You could always tell the true stoners in 74 because we would fast forward the 8 track to hear this passing over radar love. I don't think the guys could deny that they had listened to Dark Side of the Moon a few times before writting it.
saw them in 78 i think when they opened for terrible Ted in Roanoke Va. also with another band called "UFO". awesome show. one of the best ive ever seen i think.
We got cheated on local radio-played radar love-good song-they DIDN'T play the rest of this timeless and awesome album.Wonder if Pink Floyd was jealous?
I saw this fantastic band 4 x in Switzerland in 1971 - 1972 (Lausanne - Fribourg - Fiesch (near Zermatt) and Rolle - every concert was great, I remember specially the one in Rolle (at the Casino), a small hall beside the Leman Lake.
saw this show the night it aired - DKRC. From that evening forward, I proceeded to collect every song this band ever recorded. They were a pleasure to hang out with in Cujyk and Nijmegan in 2001 - God Bless Golden Earring and I wish to hell I could locate this show on DVD - have a crap copy on wobbly VHS - please write me on YT if you know where to acquire
I love Golden Earrings Progressive Rock from the 70's or until 'Cut'. This song is a prime example of what they were capable of in or out of the studio...This is one of the BEST Videos on YouTube.....THANK YOU!
I love the Dutch bands I've heard.I'm a rocker & love Golden Earring but I listen to Pussycat very often now also, what a voice Millie has. Although I must admit when I was younger I wouldnt have bought their records. Now I'm older & appreciate different music styles. GR was always one of my favourites, brilliant band.
Hadn't listened to this in a while but thanks to MP3 players I now have recreated my music library after losing my record collection oh so many years ago. I didn't realize how much I missed this music and now I'm playing it on a regular basis. I just can't get the guitar pieces out of my mind and will wake up un the middle of the night humming them.
By the way: on the concert site Wolfgang's Vault, people now can watch a concert from this tour and line-up (Robert Jan Stips on keyboards). It's a stunning concert filmed at Winterland, San Francisco - 1975 with everyone in top form, but especially George Kooymans' performance is a feast for the ear and eye.
I can't place a link, but you can find it under concert videos and then search for Golden Earring.
Damn, I forgot how great these guys was. I got the Moontan LP when it came out years an years ago, and still have it, but I aint got a vinyl record players, Thank God for Itunes :). Sheer Class. Thanks for posting.
"Vanilla Queen", "Candy's Going Bad", "Suzy Lunacy", "Just Like Vince Taylor", "Are You Receiving Me?", "Radar Love"----Moontan is a rock classic! GE are another great band that have never been considered for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
he played a solid gold flute one if the first to electricfy and then bowie with the sax , seen them at the allen theatre in cleveland 70s,noke cleveland
great band, saw them with outlaws and lynard skynard 76 ?.in cleveland (richfield) oh. one of best concerts i had ever seen,.at the end of the show they all came out and jammed ,five lead gituars going at it.just fucking awesome!
I fell in love with Golden Earring's music when I heard this on CHOM FM in Montreal Canada. I bought Moontan. It's great to hear it done in concert in a form almost like the original off the album, even if the sound level is a little low.
I just love reading this stuff. I love Earring but seem to be alone and adrift in culturally bereft Bulgaria (I am a Scot working abroad). I saw Earring at Xmas in Kerkrade NL and they were amazing. All the classics Except Vanilla. Was interested to read tvbibo's posting.
Thanks for posting this. One of the best songs of alltime. Nice version! I always liked the interaction between Kooymans' guitar and Stips' keyboards. A shame the outro isn't complete though.
Danelectro Cowhorn Bass. Saw them in the 70s in Cleveland, OH on mushrooms and quaaludes. Excellent show, 3 other bands opened including Savoy Brown, and Grand Funk Railroad!!!
Vanilla Queen was part of the setlist, until the late nineties,it just mesmerized the audience...The whole venue went dark and then those hypnotizing footpedal-keyboard opening sequence kicked in.Rinus (bass) plays that live with his feet.Only light was a single wite beam on the glitterball. It was so moving, for everyone; an old hippie fainted, and got carried away by security According to George Vanilla Queen needs to be revamped for it to return on setlist of electric gigs.
Vanilla Queen was going to be the first single to be pulled of the Moontan album, Radar Love was thought to be too "disco"....and then the band changed their mind and Radar Love became their anthem, and is part of every concert.
I remember seeing them openup for Frank Zappa & the Mothers in Little Rock Arkansas. It was probably this tour. My cousin & myself just got caught smoking pot by my uncle who kicked our asses. He let us go to the show cause we already spent I think it was our 10 dollars between us for tix. ! Un fortunately or fortunately however you look at it we were totally straight no weed oranything. Oh yeah, Zappa was awesome too. Thanks for the awesome memories

Such an unusual cool and confident band (for a Dutch bunch).
One of the few bands,we Dutch don't have to be embarrassed about.
Barry, apart from his Jagger fixation, here with the Dan Armstrong plexiglass guitar, made famous by keith Richards.

Gerritsen was absolutely devastated when his Danelectro was stolen at the end of the 1978 tour.
He now plays Vox Humana basses that have the Longhorn shape but are better to intonate and are better build than the originals.

I had to see these guys 4 times in the 70's. True artists. I think George is a very under-rated guitarist.
Peace,

just a question... Who's the keyboardist?
What's the scoop on this guy?
the Moody Blues had a keyboardist... but, usually you see only the four guys on the album.

It's Robert Jan Stips. Well known for the Dutch bands Supersister and especially the Nits.
