  • Riven is so ahead of its time.

  • our teacher used to play this for us in grade 6 lol

  • Myst sucked, Riven wasn't much better.

  • Why the hell is there a levitating golfer doing a screen transition?

More importantly, why is navgtr such a tool?

  • Press mute to improve video quality.

  • @Alexc3217 Won't help much. There's still the floaty golf dude transitioning your screen.

  • Haaaaah he says all this about "slow screen transition" I have a 6 year old computer that flips through the frames faster than you can blink your eyes

  • @ajbboom He's playing it on a Playstation, which would explain why everything's moving slower than molasses during the winter.

  • Me and my dad started to play this game like two years ago, when we had finished Myst and we gave up after some time. I need to finish it.

  • the only frustrating part of this game is having to run around so much

  • Golfer transition? God, did they just hit random when doing the montage? Unprofessional all the way, navgtr.

  • I remember playing this, but I sucked because I was so young. I rather of watched my dad play it lol.

  • storywise best one in the series, but the puzzles were too far fetched. it took me months before i realized i could crawl through the vent to get to gehn's lab, i kept telling myself, ''it just can't be that 'simple',''.

  • The review would've been alot better had he used the Mac or PC version.

  • I played this when i was 4

  • Best games ever. It seems that back then you were able to make a simple game that made a huge impact, and didnt even need good graphics, though for its time myst and riven had great graphics.

  • I'm only 13 years old I played this when i was just 4 years old. You may not think so at this age I could understand it. But i could.

This guy is a a fucking prick! I don't think he knows much of what his even talking about >:0 TERRIBLE REVIEW

  • same here

  • He's so dumb, this guy! What the fuck! Of course it's slow... you see in Exile you wanna play because it's mysteriously/roleplay act. Not some stupid - go fast-can't do anything else- than play, - act. It's so stupid.

  • Love riven! :D

  • That pisspoor review/overview of Riven was actually one of the worst I've seen/heard to date. Its like your trying to rate the game with todays technology. Back then this game was top-notch. People that don't like these games are softhead FPS only players. Puzzles hurt their brain, turning it soft. My head is hard.

  • Yeah, good point. Riven is the best game back in time. FOR SURE. I CAN SWEAR TO IT.

  • yeah these games are of a different generation. it's just like older generations trying to explain to younger ones how amazing the new technologies were to them

it's hard place to go back to. b/c it's been 15 yrs of faster, better, stronger game play. How many games could survive these days with virtually no characters to interact with, no bad guys to mow down. Just exploration, reading, discovering, and an eerie feeling of something larger at play. When i was young, Myst was exhilirating

  • Gaming has become very sterile over the past 8 years. The only improvements are aesthetic, but now we are at a point where it doesnt have the wow factor anymore.

  • @TheStinkyHindu Yeah, that seems to be a problem these days. People don't seem to want to think when they play a game and that's what makes the Myst games so great. Puzzles and story shouldn't be underrated like that. As for the "slow" gameplay this guy mentions, I never had a problem with it - gave the player more time to get immersed in the world of Riven.

  • OK, what's with the whole, "motion shots not part of actual play" business? I remember the maglev rides and cart ride etc. really well! There were a ton of motion shots- and I kinda thought it looked pretty 3-d...

  • All that means is that they were not rendered in real time but were more like movies

  • He's right. It's a cut scene and there's no actual gameplay involved.

  • No, he's wrong. How can you be on for that shit? Dude, this was the best game back in time, AND it still IS, Back in time, for sure.

  • I'm not saying it was the worse game ever, I'm just saying it's a cut scene. I've played the game five times in a row and I know cut scenes when I see them.

  • The backgrounds are pre-rendered, thus drawn backgrounds with animation on top, it's not really what I'd consider a cutscene.

  • the guy talking got beat up in high school

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAAH!! AHHAHAHAA!!

  • (cont'd) The only reason it would take any measurable amount of time to send a cursor across the screen or move to the next image is if you have a shitty computer, which I think this guy does. When I want to, I can really zip through the landscape, although it's much more fun to take it all in.

  • @digama0 yeah....and he didn't even talk about the lighting mode where you can skip down stairs and stuff.

  • @digama0 The gameplay footage of Riven was taken on the PlayStation.

  • WTF is this guy talking about? Motionless? Static? Boring? What is he smoking? Riven is, to date, the BEST GAME I HAVE EVER PLAYED. No joke. It is incredibly immersive, to the point where you can really imagine yourself being there. The videos are just the icing on the cake. (More)

  • Riven on DVD? Where? Where??? :)

  • Riven on DVD rules. No loading and disc swapping FTW.

  • That disk swapping was stupid indeed, yet the game was[/is] great.

  • You can actually avoid the disk swapping if you copy the .MHK files to the Riven folder on disk.
