In the Southern Oceans several years ago a Japanese whaling boat tried desperately to contain a serious fire onboard refusing help despite several foreign boats surrounding it.
I'd put my house on it there were more than a quota or two over limit not only in the bowels of that ship but in every fishing fleet before and since!
I hate to sound flippant but there should be a detailed study on whether Japanese whaling fleets can be sunk as well as others, only for scientific purposes of course.
Nips are full of pretense and shamelessness. Nip savages HATES FOREIGNERS but expect to be treated like VIP in a FOREIGNERS country!! They are cruel hypocrites, from top down!
@jmaxed Really? And what exactly is it they are researching? How do you know they could obtain the same understandings without killing whales? Have you talked to the researchers?
@openblue07 they hold up signs that say like we're checking feeding habits and collecting tissue samples they can get the samples by taking a small boat and using a syringe
@jmaxed But the point of their research is to work out best practice for hunting whales. There are other things they could be obtaining that they need to kill whales for. You seem to be under the impression that whaling has been banned, this is not the case.
What is this row between the Japanese and the Australians? Is it that the Australians are anti-Japanese and vice versa(I think so)? It is somewhat right for every nation to blame Japan for killing our (everyone's) precious whales, but isn't Australia a bit too much into denigrating Japan?
I really don't know much about Aussie-Jap relationships... but it seems to me that something's wrong between the two. I would appreciate if someone could enlighten me on this topic.
"However Australian Foreign Minister Steven Smith has confirmed that "Japan has advised the Australian Embassy in Tokyo that a crew member on board the Japanese whaling vessel fired warning shots." Australian officials in Japan are seeking further information. "
Shots have been fired, the Japanese Embassy admits this, I don't know why everyone jumps to conclusions vs actually doing research, I suppose everyone here's a ballistics expert.
Regardless of how anyone feels about these animals and Japanese whaling "rights", it's foolish to hunt them anyway. Whale meat is dangerously high in mercury and should not be consumed by anyone. Not only are they illegally harvesting whales, but they're poisoning their own people.

ihaveairlockers - healthy? I hear whale has waay more mercury and PCB's than any fish caught off the ocean, ie - they are toxic, because the waters are.
The only part of the whale that has mercury in it is the organs, and here in norway we don't eat that part anyway.
And in any case, the organs of the whales here in norway do not have mercury in their organs. The problem is only associated with Coastal dolphins in Japan and also some fin whales.
It's a japanese problem mostly. Not all whales have mercury in them, and even then it is only the organs.
I am not gullible and silly. My family are whalers here in norway.
Only mercury in the organs? Sorry mate, you surly you do not know that much about heavy metals.
Yes, they are concentrated in some organs,
but they accumulate in the whole body including all edible parts, although in lower concentrations.
But the main thing is that there is no what so ever solid argument for continue the slaughter of endangered and protected species in a modern day society, anyway. It is a disgrace to humankind, and to say Norway.
I am Japanese myself and what I think is that Japan spending huge cost to hunt whales in international water very wrong. What Japanese needs to do is to farm those sea species just off the coast of Japanese mainland. Also, it brings a lot of negative comments in the world if the hunting has done for the wild animals. But for farmed ones, same as cows and chickens, this would not bring any disagreements as long as keep the farm enviromentaly clean.
It is simply not possible. If you would have known anything about marine life, you would known this. Unlike cattle, whales travel the entire surface of the globe in complex patterns, to reach food sources and to find mates. It's a huge part of their behavior and culture as a specie. And to hold them captivated in small enclosure would be like trapping a steppe eagle in carbord box, they would simply die, from enormous stress.

The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society has been the most aggressive and most successful whale-saving organization in the world. Saving whales is what we do best and what we are most noted for. SSCS in the last three decades has ended the careers of 9 illegal whaling vessels saving many thousands of whales.
Now the Japanese go again to kill whales in 2008 for research. When will the peoples of Japan protest this??? Hope the Sea Shepherd can be an even bigger success than last year

Though I don't like whaling, I think anyone should respect other's food cultures. At least, it seems that Japan basically respect foreign food cultures. I think just illegal whaling should be blamed. For example, over 200 illegal whalling a year by Korea is reported. When their illegal whaling was revealed,Korea excused own illegal whaling by lie that whales were caught in their net accidentally. I wonder why SS doesn't attack such Korean illegal whaling.
Because the Korean whaling you speak of is not endorsed and funded by that countries Government. This is an outdated practice, that can only be observed as arrogance by the rest of the world. THIS SENSELESS SLAUGHTER MUST & WILL END!!
I actually agree and its stupid that you have 22 thumb downs. Every single country in the world has something they should be extremely ashamed of. If you're going to blame someone blame the people doing it, not the country or government.
Thanks for your kind comment (: I noticed that I had got 22 thumb downs just now. I was just surprised.... :o I agree with your opinion that it looks so funny. I just guess that many Koreans got angry about my comment :D Do you know another funny fact that many Koreans have even agitated for anti-whaling in Australia in order to do anti-Japan activity? I wonder why they don't blame their own country at first. They are just hypocrites not a true whale lover.
@SkylarkUtopian Oh PLEASE! They killed off all the whales in their seas. Now they go to whale sanctuaries and kill. If a poor black man from Africa went into a sanctuary and killed a chimp or elephant he would be killed. These barbaric, unlawful whalers are getting away with MURDER
@SkylarkUtopian they hunt for 1000 whales each year, and with this happening are whales and other animals that are being hunted and killed are almost extinct. If we as people keep killing these animals in such large numbers are small numbers then what does this leave these animals but to be no longer in exsistance. Marine life plays a large part in the way we live our lives. We need a lot of these animals in order to breathe the air we do, and it helps keep the waters not over poplualted by fish
Long Live Sea Shepherd! So great to read and see so much support for fellow Sea Shepherd followers. I agree with you on loving Japan, Japanese Culture and people. You are a gorgeous lot and have so much to offer the world. Wish your government could see that this is not the way though.
As a native of Iceland I cannot agree with all the Japanese comments on these videos. Sea Shepherd are clearly not pirates or terrorists which is why they operate internationally for decades. Japan should just quit their research whaling and declare it commercial whaling and stop telling lies which damage them even more. If you sell whale meat that you have caught it is commercial whaling! follow Norways example and tell the truth!
I see now that th Solomon Islands have said they have been financed by Japanese whaling money to go to IWC conferences and vote in favour of Japanese whaling correction "RESEARCH".. The truth's coming out, whalers! Japan is great, whaling isn't.

They don't have to kill thousand of whales just to make a research on whale's diet. Nonsense!
They don't need large samples just to do a research on physiology or anatomy of whales.
I know this, because i'm a zoology student.
It is true the fisheries of the world are on decline, but the obvious culprit is human!!! Not whales and dolphins.
We destroy our oceans, We created pollution. we destroy they habitats, we are the culprit!
