They actually held up the original flag with their bare hands while the british fleet shelled them! They were given a choice to lower when they did not the british fired upon the flag which took several direct hits! They stood in direct fire and held up our flag when one was killed another took his place untill there was a pile of bodies living and dead all holding up Old Glory! Makes you look at it little different doesn't it?
@GoingConstitutional dude i was just there today and that totaly did not happen thay open fire on the fort and the flag was on the pole and we beat back the british
