  • I would love to be in that class, work myself to the bone, then come here to canada and be better then everyone else :)

  • It's a nightmare...

  • And where can I buy or see the whole film?

  • this is disturbing...

  • Please could you tell me wher to watch this?!!! thank youu

  • Sounds like concentration camp victim.

  • whats the song that starts at 1.03 called?

  • @kesia96 The music is the original score for A Beautiful Tragedy, recorded with an orchestra and choir in Oslo Norway.

  • @davidk96 I dont understand, the part at 1.03 is also in the movie Black Swan... How could it be the original score for this movie?

  • @kesia96 Well E-news made a story about Black Swan used A Beautiful Tragedy as their inspiration and research for Black Swan.

The music track is original and I am the director :)

I have not watched Black swan.

  • @kesia96 Well my movie was made in 2008 and Black Swan 2010, so if the same music is in Black Swan then they have stolen my original soundtrack that I commissioned.

  • @davidk96 That's not very nice of them!

  • @davidk96 The tune is from Swan Lake's Tchaikovsky, actually. It's from the end of Odette's variation. Go check it out.

  • @davidk96 could you please tell me where i can watch it? in full? i have been looking for agesssssssss

  • @davidk96 I guess she means the little fragment of 1.03 she recognized from black swan it's from swan lake, if i'm not mistaken it's part of the Odette's coda.

Your soundrack is amazing and beautiful David, I don't doubt that Darren Aronofsky found your film inspirational you can see a lot of "A beautiful tragedy" and the japanese anime film "Perfect Blue" in "Black Swan", which it's after all is kinda overrated.

    Greetings from Mexico =)

  • @kesia96 , that music is the odette variation ,but in this movie sounds only for a couple of seconds. Is not from a beautiful tragedy

  • @davidk96 The piano at 1:03 in this video is Tchaikovsky, Swan Lake Act II, Odette's Divertissement. That's what @kesia96 is talking about.

  • @kesia96 The music you hear is Tchaikovsky, from Odette's variation for Act II of Swan Lake. Go to this video and forward to 1:50, that is what you're hearing in this video for about 2 seconds.

    youtube( dot) com/ watch?v=8tDbfBIPn0o&feature=related

  • @kesia96 the music at 1:03 is part of Swan Lake's score.

  • I'd love to dance as beautiful as these girls, but I'm happy I can enjoy ballet without having to feel like I'm a failure because I can't do perfect pirouette or jump

  • Aspirations fulfilled by one's offsprings, abusive teachers and coaches are the unfortunate regular hidden sides of excellence in performance. As much as pain and dedication are needed to progress early onwards, broken dolls and empty stares shouldn't be the result...

  • is there still a perm state ballet school????

  • where can i watch the full movie???? pls help!!!!

  • Haunting!

  • this looks more like a trailor to me, can anyone upload the full version please? i would like to see the ful version.

  • Ballet isn´t about this!! ballet is about feeling alive every time you do a pirouette, every time you jump, every time you listen to the beautiful music!! It's not about suffering it's about enjoying a life that only a few can get.

  • what about oksana at the moment? Is she dancing anymore?

  • ww2 russia ratio`s look at your racial hate comment`s and you mention the bulling drunkard teacher, your all the same, weeded out is an excuse bad teachers and trainners use when they aint good enoughmthey tell the nen`s who stayed that they are better when there teachings are crap evil.good teacher are like miltarey leader they get all there men out alive

  • Where could we maybe see the full version of this. It looks really good!! (:

  • @MissMandiiee Are you allright ?? That's sad and terrible !!

  • @mizify

    C'est la vie!

    No pain,no gain..

  • its so sad she has to be under so much stress and depression about something she should be passionate about, its sad to see that teachers like this make a beautiful dance into torture!

  • Did something bad end up happening to this girl at the end of this piece? or was the tragedy the fact that she was a student who had this eating disorder, and was internally beat down by her teacher??

  • it´s so sad.

  • The tragedy ends when these beautiful russian bitches ballerinas come to America to be a principal wherever they want and make a lot of money jusy dancing in a decent company that gives them everything, not mentioning health insurance and housing some times.. THEN IS WHEN THEIR LIFES REALLY START HAVING ALL WHAT THEY DREAMED AND DANCING AND HAVING FUN, AND OF COURSE, LAUGHING AT THE REST OF THE DANCERS WHO FELT SORRY ABOUT THEM WHEN THEY WERE LITTLE GIRLS AND WERE TRAINED WITH SCARY TEACHERS....

  • But the tragedy ends when those skinny bitches come to the stage to dance Don Q or Swan Lake or whatever they want because they are so perfect and they do 32 fouettes with double pirouettes in btw like nothing... Because after all those years of training since they were little kids technique just comes as natural as they are...

  • A little dark the music and cartoon scene but it catches your eye, so russian style. And if ballet is not a tragedy it can be for people who would kill to have the technique that Oksana has and the opportunity to study in that strict school in Russia. Of course they suffer and it can be a traumatic experience in their life for those girls..

  • That's creepy.

  • this is really short and choppy not to mention out of place/order, i dont see why it was made into 4 very short videos...where can i find the full documentary?

  • where can i see the full version of this?

  • At 0.50 do the girl look in the mirror and think she´s fat, because really is not fat

  • that's horrible..

  • manshan1230 , mmmmmmmm... :(

  • фильм о том, как она ненавидит балет????????

  • The only thing that is wrong about this is that she doesn't love the ballet. What the video is saying is that she doesn't want to dance -which is a beautiful tragedy. It's not saying that Ballet it's self is a tragedy.

  • I OBJECT! Ballet is only depressing when you let your passion for it die. This girl should just go home she's not ready we understand. But there are girls who love it and have fun.

  • those girls are americans... and arent as talented as these girls... there isnt any silly regional schools in strip malls and then audition for the national ballet school LATER in russia... it starts from a VERY young age...

  • are you saying then that most russian ballerinas are depressed? i don't understand.

  • What a unobjective, slanted piece of propaganda! Many of us have gone through boarding school ballet training with strict, even harsh teachers and have thrived on the chance to work at our passion with the very best. This child is obviously depressed and in need of help, but most have a lot of fun along with the fulfilling work.

  • it's a bit different than harsh teachers anywhere else. it's one of the best ballet schools, if not the best one, in the world. it's like bolshoi theatre between other ballet theatres! these girls work very hard from their childhoods, for many of them it's the only chance for better life, not starving and so on. they work as hard as chinese athlets. that's why they are the best in the world.

  • and this is russian way of teaching. teachers are worst bastards because they care and thanks to this they give the chance to be the best of the best ones.

  • Wow. This is a great beginning of this video. Some parents actually do this to their children. I really liked how everything was put together in this video. You can actually feel the sorrow......very powerful.

  • this is horriible but inspiring and it is a beautiful traditey

  • come on! these girls are working their hardest to archive their dream and change their future. Instead of looking down on them with pity shouldn't we admire their spirit and strength?

  • this is wrong...ballet is not a tragedy!!! ballet is hard, painfull but it is not a tragedy !

  • tragedy?

  • is that movie on youtube avaiable??

really want to watch the doc....

  • Wow........ Not worth it huh. I dance at a russain ballet school. I love it. But this is just wrong.

  • where can you buy the film?

  • wow..

i just watched the 4 videos and almost died.

dancing should never be like that

some discipline is okay. but that it just cruel. they are so skinny too !

ballet should be fun and you need to love it.

  • I love ballet. I think it is terrible for girls to go through this. Then again, watching it, it inspires me to be as good and amazing as the girls. I do not wish for that kind of torture upon anyone, but I try to work as hard in class as one would in a Russian school, like Oksana. I think she is an inspiration to us all, not just because of her talent and beauty, but because of her strength to persevere through this and be what she and her mother want.

  • The beginning was awesome!

  • ah thats terrifying

  • omg that scene is so scary!!!

  • This video is quite sad. Although, I do like this part: 0:37 The music here is chilling...

  • SHIT i almost had a a anxiety attack from this scene no dance should be treated like that NEVER EVER!!!!

  • ei where i can see complete?

  • ballet is not like that is beautiful and fun if you really love it like i do!!

  • What happened to the rival in the movie - Masha?

  • if you're a ballet dancer, you can see that this is beautiful..

and ballet is a very beautiful activity.

  • i can see commplete ?

  • Eu tbm amo ballet, esse video é horrível!

  • I am close to tears. This pretty much sums up how I felt about this mini film.

  • Awesome opening/preview. Very Tim Burtonesque.

  • - continued - Otherwise if you treat them in hate they will not learn anything and you will be scared to turn up to the next lesson. With these girls i fear for them

No one should be treated like this.

But the teacher has lost her sense of thankfullness and kindness towards the kids,

What happend to the ' ballet is a romantic yet joyable dance to learn' ? She's obvioulsly forgotten about this

  • Ballet is all they know in Russia, besides figure skating this is really the only hope these girls have. Why do you think they excel at Ballet and skating?

  • I always wanted to go to a perm ballet school and my mum agreed with me but my dad didn't he said my normal dance school was perfect for me and i disagreed with him until he made me watch this video that i have now got at home. It scared me to death on what these girls have to go through. I always thought that ballet always had to be taught with love and happiness and my mum told me that when you get taught ballet you should never treat a ballerina with hate, you should always treat them nice,

  • Ballet is not all about getting everything right, it about feeling the music, letting your feelings shine through your movements. enjoying it. they have lost that. and its just not right.

  • i want to have this documentary!! to watch it

  • I love ballet.

    Ballet is beautiful.

But there are so many more beautiful things in life that I'm very blessed to have experienced. And when I watch these videos I realize how lucky I am. These girls' lives seem so 1 dimensional. You know?

  • I think Ballet HAS to be taught with love. Discipline is okay, but you do not want young dancers to become frustrated and start to hate their bodies and even the ballet.I am against this kind of teaching. On the outside the ballet starts to look better(technically etc but the soul and love for ballet has a serious change of getting destroyed. And what if you loose dancing from the inside out? What ballerina would that make?A tortured robotic one with a sense of fear not the freedom andjoy of dancin

  • I totally agree- there is a fine line between strict teaching that inspires students and mental/emotional abuse that kills humanity. Great dancers use technique as a mechanism to express the feelings from their souls. These films make me incredibly sad since dance is used for harmful ends rather than liberation and expression.

  • how is the movie call? i want to buy it...

  • i feel sorry for her you can't be told that your going to be a dancer you have to want it more than anything else in the world

  • i used to studied in a russian state academy... they do yell you,, may be,, humiliate you,, but if u r commited with what ballet is, and what it' s passion means to you, nothing else matters, when you' re dancing.. is only the music... your pointes & you... nothing else,

  • sometimes i agree with being hard on students. it is moments like that, that a student can then decide if their heart is really in it or not. if it is then they have to decide if it is worth everything to them. and only the ones who figure that much are the most successful in their craft. if you dont want a teacher who is committed to doing anything to help you reach your full potential and discover yourself, then fuck off and go learn underwater basketweaving.

  • i agree with you, completly!!

    NO, pain! NO gain!

  • ces horrible les pauvres!

  • Sorry, guys. That's not ballet. It's theirs mother's choice to do that with the girls. If they don't want to, they are not obligated to dance, only her family thinks that way. BALLET IS ABOUT PASSION, not torture. You can be as good as they are whithout any health problems. The ballerinas doesn't have to be anorexic and problematic. Sorry, but that's totally wrong.

  • Okay most of you guys who say you dance probably dance in the states and in the states dance isnt really all that taken seriously but these girls dance in the Ukraine and in Russia and in those countries dance is taken very serious by these teachers and sometimes dance is all these girls have and trust I myself dance and I have a Russian teacher and she is very strict just like the woman in the video just not as worst.

  • Wow, I would hate to be one of these girls, their lives look miserable! =O

  • This is a really wrong way to put ballet. I am a student after the vaganova method myself, and i am used to those kind of comments. The more criticism you get, the bigger compliment it is. That simply means that your teacher is willing to use his/her energy on you getting better. The students who doesn't seem to want to work doesn't get any help. That's the facts. So these girls are lucky! If you don't eat, you won't manage to dance, so the comment on your website about the routines were wrong.

  • let's see David K......you do one film on the torture of young ballerina's and the other about young girls getting late term abortions....maybe you just get off on the torture aspect......kinda..maybe....I'm thinkin....btw....late term abortions ain't got nothin' to do with taking ballet or being tortured by an incredibly abusive ballet mistress.....but somehow you've found a link...?

  • wolifgang I think you are telling too much

  • Well, these teachers are screaming for the dancer's own good. If i had the teacher who will almost heart attack for me, i would be the luckiest pupil in the world.

  • i see what you mean, then again... i also study pedagogy and read a lot about teaching methods and psychology currently. I´m not sure if this is the perfect way. I know, i have experienced, that fear (of a teacher) makes you work really really hard. But when you give everything and your teacher still screams at you, then it´s not really helping to improve. The student needs to feel that her efforts have a positive effect, otherwise she will get frustrated/depressed..like the film shows

  • Ballet is not like that . . . . . that is just toooo dark! Please dont take your opinion of ballet from this! Speaking as a dancer myself!

  • If anyone wants an insider's view of ballet lessons in the Vaganova (Russian) style, please consider looking through the book "100 Lessons in Classical Ballet." The exact lessons are outlined from the 1st to 8th year of dance training. As an added bonus, the girls in the photos look very muscular as they age, and even have normal female hips! LOL

  • jesus crist!! this is not like that at all.... ballet is really hard, and of course if u dont like wat u are doing u feel bad and depress but for truly baillerinas the wants who love ballet with all heart is still hard but we love it... dancing is not easy u need lot of discipline and strengh to hold on but u do it because is ur dream is what u really wanna do!!! if this girl didnt want to do ballet maybe she just should come back home... its not worth it

  • dat stomme gehijg aan het eind klinkt egt niet!!

  • In the end, does Oksana Skorik continue dancing or quit? Or.... does she die from exhaustion and lack of food? 0:51 is so sad. That's how I feel sometimes.

  • she continues and now dances with the kirov, so i guess it was all worth it?

  • to the people who post comments about ballet not really being like this-- of course it is depending on the person--- first off the teachers in russai have almost no laws gaurding their dancers from whatever the hell they want to do to them--- and if the dancer is hard on herself as well then its jyst double what it should and the girls feel extreme stress for want of perfection... so i think this documentary is very realistic... they are amazing though-- this method creates gorgeous dancers

  • It's ironic how the filmmaker wants to sell his movie by making people pity these girls, but at the same time he's the one (NOT their ballet teachers...) exploiting their misery publicly for his own monetary and professional gain. If he truly respected what these girls go through then he wouldn't be trying to make a profit off of a very conveniently edited video made to make it look worse than it is for sheer "shock value". Apparently this DVD sells for over $40.00...how much do the girls get?

  • why is she breathing heavly in the backround

it scared me a little bit

  • taken from pink floyd's movie the wall...

  • Not ALL Russian teachers are mean. I know they have a reputation of being that way--and a lot of them are--but I have one Russian teacher and she is SO nice (very picky--but nice). I've also had one other Russian teacher in the past and she wasn't mean, either (tough, but not mean).

  • just teacher wanna help only like this can be prefeclty ballerina

  • ballet is not juz about skills.

its about music, its about movement not only from ur body but also from ur heart. feel our body as well as feel the music and feel ur heart.its all about emotion and how u present yourself on yr own emotion.

  • i agree

you do have to be good at ballet, and have good technique

but if you don't dance from your heart, and really feel the music, then it's not really dancing...it's just going through the movements

  • I study ballet from two teachers who used to be principle dancers at the Kirov Ballet in Russia. THEY ARE MEAN! I think the Russians are more intense about the teaching of ballet than others are. It helps in the long run, though.

  • you just dun understand...

no nid to go highly respected scgool...

my teacher in my studio was just like the teacher in the video...

    u r new for ballet...

    you're never knw...

  • if you went to a highly respected school like ones in russia

you could see ballet isnt just dancing and loving it.

its so much more than you will ever know.

  • Its unbelievable how horrible things can get in this world

  • I studied ballet through elementary and into high school, and was not sad when I was forced to quit at 15 due to injury. My first few years were alot of fun, but once I entered the senior/advanced level, my teacher got mean and very demanding. She wasn't as belligerent as the teachers in this film, but just as mean spirited. She made me eleve en pointe when I was injured 50 times per foot, which resulted in deep tissue scars I still carry 10 yrs later and always called me fat. Ballet is cruel.

  • omg ballet is not like this. i mean, maybe in that school with that teacher...

perhaps this was a teeny bit overdone....

As for the ballet dreamers who had watched this, DONT acknowledge the fact that this is what your fate is. it may prepare you for something rough that may come along from time to time, but come on :)

ballet dance is something to be passionate about and a time to be with friends. its one heck of a lovely dance, might I add <333

  • I am 13...and i practice ballet from 3 months. My teacher is very nice...i love her<3,,,she never says something bad about me ,she is just so nice...And i have a lot of funn practicing ballet

  • May you pirouette and jette into your dreams! :)

  • I wish these girls could just be whisked off to the Royal Ballet School or the School of American Ballet, it'd probably feel so much like heaven (with nice teachers, they'd realize how much they really love ballet!

  • i think its ok to be that hard but the only thing wrong is the food

  • That teacher is so bad and more like dangerous! that school should be closed down

  • well it deff can not be safe to be feeding them that nasty food. and then almost no rest and then working their buts off!!!

  • it sounds scary

  • oh my god! i hate that teacher!.. but it's not like that! this is very dramatic.. over the top!

  • This seems like a very interesting way to bring awareness to this subject. I hope that people see that it's a hard choice and people shouldn't have to go through this, but in some ways, it's not like these poor girls have the choice...

  • wtf??

  • Hey im angry qith your teacher she's so so so bad teacher you will dead if you go to her lessens i prefer to go in a hell but never here

  • Theacher's should engourage to do better, because if you just call your students idiots all the time, they just start giving up.

  • this video is very intriguing... i ordered it! i think it will be a very interesting watch...but does anyone know for sure that it has subtitles like this youtube version does? i dont speak russian!!! :)

  • oh gosh, it looks like a horror movie

  • ballet is a horror movie...iv been dancin ballet 4 10 years nad i dont even want my worst enemy to go through wht i been through!

  • wo0o00!!! =0

    thanks !!!

  • i understand...i want to go to that school, of course the teachers, the sacrifices, it all hurts, but sometimes feelings are bigger than reality, i would do everything for becoming a dancer....i already do

  • That was a horror film for a second.

  • Maybe some people can be pushed like that, but I cant take it when someone yells at me. I break down.

  • why do you want to go to this school so badly? i understand that you want to become more advanced, but there you sacrifice so much... =//

  • meraviglioso video

  • Exohitzcrystal I agree with you I like ballet schools like that. My mom would probibly let me go there

  • i want to go to that school so badly i want to become the dancer i could be it is my passion, my life, but my mom would never let me

  • O that's too bad that you missed out on dancing with the Bolshio ballet! I would be so upset if that happened to me I'm sorry. Are you a cathlic? I am a christian.

  • I think that ballet teachers should be like that because look at the Russians compaired to us they are way better dancers! When I am 14 or 15 I am flying down to Russia and auditioning for the Bloshio or Kirov and I hope my teachers are atleast that strict! I push myself alot on ballet because I want so much to sucseed. And in America so much kids want the nicest teachers as possible and I do not agree with that and I think alot of kids here are very spoiled but not all.

  • oh my goodness, i was going to be a snowflake in the Moscow Ballet's "The Nutcracker"! sadly, my parents wanted me to keep the Sabbath(Saturday)holy, so i couldn't go to the rehearsals.

  • yes, but half of them are really screwed up people to become that way... unfortunately

  • tht was scary!

    awesome and great affects!!=]

  • i wish i went to that school x

  • The part 'there was a woman who would give anything to be a ballerina but couldnt be' could be written about me

  • Im alrd 18 but I still hoped to go for ballet..

  • Wow! That is so creepy. Very well done.

  • Wonderful!!!

  • exelente!!!!!!!!!!!

  • very tim burton-esque.

    AMAZING!

  • this was beautifully shot and edited well done!!!

  • there are some place in the world that the most important is dance!!dance is love!!its not jut the leg, flexibilite!because dance its not rules!!rule help dancing... its big diference

  • im going to a russian ballet school for summer--bossov ballet, it's in maine; am i going to be in tears and wish i was home? im only going for 2 weeks and ballet is my life!! please respod...someone?

  • if you are a skinny girl and you are good i dont think so!! lol!! maybe is the teacher!!

  • I wish I had been ablt to go to a ballet school like that! I think if they didn't care-they wouldn't yell. It's no different than a tough sports coach.

  • I am a ballerina myself, and personally....I am frightened of what would happen if I made it into a company. But I will do anything to dance...

Beautiful videos by the way davidk96!!

  • This video is so heart breaking and the message is very powerful. The only problem I have with this video is if you love to dance this it should not seem like a nightmere. Although these girls go through tough times I am sure they all do it willingly to make it to the top of their art for. I don't think anyone one of them would wish they could't dance. You can't dance unless you truly love it.

  • i love dance because its how i express myself. i dont think i will ever stop loving dance and im dedicated to it aswell, but this did look like a nightmare to me. it didnt seem like she was even enjoying dancing... which is the whole reason why i dance in the first place

  • I'm not a dancer myself, (I'm a singer, but i have to admit, I've got a major case of ballerina envy) but I've been around a lot of ballet dancers in my life, and I thinnk the weirght thing is so sad. I know one girl who's doctor told her to gain wait and her studio was telling her she was too fat. It's rediculous. But what you all can do is so beautiful

  • yes,

    its the Vaganova Training.

  • yes the Russian training is extremely harsh, but this is why they are so good, the best in the world. when girls stetch they are in so much pain that they scream, but the teacher continues to push.my aunt wanted to get into a company in russia and she was allowed in because my grandfather worked in the orcestra. but she had big knees, and the man who let her in told my grandfather that she would never be the best no matter how hard she worked, and she would be in tears everyday.this is how it is.

  • see, everyone is telling me that if i loved dance, i would put myself through that. but the fact is, i do love dance. and i would never try to put myself in a situation where i WOULDNT!!! you can love dance and not want to kill yourself over it... its a perfectly plausible concept.

  • I love the effect of the studio mirrors

  • This was beautiful and sad...

  • Where can we buy this movie?

  • how much is the full film?

  • is this the biggining of the movie

  • This is the start of the Film festival 58 minute version of A Beautiful Tragedy Movie.

  • nice shots! very well done.
