I think that it is worse than that. I don't think that Jesus' friends believed that he was dead. They placed Jesus body in a tomb, instead of burrying him. You'd place the body of a person who is not dead in a tomb, so that he could breath. They placed medications, Aloes and Myrrh, in the tomb with the body. A dead man does not need medication.

I think that it is worse than that. Most people didn't die so soon after being hung from a cross. Pontius Pilot found it hard to believe the claim that Jesus was dead. Furthermore, the fact that Jesus bled when lanced with a scalple indicated that Jesus heart was still beating and that he had blood pressure. How many dead people do you know with a pulse?

mid to late 50s is most likely for Mark but yes the 60s is possible. And nobody denies that the New Testament was written after Jesus' death; such could be no other because only after the establishment of Christian communities could the disciples write about Jesus . So it is perfectly consistent with history for the NT to be written decades later, since the oral proclamation of the gospel was more important than the written accounts of the gospel in the first decades of the church.

the New Testament documents were written within the generation of the eye-witnesses themselves. The last book to be completed is the book of Revelation dated in around the 90's. The Gospel of Mark was written somewhere in the 50s, and the book of James is possibly even earlier than that. This is clearly within the generation of Jesus; his disciples, having seen the resurrected Jesus, preached the gospel orally before writing it down on ink and paper, so the NT is extremely relaible.

For example, when Esther 5:14 refers to the gallows, the Greek (i.e. Septuagint) text uses the exact same word (xylon). So a cross *IS* a xylon. This has been explained to you before.

As for whether one can "hang" a person on a cross, you need no look any further than Luke 23:33-39. One of the robbers who was crucified is also described as "hanged," and the exact same verb as which appears in Acts 10:39, appears in Luke 23:39. A crucified person hanged from a cross.

Dexty322: What person with any ability to feel pain would want to suffer the way Jesus did? He submitted himself to God's will and voluntarily submitted himself to save his people. He did not have to do it, but he did. His love for his people was so great that he was willing to go through with it. Remember, he said that he did it voluntarily and that he could have a lot of angels at his side at any moment to defend him if he was willing to back out of his mission and ask for help.

actually, silvercade, no person is capable of truly changing his heart on his own. Once he has trusted Jesus, who is God, as his savior, God then works the change of heart in that person. Once this happens, there is no eternal punishment, just discipline if the Christian sins.
