@luvyellowroses1 ......... just like status quo's "pictures of matchstick men" .... whoever the bass player was, in my opinion, helped make that song great (not taking away from any of the other members) ..... and i wonder if they got rid of him, or he just quit ..... does anyone know the history on that particular point? .... please type me something, if you know, tks!
@luvyellowroses1 well i'm not sure "being human" should b equated to being selfish, it would be nice to see the generous side of human beings more, I read Kelly was paid about 90,000 per year as a elo employee (74-81) i think, not sure what the others were paid, I believe Bev B. had a bigger pc. of the elo pie.. but I'm sure Jeff could have afforded to reward "his mates" for there years a service, elo sold over 50 million records and sold out all of there live show's what was J. L. thinking?
@sweetbrowneyedlady those guys (Jeff L. Kelly G.) were the best I ever saw in a live concert I wonder if Jeff took Kelly for granted and when elo ended Jeff should have given the guy (a nice send off check (1 million) but NO he made him beg, threaten to sue) who was a integral part of elo even if it was all Jeff's writing, they all knew Jeff was the master writer and they let it be. but without Kelly there was no elo in my opinion. In the end Jeff gave him 450,000 I lost some respect for J.L.
@mreloo --I also lost some respect for J.L. Kelly was the best thing to ever happen to Jeff. He put his heart and soul into every performance to make ELO the great band that it was. All the band members together is what
@sweetbrowneyedlady Got to agree on the harmonies in early Move/ELO. I wasn't aware Kelly died...I just thought Jeff Lynne turned ELO into a one man show, sort of like Mark Knopfler did with Dire Straits. I missed those strings in the late 70's when Lynne decided to turn ELO into a synth pop studio band.
Worth mentioning that Bev Bevan never got the respect he deserved as a drummer, until he was invited to tour with Black Sabbath for a couple of years in the 80's.
I just heard this on the radio on the way home from work. Cranked it up and rolled the windows down. Had to look it up on Youtube and listen again. ELO rocks and I'd give my left "you-know-what" to go back in time to where the REAL music used to be....not this Justin Bieber "I can't figure out which way my friggin hair is going" crap..or the Lady Gaga (gag would be better) crap, that kids have for choices nowadays....God, I'm turning into my parents....
for me, the band was the band, not the individuals in the band. seems i've always tried to stay out of the fray and bullshit that goes on between band members. fleetwood mac. rumours, best album on many levels due to the nonsense in their lives but other than they were all sleeping together and breaking up, i knew nothing else, and still know nothing else. and don't care to. elo was and is elo. jeff lynne is jeff lynne and very talented on his own.
Sorry, just not the same without the slide guitar. Couldn't they afford to buy one outside the studio? Weird. Maybe didn't want to hire one outside a session player.
@Yousuckmycox this from a person who lives in is mothers basement, and plays video games and thinks he may get "lucky" someday (but won't) he'll just have to settle for what his mom tried to "teach" him (but injured herself laughing)
Nah, but really, the Velvets came out in 1964, and ELO didn't form until 1971, so together they kinda bookend the Beatles lifespan....Who would a thunk it.
this version doesn't do the song justice.... the studio version is soooooooooooo much betta....another reminder that it is so tough to follow the album with the live stage
@zzchristoph I don't disagree. But there is something about a live version that stimulates the senses....:) My all time favorite from the Best Band....
lol funny how we all know the lyrics and the song tunes, but then when people ask us what it is and who it's by. Were clueless lol, I didn't know this song was by ELO till I was like 14
@sledhill bollocks matey.. you seen them live, i have and believe me they are brill, and which act ever sounds as good live as in the studio... only queen
One thing you have to remember specifically about ELO was their albums were brilliantly produced, and even guys that hated them would listen because the sounded different. "Out of the Blue" really stood out in a horrible way, but Lynne really shoved analog tech as far as he could then. But instead of doing that I would have preferred a '66 or '67 sound. Later, so did he.
The digital age has an entire generation of people whose ears are effectively wrecked.
One of my favs ,every !!! Excellent band. Words come to mind - Great,Intelligent,Rockin. Weird combo . Not too many bands I would call intelligent except Boston, ELO, and Rush.

Right arm Spiderdargon. That is a freakin' disgrace. Jeff Lynne is the greatest thing to happen to rock music in the last thirty years. He dragged it back from the abyss after all the self important rock concept albums of the seventies. Truly, would you rather listen to Yes or ELO, ELP or ELO, Mike Oldfield or ELO. There really is no contest.
ELO met and exceeded all qualifications eons ago. I think its a clique over there at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. I've written to the president and argued my case a few times. All I can do is thank God that I've been fortunate enough to have been exposed to ELO in the 70s, and that we can enjoy them so much, you know?
All it goes to show is how irrelevant the "Hall of fame" really is. There has not been a better record producer / rock artist / singer songwriter than Jeff Lynne since Sir Paul himself. The Hall of Fame is a laughing stock without his induction.
Of course its all opinion but I think the people have spoken already when it comes to Jeff Lynne (and John Lennon and David Bowie come to that) I wonder why the "Guardians of the Hall of Fame" are so reluctant to acknowledge the contributions of these rock legends? Makes you think there is some type of politics involved.
Agreed that it is a shame that the bands you've mentioned are not included in the Hall. I'd also add The Cars and Styx as others very deserving of that honor but for some unknown reason not inducted.
this was my very first concert i ever went to

Er, John Lennon, David Bowie? It's all opinion, you know...

The Rock & ROll Hall of Fame honours what else? Fame-- not talent.

The Rock Hall Of Fame is a joke! They induct Madonna and Run Dmc but leave out ELO, Boston, Rush, Chicago and Def Leppard!!
spiderdragon1969 2 years ago 81
Wow I didn't know that. Rush is the best band ever! I'm gonna burn the hall of fame to the ground.

I think the Sex Pistols were supposed to go in the RRHOF but Johnny Rotten(Lydon) said, SCREW YOU ! I agree, it's a joke.

Agreed that it is a shame that the bands you've mentioned are not included in the Hall. I'd also add The Cars and Styx as others very deserving of that honor but for some unknown reason not inducted.

Rush, ELO, Styx...wtf rock and roll hall of fame my ass.
