  • i like this but one thing i dindt like is that other pepole have guns in it only roland has guns in the gunslinger

  • Maybe they can digitally make Clint younger.

  • Clint may be to old to play Roland, but I think he'd be perfect for his father Steven.

  • IGN ENTERTAINMENT SAID CRISTIAN BALE IS GOING TO PLAY ROLAND

  • Roland is Clint! pity he's too old now

I think Viggo Mortensen would be perfect

  • A 50ish Clint Eastwood would've been so right to play Roland. And if not Clint (perish the thought!), then maybe a 50ish Lance Henriksen or Stephen McHattie would've done just fine. As of today, there might be a handful of actors who could play Roland quite well, but none would be absolutely perfect.

  • "Go then, there are other worlds than these."

  • Viggo Mortensen for Roland.

Don't want to hear anything about Lord of the Rings and his role in it.

Go and watch The Road. Then tell me he isn't right for this role.

  • Curious, i have an important question! What is the orange orb at 1:00 all about? what movie is that from?

  • Oh my god. Russell Crowe, Cristian Bale, HUGH FUCKIN JACKMAN, would take a huge shit on this role, viggo, maybe, but he would just be aragorn again. The Gusnlinger WILL be a less famous actor, for the simple reason that he has to agree to be in a TV series as well. Oh and Guy Pearce was born to play this role.

  • @thescotsman82

    rofl at Guy Pearce.

  • The shotgun was out of place in the trailer.

  • i like hugh jackman for the gunslinger

  • how about russel crowe as roland

  • The guy that played sawyer on Lost would make a great roland. eastwood too old

  • @Treefrogs2 Now that will be an xcellent choice. ;). Staying on Stephen King's books also.

  • if scot weiland can act, he could be a good choice for Rolland...watch velvet revolver's vidoe for "she builds quick machines" and tell me if I'm wrong.

  • @lachessys yes I completely agree! He would look a good Roland

  • what is the name of this song? (not the one at the credits)

    Epic

  • "The Big Gundown" by Ennio Morricone ;)

  • Gotta be Eastwood-as Roland

  • The train might've sailed for Eastwood as Roland. I could easily see him playing Callahan, though. I always saw Callahan as played by James Cromwell, despite the unfortunate wrong turn his character took in the 2004 minseries.

  • @buckleygeneration

    Agree I do.

  • this is a rip off of the unforgiven

  • clint is rolland they got to find a way to make him young again

    hehe

  • Roland.

  • A ROSE IS A ROSE IS A ROSE

  • viggo mortensen would be perfect for roland's part

  • i keep pondering if the first movie should include the first two or three books...or maybe just have it be an entire miniseries on a channel like sci-fi, like The Stand

  • BANGO STANK WAS HERE!!!!!!!!!

  • the one part is from the stand

  • all hail the Crimson king!!!

  • If Clint only could get younger for this part. This is something that ius written for him. All the time I was reading the book I had pictured image Clint as Roland

  • @trolok30 Likewise...all SK Constant Readers know Clint is (& always will be) The Best Roland for these 3 movies. I damn sure wish he was younger like when he played Dirty Harry & Josey Wales.

  • Jim Caviezel for Roland, he would be great. Let the wizards of Industrial Lights and Magic come up with Oy though

  • its wierd i always imagine Oy looking something like an otter

  • Yeah.....like an otter with a raccoons tail...

  • Where is the boy Jake?

  • Please, don't let it be short. It needs to be about about 4 hours long at least and a 7 part series!

It took my so long to read the books, I will be disgusted if The Gunslinger is as short as Lord Of The Rings. Anyone who has read LOTR series knows that you could probably read the series while watching the movie because the books are nowhere near as descriptive as the movies. I hope they do that same inflation for King. He deserves it, after so many movies where shit directors cut everything...

  • jj abrahms is going to do DT!! either as a movie or tv series, but they want to cast Christian Bale as Roland! Stop this from happening!!! Petition against it and vote for Viggo Mortensen!!! DT fans unite, maybe we can make the film version great by stopping that jerk from being in it!!!

  • You will fail.

  • @Ferret1923 If not clint than hugh jackman or maybe even gary sinese. would kinda be poetic justice to have gary as roland and to have jamey sheridan back as flagg (couldn't imagine anyone else playing the part so perfectly.)

  • @Ferret1923 Yes, Vigo would be perfect for Roland.

  • @Ferret1923 they say javier bardem is going to be roland.

  • Wow, the fan trailers seem to want to convey that if they don't somehow visually link Clint Eastwood to Roland/Tower that everyone would be way too fuggin' stupid to "get it." With all due respect to Clint, he and Roland BOTH play into the icon of the loner gunman. Its not the 1970s anymore guys - lets just wait for the movie.

  • Ya..

Clint Eastwood as Roland's father... that would be perfect..

  • Clint Eastwood as Rolands Father would be so fuckin' awesome. Imagine him saying "You've forgotten the face of your father!"

  • i actually think thomas jane could pull off roland.

  • Naaah I don't know... I'd love to see Hugh Jackman as Roland.

  • he's bland actor

  • oh yes. forgot about him. i change my mind lol.

  • is this movie all ready out let me know please i'm a huge stephen king fan he is the greatest

  • i believe using any of todays "big name" actors/actresses would take away some of the magic of the tower. think of it, sitting in the theater and saying "thats the guy from that one movie" or "that kid was in that one thing." having new faces that can be purely associated with this saga is what the tower deserves.

  • i agree completely!!! especially for the main characters. some of the minor characters could be big stars. like clint eastwood actually voicing blaine would be great!!! but roland would have to be a no name.

  • well as long as they are good new actors lol.. if they are crap then whats the point of making the movie? or even a good director and all around staff and crew lol..

  • Patrick Duffy as Oy

  • clint eastwoods retired hasnt he? from acting anyway. i think viggo mortensen would be a good choice

  • i think Hugh Laurie would be a perfect Roland.

  • I've been thinking that for years!! Good call!!

  • OMFG I was actually thinging about it for a few days;D I started to watch "House" after reading "The Dark Tower" and when I saw him I was like...WOW He's a perfect Roland;D These blue eyes... ^^

  • Bruce Willis as Roland Deschain in The Dark Tower, The Gunslinger.

  • Yuotube? -- 2:39

    Good job though.

You know, nobody can play Roland besides Clint. And he's now 15 years too old.

  • Roland's age has a lot of leeway. I think Clint Eastwood is still able to do it.

  • by the time the first movie comes out, eastwood will be 80 if they get working on it quick. it'll take at least 10 years. i think clint eastwood would be lucky to be alive by then

  • oh god yes that would suck, Roland sounding like his balls are in a vice grip, no no no, Id rather like to see vigo mortenson as roland he has the age face and character, not to mention christian bale is not a good actor at all

  • Which is the music at the end?? Ah, and I LOVED this, you maked a PERFECT job!!! I go cry with the images of Clint... *-*

  • "The Return of Ringo" by Ennio Morricone ;)

  • if they ever did this, it would have to be a HBO mini-series our a very long movie series, 9 movies at least all 3+ hours. which would make alot of money for what ever studio picks it up. the character for Roland was created with Clint Eastwood in mind, but clint is most likly too old or would never go for the character. rumors are the Christine Bale will play teh character, but far too young. in anybody should do it , the guy from There will be Blood, Danial Day Lewis, that's it.

  • I agree with everything you have said, 100%.

  • to bad hollywood doesn't work that way...

  • Our production company has already spoke with Stephen King's publicist regarding bringing this Trilogy to film. Stephen has no desire to see this as a movie as it would detract from the story. His opinion is that much of the story's appeal is that the reader must imagine the images in his/her mind and a film would remove that element thus ruining the story. We had already pursued this as a project seven years ago and that was his response.

  • @SistaSocial you are so full of shit. its not a trilogy, you fail you jerk off

  • I read that J.J. Abrams is in talks to direct a this after Lost is done. With Christian Bale as the top runner for Roland.

  • Bale is a little young to play Roland, don't you think? Not too excited about Abrams, either.

I'd really prefer the Dark Tower be made into a big-budget HBO mini-series rather than a feature film. I have no idea how you'd be able to compress the story, even with a sequel or two.

  • well theyre doing both buddy so you got your wish, first a miniseries and then a movie, or vice versa, I do hope they change the ending though, not because I didnt like it but because the movie/series could be made with Roland having the Horn of Eld this time around, that way it satisfies those who didnt like the end and those who were ok with it, dont you think?

  • I think that's an absolutely great idea

  • I like it a lot!!!!!!

  • dude awesome effort man, I would image if they do make the series into a movie/mini series it would be done kind of like a western.

  • I think all 7 books are good beacause they tell one big story

  • this is NO reason for a good book ..

  • great trailer.

i tihink karl urban should play the gunslinger.

  • I think Kurt Russel could pull off Roland and Clint should be Steven. I love Hopkins as Ted and the kid that read Everythings Eventual (Does the Mac commercials) as Dinky. How about Meryl Streep as Rhea, Joaquin as Sheemie (Older version) and Naomie Harris (28 days later) as Susannah.

  • Roland Deschain - Viggo Mortenson Eddie Dean - Johnny Depp Susannah Dean - Halle Barry Jake Chambers - The kid from Terminator 2 Walter O'Dim - Alan Rickman The Tick-Tock Man - Kevin Nash (Wrestler/Actor) Richard Fannin - Christian Bale Susan Delgado - Ali Larter Mia - Angelina Jolie Randall Flagg - Sean Bean Pere Callahan - Sam Elliot
  • Great choices. I was thinking that the actress Rutina Wesley might make for a good sussanah. She plays Tara on the HBO series True Blood.

  • do remember that the kid from terminator two would be way to old for the role but i'm guessing it's just your perfect line up irrespective of age.spot on on halle and viggo but depp as eddy?or kevin nash as tick tock?

  • roland has to be ancient so i think clints perfect for the role. i dunno who else would be cort though, someone older

  • Ennio!

  • I've read numbers 1-6, reading number 7 now.

Until now, my favorite one was 5: Wolves of The Calla, even though they are all great books :)

  • Clint Eastwood or maybe Harrison Ford = Roland

    Halle Barry = Susannah/odetta/detta

    johnny depp = Eddie Dean

kid from bridge to terribithea = jake

father callahan from salems lot = pere

AND THEY NEED TO GET FUCKIN CRACKIN ON THESE MOVIES!

  • i think christian bale should play Roland

  • 20 years ago i would have completely agreed that Eastwood should have played Roland, but the world's moved on since then. I wish that Eastwood would direct Gunslinger though, his gritty and graphic style would be great for that i think. I completely agree about Eddie too, i think Johnny Depp would be amazing fit. As for Roland i Hugh Jackman would be pretty good i saw him in a commercial for Australia and after thinking of this it's a perfect match, of course he would have to look much darker.

  • Eddie Dean = Johnny Depp

    Johnny Depp = Eddie Dean.

    Nuff Said.

  • I say Hue Jackman should play Roland. Clint Eastwood is fucking great, but he is a little too old now. I think he would be a good Callahan

  • Viggo Mortenson for Roland all the way...and It't prly been said a million times but brad pitt would make a great eddie

  • I think Clint could be the father(he'd need a manly stache though), the father of Vigo Mortinsen as Roland. His roles in Hidalgo and Apoloosa ect. (no idea how to spell it) really cement him in my mind as a western hero, to be in the LOTR and a well done Dark Tower series would make him a film icon. Besides, at 50, if the movie was done within 10 years it should be roughly within the aged look of roland as the once handsome now hard looking guys he's descrived as. And he looks like Clint to me.

  • Can't wait 'til the movie comes out. It'll be directed by J.J. Abrams the creator of Lost and Cloverfield!!! :D

  • there gonna start the movie in 2010 or so after the director gets done with LOST or somthing

  • anthony hopkins for father callahan!

  • No. Ted Brautigan shows up in the Dark Tower series. Hopkins should definitely play Ted.

  • I think eastwood has to be in it one way or another, king did say he based roland on clint eastwood, but sadly yeh he is too old now to play him, but what about him playing rolands father? =D also stephen king as the crimson king!

    long days and pleasant nights!

  • He'd had to act as himself, remember he appears in the books?...

  • hmm very true, well maybe he could do two parts? just think about the makeup and stuff hed have as crimson king? i just think it would be a great tribute and cameo for the man whos mind made this whole story real.

  • say true

  • Absolutely Great clip.Pity so many boneheads/kids have to fire off their collectively stupid yaps.Well done.I'd nearly bet most wouldn't go 2 rounds with a swinging door;0)

  • I love the consistency which the lazy, uneducated, or those belonging to the generally stupid category demonstrate whenever unwanted attention is called to their unintelligible rantings. It's always "I don't care about spelling..." or "spelling isn't important." Well, bad news, dumbo. Throughout the world, you will be consistently judged on your ability - or, as in your case - inability to demonstrate the most basic functionality of being able to read and write in your own native language.

  • Get a fucking life man. stop being so anal about people's spelling, THIS IS THE FUCKING INTERNET, and spelling doesn't matter. The only attention that is being drawn here is to assholes like you who try to insult everybody and act like superior douches on the internet because you have no life in reality. What a loser!!!!

  • A loser is someone who can't write in his supposed native language. You're worse, you can't write, but you insult those who can. You have "brain envy." You also make the assumption that other stupid people make. You think since typing 500 words takes you all day, it takes everyone all day. It took me less than 15 seconds to answer this, and I'm off answering another email about not hiring a moron that couldn't write on the internet either. Maybe you know him? Got a life, buddy. You?

  • You should really consider listening to yours more often. You need one.

  • GRANDE!!! Bel lavoro.

  • Here's an idea...animate it. The whole series.

  • I could see that.

  • No. but from the looks of things you need one.

  • can some one help me, Im looking for "song of Sussannah" but the bloke at the shop said it was out of print, all the others were on the shelf. Can some one tell me WTF is going on. BTW I live in the UK.

  • Hi Jonathan, I got it from my local library no probs mate.

  • nothing, the guy was drunk. Out of print? go to a serious book store and u'll get it no probs

  • Bollocks its out of print. It should still be available to buy..

  • If the Dark Tower is adapted to film, I'd rather see it as a 7 season TV series than 7 movies...why? Mmm, I feel like they could do a better job exploring the boosk with 20 hour-long episodes per book instead of one two hour movie. I also doubt that The Dark Tower is quite popular enough for 7 movies...Harry Potter worked, but even the Dark Tower doesn't match HP's popularity (even though it should surpass it).

  • only movie adaptations i thought were good were stand by me and the shining, most are b level. not very good odds for DT

  • I always thought of him as the actor who played hidalgo an aragorn. cant think of his name

  • Vigo Mortensen. If you liked the dude chek out AHistory Of Violence. And yes he good be grate as Ronald!

  • dude. Ronald? dude . . . .

  • This is one series i hope they dont fuck up with a movie. they are great books leave it that way. But im sure some unoriginal money hungry jackoff is going to try and get the rights because he or she cant be oringinal and make thier own shit.

  • stephen king already sold the rights for a movie for 19 dollars to the producers of "Lost". so yea, the movie is supposed to come out in the future.

  • Nay, for Clooney is crap, ye ken?

  • clooney for roland, consider it, hear me i beg!!!

  • Nay, for Clooney is crap, ye ken?

  • Nice work, apparently I hear it may well be a film, but a long while in the m

    aking.

  • god damtit why did clint eastwood have to age, he would of been so fucking perfect, cant we clone him or something?

  • i reallt really disagree. i dont think clint eastwood is goor for him at all. he's way too cheesy to be such a badass

  • Yeah well you can't even spell properley so your opinion carrys little weight.

  • Ha! You spelled 'properly' and 'carries' wrong!

  • Very well done!

  • I wonder how they would do Roland's quick draw like they describe it in the book? That would be awesome in itself to see how they pull that off, say true. Hopefully, they don't end it like they did Stephen King's new movie The Mist, say sorry. Anyway, good job, could of been better on the ending song part of it, but other than that not bad.

  • It's likely to be a TV series, say true! These days, (and when one considers the length of the seven books) those shows could have as much potential as films.

  • they could hire the world record gundrawer to do it =D .113 seconds to draw both revolvers, fire a round from each into a target at 20 feet and holster em again

  • Totally not fast enough. :)

  • I know, Clint Eastwood could direct The Gunslinger.

  • What about directors? Should we use one for the whole saga, or a different one for each book, since the books have different styles. Tarantino would be good for the Gunslinger, Peter Jackson for Waste Lands and/or Wizard and Glass. Can't think of any others.

  • Spielberg has to do one has to and susan as rhea yes or bette midler

  • Maybe George Lucas could do one as well?

  • Unfortunately.... HELLO NO! NEVER!

  • Scorsese.

    Just imagine that.

  • Hmmm... good idea there. Btw, it'll probably by a TV series rather then movies.

  • who would play rhea? Orlando bloom as young Roland unfortunately the boy from sixth sense is too old to play Jake maybe one of those zack and cody twins the skinny one the perfect Jake would have been the boy from the fast and furious tokyo drift when he was younger and the lotto guy for blaine scarlett johansson is Susan thandi newton as susannah or the girl who played denzels wife in John Q.

  • Susan Sarandon or Glen Close in makeup as Rhea?

  • Orlando as young Roland? I think not. No way. He has neither the guts nor guile.

  • Jessica Alba as Susan Delgado. Catherine Zeta Jones or Angelina Jolie as Gabrielle.

  • James Earl Jones or Billy Gibbons as Blaine the Mono. The kid from Sixth Sense as Jake. (especially if you get Bruce Willis for Roland) Glenn Danzig as the Tick Tock Man. Christopher Walken or Al Pacino as Randall Flagg/Richard Fannin. Another good Roland would be the guy who played James Bond in the new Casino Royale. Halle Berry or Beyonce as Susannah. Matt Damon, Leo Dicaprio or Ewan McGregor as Eddie. Kevin Costner as Roland?

  • Bruce Wilis as Roland? or maybe Hugh Jackman? It would be a nice inside joke to have Clint Eastwood play Father Callahan, since he was Dirty Harry Callahan.

  • I think the man who played Callahan in the made for TV version of salems lot should play Callahan he did him justice the first time around no English actors in any parts I have nothing against England I just feel as JK Rowland felt that she only wanted English actors to play in the Harry Potter series to add to the authenticity but if their were any Viggo is a good choice or the guy that played Wolverine I forget his name and I think he's Australian

  • Hugh Jackman was Wolverine.

  • Opinions?

Daniel Day-Lewis as Roland, Viggo as Martin Broadcloak or maybe Lance Henricksen, Eddie- maybe Mat Damon(with makeup)or Ewan McGregor (see Trainspotting), Angela Bassett as Suze, Jake would be an unknown. I'm curious about the Tick Tock Man, Gasher(I'm thinking William Sadler in a lot of makeup), Jeff Bridges as Stephen Deschain (see his new look in Iron Man, he could do it), maybe John Malkovich as John Farson and Angus Scrimm as the Crimson King (book 7).

  • those are pretty good choices, but i go with viggo as roland, maybe nathon fillion as eddie. Gina torrez as suze (yeah there's a firefly connection there). Martin/Walter/Flagg would be the same guy who played flag in the Stand. Cant remember his name but he was great.

  • Sorry but I hated Flagg in the series. He was played by Jamie Sheridan. Roland has a gravelly voice. Viggo (though I really like him) has too much of a light voice. Even in Hidalgo.

  • hehe we'll have to agree to disagree on Flagg. I still think Viggo would be a great Roland though. He may not have the voice that we associate with Roland but I think he'd capture Roland's essence. If only Clint was younger lol. He truelly is Roland. Though i could see him as Cort too.

  • True. Someone also mentioned Clint as father Callahan. Now THAT would be cool. King coudl put him in the movie as homage to his image as Roland but just in a different role. With his white hair (Unforgiven) he would look like a great Callahan. Then again, so would Lance Henricksen. He has an amazing presence. I'm still trying to think of the Tick Tock Man. Although I still like Gerard Butler as Cort (300) but without the accent. lol.

  • I still think Callahan should remain the same and Clint could still play Roland since no one really know how old roland is but he is old for all we know he reached the tower hundreds of times and if Stallone could do another Rocky and Harrison could do another Indiana why not have an old man as the lead.

  • Lace would be a great choice for father callahan i agree. I had another idea about Viggo as the man in black. lol (see Prophecy where is plays lucifer) I'd just want Viggo somewhere in the movie damn it! lol

  • But wait, Viggo as Walter O'Dim, Martin Broadcloak or Randall Flagg? Cuz after the re-write, the man in Black is no longer Martin. I'd like to see him as Flagg.

  • I think Hugh Jackman would be a good Roland since Roland was based on Clint Eastwood and Hugh Jackman played Wolverine and in the comics Wolverine always reminded me of Eastwood.

  • Alot of the gunslinger's victims should be actors that we dislike so it would be fun to watch.

I picture Susannnah played by Angela Bassett.

Carrot top could play the guy in the desert with Zoltan.

Could Eddie be played by Seth Green or John Cusack?

Jake has to be an unknown.

Roland could be done by Daniel Day-Lewis only.

The man in black? John Malkovich could be him but I like John Cusack or the singer of Rammstein.

  • Your suggestion for Roland is the best ever.

  • I think Roland should be Viggo mortenson or chris ferguson.

    Eddie could be edward Norton

    susannah halle berry

    jake ?

man in black wouldn't matter since i think his face would be changing constantly

  • ABSOLUTELY Day-Lewis as Roland!!! I always saw Ewan McGregor as Eddie after seeing Trainspotting. Bassett as Suze, yep. No Seth Green. Love him but he's too short. How'z about Lance Henricksen as Walter O'Dim or Martin Broadcloak. Or maybe Viggo as RF! After seeing him in the Prophecy as Lucifer!! He's chilling. What about the Tick Tock Man? Someone huge like maybe Tyler Mane (Sabertooth). Suggestions?

  • Ok here's a poser for ya, haven't seen anyone talk about this character. Who would play the man in black? aka Marten, aka Walter, aka Flagg?

  • Al Pacino

  • hahahahhahahahaha you win the internet

  • Personally, I say that Viggo Mortenson would be a good Roland, but I'd rather have some unheard of actor who can make the part his own. Eastwood should play Pere Callahan, if only because of Dirty Harry.

  • A lot people seem to be against the idea of halle berry playn susannah.. If you look at monster ball (and not just the sex scene) she does have that inner wildness/vulnerablility that surmises the fractured mind of Mrs Dean.. I agree with you IronCape, an unknown would be a great option as Roland (and perhaps most of the characters)but finding a guy who encapsulates all our visions of ole tall and ugly is a mighty big task,

  • Well, let's be honest here, no movie will ever really have our image of Roland of Gilead, because then, he'd be pretty old, ugly, and a bit of a stick. That's not really a draw to a mainstream crowd. Mortenson would be very good for the role, and would draw a crowd. Halle Berry is far too mainstream to be Susannah, Mortenson is just mainstream enough to be a draw. It's the role of Jake that I'm most interested in, because there are only so many child actors to choose from, save an unknown.

  • I've always seen jake as a young river phoenix type but to be honest there isn't that many good chld actors around who could pull off the needed maturaity whilst being essentially a kid who kicks ass. I can't wait for dear old eddie dean to materialise though, I think over all his character will be the most fun to play,

Id even try out for it myself!
