@blitzspeer Not the best drummer, you just like his style better. As far as technique goes Bozzio is way ahead. Neal could never play in Zappa's band, UK, The Brecker Brothers band & Missing Persons all in the same 3-4 year period & adapt & do an equally awesome job in each. Some people can't appreciate the complexity of Zappa music but that's allright. Listen to Bozzio on the "Heavy Metal Be-Bop" album by the Brecker Bros. or the Live UK "Night after Night." The guy's an absolute monster.

Ok Neil may not the best and the most flexible but he is great at composing his drum sequences and distinctiveness in a song, I repeat a song. I think that and his amazing musically memory makes him stand out. Dave Weckl I would say is better on ability but please don't be an arrogant douche and tell us that people who don't know drumming are the reasons why Neil is best. He kills Steve Smith even though yes he's good.

Great comment. Too many people, who do not know enough about the drums, think that Neil is the greatest thing that ever played them. You and I both know that it is simply not true. It's just a matter of those folks really paying attention to and trying to execute what drummers like Steve Smith and Dave Weckl are doing.

@TD7516 Actually there buddy, Neil Peart while being a great rock drummer isn't even close to being on the level of Terry Bozzio. Do some research if you're going to say someone shits on someone else. Terry is light years ahead of Neil as far as technical ability goes. I am a huge Rush fan and i love what Neil chooses to play in Rush. But if we're talking flat out skill... Bozzio smokes him.

@DanLetts9 Woudn't you if your wife and daughter died? His drumming is rather soulless now. He never even smiles in concert and plays the same solo for years on end. Bozzio is like a vampire. I think he is nearly 61 now. Totally different drummer. I believe he could play w/Rush but Neil could not play w/Zappa. Peart was innovative and inspiring from 1974-1981. After Moving Pictures I was done. I've seen all these drummers live so I know, and I had a long one on one conversation w/Bozzio in 1991.

After studying with Freddie, NP has still got his elbows stuck way out throwing his hands out of position. Freddy always taught your forearms are a direct extension of your hands and ultimately your sticks. Everything balances on the fulcrum of your thumb and second knuckle of your index finger. Without that you can't execute proper finger control. He needs to keep studying.

I've changed my mind about Neil, toward the positive. He's showing humility and respect and tranquility.

I think, now, he's one of the best players because he continues the journey of being a student of the instrument as well as having arrived as a rock drumming master, in his own right.

His jazz playing is a lot better than a few years ago, so kudos there.
