Please do not assume that I'm comparing the lyrics of today's rap music to jazz music. Trry to focus squarely on the RHYTHM and BEATS. If you were to at least try to focus on the rhythm, swing, and beats, you would discover that rap music indeed has a lot in common with jazz music, which, by the way, were both created by African Americans as was gospel and rhythm & blues. So I don't why it would be far fetched to think that these genres just might have musical characteristics in common.
How can you possibly compare one of the most talented and most amazing singers of all time, with WORTHLESS rap-"music"? I find it quite funny ;) No offence.
I respect your very narrow-minded opinion of music in general; however, if you listen closely, there's a swing, rhythm, or "flow", if you will, to the way Fitzgerald sings this song. I'm a lover of all music. That is why I am able to make these distinctive observations of music that crosses musical genres. In fact, any true lover of music and true fan of Ella knows that Ella did not just sing "jazz music". Ella sang blues, gospel, rhythm & blues, and she could seriously flow.
It's not narrow-minded. I own 2000+ cd's, all kinds of genres and singers... i KNOW music.
Ella sang pretty much all kinds of styles, i KNOW that. I own 50+ cd's of her. But as much as I love Ella, Jazz in general and all kinds of genres, I could NEVER make the comparison of Ella and her flow, with rap music. It doesn't make any sense at all.
Rap-music of today can NOT be classified as "Music", in my opinion. It's repulsive, awful and to me it sounds agressive and violent.
Thanks for the reply, but you've completely missed the point of my responses because you're so intent on expressing your disdain for rap music in general. But I have not compared this song to rap music of any particular time period. Regardless of your opinion of rap music today, rap music at its essence is just a poem in motion. And a good rhyme flows and keep in time. You can snap your fingers to it because it swings and has a beat. And that's what I recognized in this particular song.
@chermaster85, yo you gotta check out a video called "Louis Armstrong Rapping"... I think you'll see just how closely jazz/swing rhythms and sensibility is very much the brother/sister of today's hiphop/rap music. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that jazz helped give birth to rap. Check it out...it's pretty tight. The juice is in the groove, whether you use melody or spoken word poetry....Dig.
I think I just listened to 2:51 to 3:01 about 50 times! That is one of the most incredible vocal phrasing and intonation I have ever heard! Amazing!!! Ella Queen of the not one note. EVER!
I have the whole concert. It's great and the sound on it is amazing. Few people know that the audio was used for the Pablo release of Stockholm 66. Other portions were from a radio performance.
Back then white people were as racist as they can be, but they'll still listen to black singers like Ella everyday. Beautiful voice, amazing performer.
this is real music............she sings so easy ..its almost shes playing wiht the band and the microphone.love her
