It's not a surprising fact that an estimated 70% of Afghan's trade is now drugs, or that most Afghani police officers want to be posted on the boarders where they can get kick backs from traffickers. They actually pay to be put on the border.

Drugs move into Russia because that's what they've always done. Besides, many Russians stayed in Afghanistan after the war, and with any trade, links are links and money follows. Don't forget, Russia's still a poor country, especially the Urals.
