The first recourse I had was to the Consumer and Tenancy Tribunal (NSW, Aust) where I applied for orders that she be prevented from attending the premises. Those orders were made, and I moved out four weeks later. (I was on a month to month lease by that stage). So, I've been happily out of there the last 8 months. It would take 24 hours for the funds to clear and by that time they were on the doorstep harrassing me.
In some places, it's actually illegal to demand cash as the sole payment method unless a tenant has bounced or stopped payment on checks or money orders, and so on.

That's why you need receipts for your rents. And if you mail your rent, you send it certified mail.
And that's why it's best to send money order or checks, because you can trace them and put stop payments on them.
