mark i just bought pocket wizards plus ii here in new york, the question is...is there any way i can use the pocket wizards in asia due to the different frequency
Legend! I have been trying to learn about studio lighting now for a while with moderate success. I have brought books and read various web pages but nothing beats these videos. The way Mark explains this stuff is great and the fact that these videos are free to watch is a luxury i am not going to be wasting. Thank You Mark, You're a LEGEND.
Don't forget about Elinchrom Skyport triggers. They cost less than Pocket Wizards, and are minuscule in comparison to the huge PW. Triggering for metering isn't an issue. You can easily pop the tiny transmitter off the hot shoe and remote trigger from anywhere. 1 PW costs around $180, whereas a trans & receiver *set* of Elenchrom Skyports is $180. Additional receiver are only $110. I have 5 strobes in my home studio. If I bought PWs that's over $900. Instead I spent $620. They work great.
Thanks Mark! what did you use for the master set up for novotron. I am trying to get a pocket wizard for my novas. There were like 3 connections??? Thanks a mill!
Mark, you are a GOD! :) This is EXACTLY what I needed to know for a band hoot tomorrow. Multiple Lights, Seconic Light Meter, and 2 Pocket Wizards. Thank You!!
Because the pocket wizards are supposedly more reliable. But even so for what they are they are extremely over priced. They use the same technology $30 wireless mice and keyboards use. They're just extremely simple radio transceivers.
I have a set of $30 triggers and when they work they are great but I only get the flash to go off about 70% of the time. The other 30% of the time I shoot and get no flash. That gets old very quick. I'm hoping to get some Pocket Wizards soon to get a more reliable setup.
I don't mean to nitpick & this is really more for your own personal information so you can delete this after you read it if you'd like. Pocket Wizard's aren't made by "the Pocket Wizard company" :) Their made by a company called LPA Design which is an American company, based in Vermont I believe. Just, you know.... an FYI thing...
Yes, I too had to go to Radio Shack to get the cable.
The fact that Pocket Wizard gets over $200.00 for a piece of plastic with a simple transceiver inside, and yet, they can't include a $3.00 cable so you can hook the unit up to a strobe right out of the box is disappointing.
There is a cable included for connecting your pocket wizard to a strobe. The 1/8" mono plug (or headphone plug, it's the same thing, different words) to PC cable comes in the box. I own 6.
Awesome tutorial. I sort of knew how it worked together by reading about it, but it's so much better (and easier to understand) to actually see it step by step. Thanks for the video.
I bought the module for the Sekonic work with the PW and I couldn't get it to work. Can you tell me, do you see the 4th icon on the PW as soon as the module is plugged into the battery compartment? Maybe my module is defective.
Yes, you should see the 4th icon immediately. Make sure the module is plugged in securely. If the wireless icon doesn't appear on your sekonic then something is wrong. Normally once you plug in the module everything works instantly.
Great! I was using the ebay trigger Cactus V2. Its very affordable, but it does misfire outdoors and with telephoto lens You can't step back enough. I finally decided to upgrade to 4x PWs and use them with 3 speedlights. I don't want to drag around large profoto strobes!

These videos are great - but why would anyone want to waste money on Pocket Wizards when Alien Bees Cybersyncs and Cyber Commander are out there?

Same here.
The cable I received has a small (camera sych end) and a male end for the pocket wizard.
No way to attach the pocket wizard directly to an Alien bee strobe without an adapter.
I wish Pocket Wizard had explained this or included it with the unit.

the pocket wizard is not the "digital" version of a sync cable.....it is the "wireless" version

Thank you! I was trying to figure if it was the module or the Sekonic itself. I'm going to return the module.
