully to be released this year. She has a new concerto that she wants to promote. Many thanks to genMaximus110 for posting this on YouTube.
Wow! Gen, you're really lucky to be in touch will someone who plays the viola so well. I have only been playing for a 5 months, and some times I fell a bit discouraged, but most of the time I'm happy that I'm learning somehting like this. I just wish I could play something this nice, on my viola, and not be in the background like I usually am in the orchestra. She sounds and looks wonderful. I wish I had a free vila, tutor. :P Lol. Thanks for the upload
I can't say I'm in touch with her. Too bad, though. I just emailed her a couple of times to see if would be okay to send my CD booklet to her to sign, and of course to praise her. ) Other than that, that's all the contact I've had with her. I still treasure my autograph, though.
I love Hong-Mei Xiao. She is my favorite violist. I think she's still a professor at the University of Arizona College of Fine Arts. Anyway, I was able to email her and she actually responded. I sent her the CD booklet of this CD with SASE and she signed a little note to me. I treasure it dearly!
I've been listening to this CD all week. It contains Hong-Mei Xiao playing this piece and both versions of Béla Bartók's viola concerto: Tibor Serly's original orchestration and Peter Bartók's re-orchestration.
Then, I realized that a lot of people have probably never heard this rhapsody and I figured I just had to upload it.

This is some of the most beautiful music I have ever heard. Ms. Xiao is simply extraordinary. Why don't we hear more from her?

She's too busy teaching, I guess. But, she has the most beautiful viola sound. I wish she had spent more time recording.
