I have no doubt a Ultima GTR can smash records at Nurburgring. If it could post a time better than a 911 GT2 RS that would be amazing, but I bet with the right driver and set up it could do it easily. The Ultima GTR is a beast.
With very good driver Ultima GTR can drive very low 7 mins on Ring, and with even more tuned suspensions, higher downforce, better sticky tires, maybe even under 7mins. :))
You are costing on the part you should be flat out. I think you just need to run 100 laps or so then you will be flying! I'm in the US and a big SBC & BBC buff, It sounds like it has a blower? What motor are you running? Steve in Indy.
I dunno, when you think about it, the Ultima GTR is like a reverse P-51 story; British car body, American engine, and what you get out of it is almost absolute track superiority.
4th lap ever, daughter in car, no insurance available, no accidents or breakdown in the car I built, no comment apart from your obvious expertise puts me to shame, so please tell us why you're qualified to criticise
So what? That car would easily be in the 7's if pushed but some people value things like their car, their money (they're not cheap), their way of getting home and their (and their daughters) life a little more than bragging to someone who's only uploads are someone else's tv show.
More like 9s at best. Agreed though, besides its his first trip to the ring, if he's really pushing it on his first trip, especially in such a nice car, then he's an idiot.
I don't know about the time to be honest - all we can do is speculate until they actually do get a good time clocked.
Most ultima's are over 600bhp and around the 1000kg mark though so I wouldn't bet against it at least matching some of the quick road cars (porsche, GTR, etc) which have a lot less power and more weight.
how was the car shaking like that?was it a factor in the crash?by the way,is the car fixable?i think i would like to see how it looks, simply out of interest.
There is no record by the ultima yet, although a team from the factory went last year to attempt it, the weather spoilt it. It certainly won't be achieved by me as I crashed the car on track here last week, big mess :-(
Having been in an Ultima GTR, with a twin turbo Alfa engine in it, I can without a doubt say it is the fastest and best handling car i have ever been in,
What's you car's spec? Have you done any performance testing yet? Plus how long did your build take?
Looking forward to seeing you nail it sometime next year...perhaps we ought to organise an annual Ultima Nurburgring run via PistonHeads Ultima forum...waddyathink?
The background noise is due to a gear change linkage that has since been welded. The test drive will bring a smile to your face, if it doesn't then you're probably far too sensible. The car I've got is a 625hp supercharged 406ci, but with hindsight I would recommend using one of the LS engines now more easily available and vastly more driveable. There's performance aplenty there with modern reliability and economy. As for the Ultima PH trip, keep watching as it will happen soon enough.
Great first drive - though what's all the background noise?
Have my test drive booked with Ted for beginning of October [:-)]...and took my boys to the factory last weekend - got to sit in the 720 that broke the Top Gear lap record...
Will be ordering my GTR in next few weeks and hoping to start the build not long after Christmas...
Why are you babying that car around the Nurburgring. You could potential outclass anything that has been on that track. Get out there again and do it right this time.
First trip, so better to go steady and try and learn the track a bit, easier to come back again rather than trash the car, also my daughter was with me and usally insists on coming along, so even if you don't want to see it being played safe, I will ensure our safety first, but taking the car as close to my limits as I can is what I built the car for. 800miles each way is a long trip, so maybe next year.
Ahhh, you used the old, "minor in the vehicle" excuss. I can't argue that. Hopefully we'll all have the pleasure of viewing your next video come the following year.
tried using the PS2 to recce the ring but it seems not to give you any reference points to go by, playing computer games is a long way from actually driving there. So much more is possible with this car.
All the dislikes never drove the ring..

Big shame!!! =(
I've just caught up with the Nissan GTR/ Corvette ZR1 battle over Nurbergring and was hoping there would be smug salvation for Europe with the GTR =/

it's a chevy vet engine so what salvation would that be LOL

Nice to see the GTR on the Ring, but very disappointing to be beaten by a motorbike.
Please post another video when you've practised a bit more.

Not just any old minor, THE MINOR, but thanks for the comments and hopefully you'll see a faster more competent lap next year. :)
hoover1959 3 years ago
@hoover1959 On the other hand, the car does over 200 mph so travelling 800 miles would take around 4 hours.
