Never realized this was the original version. I think the shorter one with the screeching guitar intro and the wah-wah overdub has more bite to it but that's just me
@jookle1 I've never heard a better outro. I've seen Squire pull it off live (on dvd!) and it's breathtaking. Pretty sure the gig will be one to tell the grandkids about. Look forward to seeing your post on how amazing it was.
@SpireaXY it'll be a long time until i have grandkids i'm only 16 haha but i don't think i'll ever forget the gig, can't wait to see them going to be the best gig i'll have been too which is saying something haha

Riverside Newcastle June 1989, day after Glastonbury finished. Shattered from weekend excesses but made it to the gig, after buying a ticket for a tenner off a tout. 350 in the audience. Best concert ever? maybe.
I'm a metal fan, I love the way Metallica et al put a tune together, with solo's, instruments, effects & vocals, this arrangement is right up there, a beautiful chorus.....:0)
Im 13, sitting here listening to this song getting stoned at a house part, whilst all the others are listening to some temporary R&B Shit, Long live Mad-chester! x
Back in 2001, I got a new neighbour here in Canada. I started hanging out with him and some of his mates, as they were always round there with a joint. They used to congregate in his garage, beers in hand, with a car stereo pounding away in the drive playing guns n roses. one day one of 'em asks me if i like "the roses", so i laughs and says hang on a mo, and went and fetched my copy of turns into stone. by the end of the summer, i had to recover my cd from their car stereo. played all the time!
@jeffersisalegend I love The Stone Roses and I've only recently turned sixteen and I have listened to The Stone Roses for a while now, yeah I admit the first time I listened to them is on Green Street. Ian Brown is like a god to me. So it's proven not all under 20's listen to modern music. To be fair I hate modern music I like, Morrissey, The Smiths, The Levellers, Nirvana, Oasis etc
@steb0987 Reni only used a 3-piece kit; he used the floor tom-tom whilst passing his arms over for the snare beat, as well as bopping out the bass and high-hat. He also provided backing vocals when doing all that live! Check out the Blackpool Live performance to get an idea; type in "THe Stone Roses Elephant Stone" on youtube search to see it.
Wow, I've never heard this version before and I likes it! I bought the album as soon as it came out and never much listened to radio so this is great! Thanks =)
I am 17 and stone roses are my favourite band,I remember listening to "elephant stone" last summer and tears were coming out of my eyes no matter how hard I tried not to cry
Only Reni can play this, and I don't think they ever played it live again after he left the band. Imagine Robbie Maddix trying to play this, he just wouldn't have a clue.
me mates dad used to work with squire when he was propa young working in the pub, always tells us about how he used to come in going "Aww eyar pal sorry im late just been out with the band written some proper fucking sweet riffs you should here them the-" shortly followed by "shut up and get to work john" also mani nearly ran over me pal from college not so long ago haha ian i see you everywhere but yet to find reni and see what mischief hes up to nowadays!!
@Motorhed95 Yes, sublime really is the only word that can describe this track, especially Reni's drumming. It's definitely one of their best, especially this long version.
Damn, I wish I was born 20 years earlier so I could of seen these live at the Hacienda on a good E....... But instead I'm from a generation that happy slap defencles old woman whilst listening to an overpaid rapper.......

It could very well be. Unfortunately i don't play guitar so i'm not sure of how likely it is.
On a side note, i'm after learning this on drums.
In that God-Like intro, is it ONLY done on Floor tom & Snare, or is it floor, snare, other toms & bass?

@steb0987 Oh ok. I would say definitely Floor tom & Snare only, but I'm no genius on the drums either.
