Yeah.. I own a jtm60 3x10 combo I bought new. Installed a small fan (You cannot hear the fan at all - even with the amp - plugged in and "On" - and everything else in the room totally silent.
I'll dime it for hours at gigs, and it operated flawlessly. A poor design with an extremely easy "fix" that sounds outstanding!!
i have this amp that i play with a 1994 fender made in japan stratocaster with lindy fralins in it. Anyway I find the drive channel to be incredibly bassy, I normaly have the mids and the trebble all the way up and the bass all the way down and its still to bassy. Maybe my tubes are gone. I used to have an old les paul copy, before it got smashed in half at a flat gig and had the same problem. Clean channel rules though
i own a '95 jtm 60 1 x 15." I rigged a baseboard booster fan from Home Depot to the bottom of the cage under the tubes and have had no problems with the amp. the overheating problem is fixable
i Had one several years ago, it was my first valve amp and I was in heaven. trouble was they run too hot and all sorts of problems develop, similar heart aches with the JTM30 'cept not so bad!!! BUT they can be modded and I've just bought a used JTM30 2x10. It's amazing , I honestly believe that Marshall has nailed the clean tone problem that they used to have. I.E> No Marshall had a decent clean tone until the JTM seies.
My Tele just shimmers when played through this JTM30 like my '56 Goldtop
Just adding, isn't it nice to hear a musician who is playing (obviously accomplished) not to show off and blaze away in an attempt to impress us all with his musical dexterity but to let us hear how great the amp sounds.
Hey, had some trouble with mine again but figured it out. Heat went up into the chasis and killed the bridge rectifier. Had it replaced but was still getting volume drop so I put a cheap clip-on fan on the back, aimed it up at the power tubes and it worked! No cracking noise or volume drop.
i have a jtm60 3x10 as well. they only made them one year. just keep an eye on the tubes, they get hot and the heat causes problems with other functions. other than that they sound great.
No, the big problem with these amps is the placement of the power tubes (new or not) where the heat has no where to go but destroy everything around them (it's on all the forums). A lot of people wire in fans and remove the back cage on these, that and replace the under-rated capacitor which causes sporadic volume drop after a half hour of play. They are known as one of the most problematic amps Marshall has made.
Great Amp !! great sound !

Trick: Plug a jack between send and return of the parallel fx loop, and turn up to max the parallel mix. You will get extra bass.

When your tubes start to glow bright red, that is not the amp that is doing that. It just means you need new power tubes. Try it and see if it helps.
